2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Agreed. If I want to see more than three of ANY country, I'll find a way to watch/stream that country's National competition. I have zero interest in watching more than three skaters from any country (USA included) compete at a World's Competition. I don't care if Russia or Japan has 6+ skaters who could land on a World Podium. Let them fight it out among each other, and then send the top three with the rest of the countries attending.

Agreed. In any sporting tournament there are usually brackets that are tougher than others to reach the championship. They usually try to even it out, but its just the way it is that sometimes two really good individuals or teams face off before the championship. The losing individual or team may have been better than others or just had a bad day, but they don't advance to the championship because they didn't make the cut when it counted and someone else goes on to compete.

Its funny to me that so many individuals commenting in this thread talk about how sport is about being tough, support cut throat and competitive training environments, and that you must accept this as part of sport. But then when it comes to Worlds is all about how unfair it is and we should make exceptions for certain countries. The rule is a max three spots per country and athletes must compete for those spots. Sports are competitive and the outcomes don't always feel fair, but you still have to play by the rules.

Can’t wait for JWC this year!!:cool2:

What was your favorite performance from one of the Russian Kids this year? Tarakanova’s FS at RusNats was probably mine but I’m looking for a few other programs to watch. Please advise ;)

Alena SP JrGPF & FS JrNats
Anna SP JrNats & FS Nats
Sasha SP JrGPF & FS JrNats
Ksenia Sinitsyna SP & FS Jr Nats
Alena Kanysheva SP & FS JrGPF

I think the best ones for each, aside Tarakanova's FS at Senior Nats, may be considered:
Kostornaia SP JGPF
Shcherbakova FS Senior Nats
Trusova FS Junior Nats
Kanysheva SP JGPF
Sinitsyna FS Junior Nats
Tarusina FS Cup of Russia Senior Final
Vasilieva FS Cup of Russia Senior Final

Between the youngers:
Valieva SP Cup of Russia Junior 1st Stage
Khromykh FS Cup of Russia Junior Final
Samodelkina FS Memorial Volkov

Ksenia Sinitsyna SP & FS Jr Nats

Sinitsyna FS Junior Nats

Real talk: I couldn’t remember her name but knew someone at Lil’ RusNats blew me away. I think it was her Thx ;)

Side note: Even though I thought the move to CSKA ended up with Gubanova getting programs out of her comfort zone she wound up delivering them and performing them beyond what I had expected. I still think she has the most dynamic skating skills and the most masterful of all Russian Ladies when it comes to one foot skating. The best StSeq’s this year in my opinion. :drama:

Gubanova's SP at the Cup of Russia Senior Final was really something, while at the beginning of the season the program looked mostly a mess.

It was an awesome movie. I loved it. And I remember when Ilia (or his character) was trying to pick some girls in the bar, they were turning him down, but as soon as he said "I'm Russian" they were all for him. As if "I'm Russian" were some magical chick spell.

YES! :luv17: and the bonus was Kulik perfect bottom in tight!

Instead of messing with how worlds currently works (which let’s be honest doing so would never please everyone), Id love to see a supercomp that would hold as much prestige where basically the top standing skaters are all invited (doesn’t matter which country). If anyone declines or withdraws then they simply continue to move down the list. We could see all our lovely Russian ladies compete against each other and it would keep everyone on form with the potential of getting a spot. I know this would never happen but one can dream hah! jgp Kaunas Sasha sp + fs so beautiful and dramatic

She was genious coach. She is a legend for sport. She is a very good TV commentator, knows how to compliment and support skater, knows how not to chat during performance too much, sometimes she gives very short and on-point comments when skater lands (or not) jumps, she is a very talented motivator as well. Just watch some of the Russian ice shows on TV - she all kinds of things and than some more. She is THE monarch of Russian figure skating. A gray cardinal, éminence grise of sort.

You forgot to mention: a masterful and one-of-a-kind choreographer

Well that's how it works on 99% of internet forums. If you let that bother you it's your problem. The thing that matters now is to know if the RusFed is "punishing" her for the move.

She was "punishing herself" throughout the whole season skating like a shadow of her former self. What does the RusFed have to do with it?

But that is what the Grand Prix series is already - If a country is strong enough, they can go up to 6 contestants from the same country in the finals. Perhaps what you are asking for is that the grand prix winner enjoys the same prestige as a World champion (instead of being seen as the less prestigious winner, despite its a more gruelling process to get to the GPF).

I am not talking about hate comments or anything. It's a bit hard to say but I don't care about hate comments in some blog or whatever apparently skating fans are always aggressive. I did never read stuff like that.

I don't think that "it's just the way they are" excuse works here. If you are afraid of physical abuse, you should not accept the verbal hatred, since that's how it starts.

Me toooooo I've been printing the schedule, seeing what sightseeing I can fit in between the practices and competitions, seeing what malls I have nearby to buy them plushies and I'm soooo excited!

For me definitely Kostornaya's FS at Junior RusNats! Second favourite would be her SP during JGP Linz, and third favourite is Anna's FS at Senior RusNats! And to think that I really didn't get the hype over Anna, but then she won me over with that FS

Alena's making my heart beat almost as fast as Zhenya does, and she's definitely my favourite junior. Thing is, in seniors I have a clear favourite, but when it comes to the 3A I'm always happy no matter the placement if all 3 deliver. I hope that there won't be too much upcoming politicking when they turn senior that will make me dislike some of them due to scoring or something.

I posted something similar. The top 12 SB, if anyone declines, keep going down the list. The competition to be in the summer. We need something. And the skaters can debut new programs or keep old programs. This competition would not affect world standings. I think this competition would sell out fast.

It is official, Medvedeva goes to worlds. Tuktamysheva is the first substitute.

Kovtun goes as well instead of Lazukin. Mishin's interpretation of "Dante's Inferno" must have a separate frozen field for the FFKR.

I hope karma exists. I hope that Medvedeva gets called on her flutz... maybe... at least once.

Yes, because it‘s totally her fault that she was named to the Worlds team and thus she deserves to do badly or have bad luck with the judging panel. Seriously. :palmf:

I have to be fair and admit that this was not what I expected. I‘m over the moon for Zhenya but it doesn‘t quite feel right that Liza isn‘t going. But to wish any girl to do badly or get low scores on purpose just because she isn‘t my favorite and might be unfairly there (in some people‘s eyes) is just disgusting. I didn‘t wish Stasya bad luck last year either and I didn‘t think she should go. And I wouldn‘t have wished her bad luck if she‘d gone this year... why just why. None of the girls is at fault. I‘m a fan of the Russian ladies. I want them all to do well and I‘ll root for everyone who‘s at Worlds.

Tbh, I can only see the drama coming now. I hope Zhenya turns off social media and prepares calmly. She really doesn‘t need these comments.
