2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I'm in the top three! I really have been spending too much time on goldenskate. :laugh2:

LOL, many of us are, there are so many threads I cannot keep myself updated on all of them ;-)

Alina is the Olympic champion and has many sponsors with a special focus on Japan and Japanese public. The RusFed earns money from endorsments too..No way they will leave her home, at least this season. She is also Eteri's skater, and the chair of the Council is close to Eteri.
Then there is Konstantinova who supposedly has some very strong connections in Russia that backs her.
Medvedeva also has sponsors and of course the reputation and some back from TAT.
Samodurova just won the Europeans and is very consistent.
Liza has the 3A, the only Russian lady that can compete now and answer to Rika's 3A.
So, yes, I suppose the decision is really difficult to take: between assuring the results, political pressure and sponsorships.

My bet: things will remain that way till the very few to Worlds and then one of the "main team" member will suddenly have to wd due to...don"t know...health issues maybe? And get to be replaced by a first alternate which very probable going to be Medvedeva.

I would say that at this point only Alina is a safe bet that she will be in the team (unless something unpredictible happens: like a real injury/illness etc).
I can totally see a scenario in which Mishin is made to choose betwen Sofya and Liza.
and Konstantinova kept in the team (if she does good at the Universiade).

Anybody here watched T*L about the Cup Final? Do they still trash Liza so bad or is it watchable? :scratch2:

I watched it. They were hard on her. They think that Zhenya should be sent instead because they feel that she's the more well-rounded skater. They also seemed to suggest that Liza ought to retire soon because she won't stand a chance against the uber juniors.

They have just posted our worst fears: it’s Stasya, Alina and Sofia.

However, the president of the federation said there might be changes...

well...... I'm not surprise ... it's Konstantinova ... even when she doesn't win ... she gets a spot ... so until the actually day ... we still gone discuss the russian team

No its just because they had to give a line up today but seems to not have reached an agreement so as to not go beyond the deadline for the names they did simply give the names as they where for euros, I think they will definitely change it. I think the council could not agree between liza or zhenya , and who to send so now they have more time to figure that out, otherwise they would have simply namedliza, cause she is better than stasya in my eyes

I respect you and your opinions, but that is simply not accurate. A part of his vision was opening up barriers and borders and inviting others in to experience different cultures but certainly not obliterating them and the differences that make us unique. Your next visit to the Games be sure to check out the Olympic Movement History structure that is normally close or inside the venues that host Track and Field and Hockey/FS events.

The IOC doesn't govern Yahoo sports, Sports.ru and other news outlets. Those outlets report the news. That has nothing to do or change the definition of Olympic Movement which is the same today as it was in 1896.

According to Olympic.org https://www.olympic.org/about-ioc-olympic-movement the charter states, in part; "The purpose of the modern Olympic Games is to promote peace and unity within the international community through the medium of sports. Olympicism founder, Pierre de Coubertin, saw the games as a way to bring political enemies together, inside and outside their own countries through education, commonality, and fair and equal play. To inspire and educate the leaders of tomorrow to understand that greatness is achieved when the world is One Union striving for excellence, while also celebrating and embracing their own national pride and respecting all their countryman no matter their differences."

I am not sure that this is the right venue for the discussion of Olympic principles and values. However, as you have named my opinions inaccurate I shall reiterate them just one more time.

Modern Olympics were created due to the efforts of Pierre de Coubertin. How it evolved since then, what was said and was done is a different story (like 1936 in Berlin). De Coubertin said: "The Olympic Games were created for the exhaltation of the individual athlete. They were created for the glorification of the individual champion".

In the very first games of 1896 there were no team events except for tennis doubles. However, those pairs were often international so that they were no country team events. In the second games they added footbal.

Yahoo and sports.ru were given as example. One should be very idealistic, to put it mildly, to believe that Olympics is not about politics. 1980 and 1984, anyone? The example of South and North Korea was pure politics. I would not go into details. I just remind about the organized group of North Korean fans of about 50 during the pairs event. They came only to support their pair and did it in a sort of an eery way. Then they left during the Zamboni break. They were not there for South Korean skaters. So much for "getting closer theories"...

...yes "obliterating the borders" may be too strong a phrase to rephrase the real words of Coubertin that Olympics were for individual athletes, not for countries and their medal counts.
