2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

What is the competition Kamila Valieva is doing and is it in Moscow? Did it start already?

Yes it is in Moscow, it is the Moscow Championships and qualification for Elder Age and Younger Age Nationals, which take place in early April and late March respectively. Kamila hasn't skated yet, but the young age girls have. Right now Veronika Zhilina is leading with 55+ points. Kamila and the rest of the elder age competitors will compete tomorrow at 17:30 Moscow Time.

A placeholder. She has to sit there and hold the spot, while others are berating...

That is the part where I think the federation is wrong. They are offering up Stanislava to be mocked and ridiculed by the fans, while masking their real intentions.

Honestly, I'm not sure which is more annoying, Russia Fed naming a faux team, or the posters who continuously ask "is the list final???!!!? Konstantinova, really?!!!??? Oh the Russian Drama" instead of going a page back and reading one of the other 100x it was asked and answered?

They have just posted our worst fears: it’s Stasya, Alina and Sofia.

However, the president of the federation said there might be changes...
Congrats girls. But I was hoping that Gubanova would beat out Stasya for the third spot. ;) But seriously folks the final team will be announced soon and it will be a great team.

The faux team. Its shameful. Whether its Liza or Zhenya it will be much better than last years worlds team.

I noticed something very interesting...

At the moment, Alina is #1 on the World Standings, and Evgenia is tied with Kaetlyn for #2. I did the math and saw that even if Liza or Sofia (or even Stanislava) were to win Worlds, they still wouldn’t have enough WS points to overtake Evgenia. In fact, aside from Alina, the only Russian who could beat Evgenia in WS is Maria, and that is only if Maria gets sent to Worlds AND places 5th or higher (I’m a fan of hers but this outcome is basically impossible).

The point is, if it’s true that RusFed chooses the top two on the WS to go to WTT, that means Evgenia is basically confirmed to be on the team for that competition. Shouldn’t that be a bigger incentive to put Liza on the Worlds team? So that both skaters can each have their respective opportunities to skate?

On a separate note, I still don’t understand why RusFed needs more time with their decisions. There are no more competitions planned as of now other than Universiade, in which both Liza and Evgenia are not going. And another skate-off will be too tiring. It should be pretty clear that taking more time to make their final decision is unnecessary and making things worse. And having someone fake an injury/illness to withdraw is just wrong (even if it happens often). :slink:

Actually, is the following scenario possible by the rules? W know Stasya is on the official list, while Liza and Zhenya on the alternative list that has effect only if one of main skaters get injured. So when Rusfed finally decides the final roster and announces that Stasya is injured, so that Liza/Zhenya can take her place, Stasya stands up and says: no my dear, I am perfectly fine! Stay away from me, I am competing! And threatens to sue her own federation. Can she do that?

World Standings is not big deal, just look where is Trusova in this list - 33rd position, and what skaters are placed higher just because they did compete more times and are already seniors. But I'm 100% sure Trusova is strongest at present and can smash anyone including this person https://memepedia.ru/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/чак-норрис-мемы.jpg

World Standings include the past 3 seasons, so movement up and down can take awhile. I believe Rika did her most recent competion so she would be able to get more points to improve her world standing and get into the last SP group at Worlds - but I think that still wouldn’t be possible if Kaetlyn, Wakaba, or Maria were competing there.

It seems that you didn’t read the whole post. The only reason I brought up WS at all was because people were saying the WTT spots were based directly off of it.

Go to a forum main page (the edge) and look for the number of replies a thread has. Click that number. It’s actually a link you can click ;)

I forgot to mention earlier that once you pull up the thread post tallies you can then click on any user’s post total number and see their post history in that specific thread

you confused me, I didn't get your intent when read that. The RusFed always chooses 2 tops for the national team from results of Nationals, and the 3rd is appointed by the decision of the Coaching Council. It's enough to refer to this rule I think. This season's problem is that the Coaching Council has not yet made its decision.

They are talking about WTT not Worlds.

The other question I have is this. Does the ISU care at all that the Russian Federation is making open mockery of the ISU rules about deadlines for selecting the teams? Someone should complain to ... Lakernik? ;)
