2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Can anyone explain to me why everyone thinks that someone will be forced to fake an injury? What does the Russian Federation gain by that strategy?

If they want Samodurova, Zagitova and Medvedeva, then why not say, "we want SSamodurova, Zagitova and Medvedeva," (or whoever)?

they do this in other russian sports
in rhyhtmic gymnastics at the 2012 Olympics they listed Merkulova and Kanaeva
and then replaced Merkulova with Dmitrieva few days before start of the competition, they cited "injury".

same in 2016 they had Soldatova as reserve but luckily neither Mamun or Kudryavsteva got replaced in start order of Olympics.

This has got to be so bad for all of the ladies involved. I won't be surprised if whoever winds up competing bombs. Way to go RusFed. :rolleye:

I don't understand what's going on.
So Konstantinova is listed to go to Worlds? I thought she was the one who went to WC last season and finished 19th or something?
She has the biggest, like, HUGE, potential to bomb and bomb magnificently imho.

i think its clear who should be the 3rd spot which is Liza. and i dont think anyone will be mad. She actually could have her 2nd euro title if not because that pneumonia

"Yes, let's send Konstantinova, our 5th best skater right now. What's that? We also did that last year and she bombed all the way to the 20th place. Doesn't matter!"

Perfect RusFed logic

yeah, but why do that?
why can't they just say "x, y, z are going. and these are the alternates..." and then, if someone really gets injured or something, that's what the alternates are for. :confused2:
why all this drama?

Politicking, sponsors... Maybe they even want to create more hype and drama (Besti tomorrow: Zagitova should be removed for Medvedeva. She jumped an extra cascade for her wr :dev2:)

I hope the skaters know the team at least.

If this is legit about some new 'test' what about Zhenya? Should she fly again from Canada before Japan or what nonsense? I'm sure she will do great with this 'preparation'

I agree. So, both Liza AND Zhenya are alternates and Stanislava is on the team? Sorry, but this is plain and utter bs. I know it’s probably not the real list they will send to Worlds but this uncertainty must be terrible for the lades. The way to go would be naming the team:

Sofia, Alina and Liza with 1st alternate Zhenya and 2nd alternate Stanislava

If someone is really injured, Zhenya can sub in.

Easy to solve. It‘s really not that hard. But this way it‘s unfair to all of them. To Zhenya and Liza because neither of them can go to Universiade and they won‘t even know whether they will be at Worlds and also for Stasya. She might be hopeful and continue to train only to find out that the team was changed anyway. This is really the worst way to solve this problem and of course rusfed had to choose this one.

Gorshkiv explained:

1. No time after the RusCup and till 25/2 to think properly about the roaster.
2. We just copy pasted the EC roaster.
3. ISU rules allow us to make some changes if necessary.
4. Consider the roaster weasel words...

Did you watch ever the old animation series "I'm a Weasel!"?
The protagonist looks much like Gorshkov himself.

As for the decision - if they are just following the results of nationals, then OK. That's one of the purposes of that competition after all. As we say in my country - you can argue, you can disagree but that's all you can do about it. That saying I would also bet that Zhenya or Liza would have better chance than Stasya, but she did well at nationals and saying something like "whatever your result at nationals is we will still choose by our predictions" would be worse scenarion in my opinion.

:coffee:
They real problem is that the 3rd Russian lady is already exhausted before Worlds, whoever it's going to be. I like Elizaveta best, but I hope RusFed doesn't make this decision based on sympathy or politics. And I hope that neither Alina or Sofia are injured ...

I just remembered that on march 10th we have the great celebration of the 50 years anniversary of Honored Coach Mishin

A great present from RusFed was already delivered: Lots of reporters attending to glimpse something :rolleye:

If Sofia or Liza fall in an exhibion expect big news

It's not just about Nationals, though. You have to constantly prove yourself.

"whatever your result at nationals is we will still choose by our predictions" - this is not true. Stanislava had her chance at Euros, like Sofia and Alina. She didn't manage to medal, so she had another chance at the Russian Cup Final to prove herself there. And she didn't use it. That's sad for her but she got these chances, it's not like she was totally overlooked. And besides that, it's not like she has a track record of being a consistent skater. I know many will say that we shouldn't take last year into consideration but given the fact that Russia barely kept their three spots, imo, we should and rusfed should as well. I really like Stanislava and I really wish she was more consistent because she has a lot of lovely qualities about her skating. But she just isn't and at this point, if she was chosen, it would be unfair. Even more so than choosing Evgenia because they had very similar seasons this year. Stanislava had better performances at RusNats, that's why she got to go to Euros. But she didn't bring it there and didn't use her second chance either.

In my opinion, it should still be Liza, Sofia and Alina with Zhenya and Stanislava as alternates.

Edit: What I said about last year does not count for Alina. Alina's performance at Worlds was the exception, not the rule. Whereas for Stasya, it's sadly different. So, no, Alina should not be kept off the Worlds team because she was "only" fifth last year and bombed.

I know this post might make it look like I dislike Stasya but I do not. I actually really like her skating, she has many qualities that I enjoy and she's a wonderful performer. She also seems like a very nice girl. She does not deserve any hate and I don't agree with how she's treated on this forum sometimes but at this point I just cannot agree to sending her to Worlds.

I also know that this likely isn't the final list. So, we'll just have to wait. I hope that at least the ladies have an idea of who's going.

Zhenya just posted on Instagram that if she will be chosen to go to WC, she will give her best..

That means nothing is certain

This is pretty absurd. They knew when the Russia Cup Final was, and they knew when the deadline was. They could easily have arranged to get everybody together in time to decide.
