From all the reports in Russia about Alina and what we have seen of Evgenia - them skating cleaning is unlikely. Still I can live without a Japanese sweep. But the Japanese ladies are just so strong artisitcally and technically. a sweep is possible with the home nation fans behind them.

Medvedeva’s PCS is way higher than Kaori’s. Kaori’s GOE is better on the jumps but overall Medvedeva should beat her if they’re both clean. Also, if you want to talk about hypothetical scoring, you can’t use Medvedeva’s seasons bests, knowing that she can score way higher if she’s clean.

When i say that they are tied it means that they have the same potential scoring, so 215-220. Medvedeva didn't come close to that all the season. So i don't know when i used Medvedeva's season bests.

I don't see how Medvedeva's PCS ARE way higher than Kaori's since it's 34-70 vs 33-68. Medvedeva got that pcs in the FS in a GP, with a free program with no obvious mistakes. So we can't say that it's because she bombed. Sure her pcs can rise, but so Kaori's.

Imo Medvedeva SHOULD not finish ahead of Kaori because Kaori is better than her in almost everything. Jumps, spins, SS, IN, CO, TR. Kaori's free skate is miles ahead of Medvedeva's.

Poor Marin. I know communication is tough for her at the moment since Raf said she pretty much doesn't understand him at all (she skates yolo at practice, apparently ) but I really hope something can be done on that end since it would be a shame if their partnership ended without any results. Not to mention I'd love to see her in more B-comps. I blame that terrible fall at Skate America for breaking her focus... and my heart! At least from her Instagram she seems to be having a blast in California. I wouldn't mind if she kept her programs from this year either, because neither seem like they got a chance to flourish imo (though she should have kept the original SP dress grr!). Oh well... ganba, Marin-chan!

I will say that I am rather shocked that after almost a year in the US, she is unable to communicate with her coach!!?
I realize that not everyone is a linguist, but isn't having a grasp of the language part of basic self preservation when living in another country? Full disclosure, I worked in the Japanese school system for two years and English education in Japan is abysmal at best, but she's IN California and English is everywhere--on TV, on the street... just find it shocking...

Well, judging from her Instagram and various tv clips I think picking up groceries and going bowling with friends in a foreign country is much easier to do than communicating with your coach with various skating lingo flying about lol. I think it is only Marin and her brother Taichi with her, highly doubt the Honda family brought a translator over. Also assume she is studying English (and taking school online?) but no doubt learning a new language is hard as nails. I just hope she and Raf can express themselves better to each other lol. Maybe take tips from Eunsoo?

I just had a look at the Tech panel. The tech specialist, V. Gusmeroli, is someone very pro Russian. She was in the tech panel at Sochi Olympics and also she is usually in the panels at Rostelecom. I expect that some of the Russian underrotations to be overlooked.

ISU should really get rid of all "pro-whomever" judges. Biased judging demeans the sport.

Not accurate, the FP with 70 in PCs from Medvedeva was a FP with 5 mistakes. 2 edge calls and one underrotation and 2 spin violations. Therefore she got for 70 in PCs, lower than her usual.

I said OBVIOUS mistakes. Her skate was visually clean. So i don't think those calls affected the way judges saw her SS, transitions, choreo, interpretation, performance.

Judges are not allowed to give 10s or 9s if the skaters has one or two mistakes. Underrotations, 2 edge calls, violations on spins etc. fall under these regulations. That is why e.g. Yuzuru Hanyu got low PCs at the beginning of the season at Autumn Classics as he messed up one of his spins and therefore could not get high PCs

Rika is on her game. She jumped so many amazing 3Axels today. Hope she rocks her SP tomorrow, as well as Satoko and Kaori. I think it is very likely that at least two spots on the podium will be filled by Japanese skaters, but we will see. Figure skating is often times so unpredictable. I think the only sure spot on the podium is Rika. I cannot imagine her not being on the podium.

Idk. I think it will be around 74 with a clean program. At this point I don't even know what other skaters will get in PCs as the judging has been so inconsistent each competition this season. I hope we don't have another 4CC situation where the PCs are suddenly so low for certain people e.g. Rika getting 70 for a clean FS.

Rika is on her game. She jumped so many amazing 3Axels today. Hope she rocks her SP tomorrow, as well as Satoko and Kaori. I think it is very likely that at least two spots on the podium will be filled by Japanese skaters, but we will see. Figure skating is often times so unpredictable. I think the only sure spot on the podium is Rika. I cannot imagine her not being on the podium.

Was this posted before or after her short? Seems odd to say that a person skating in the second to last group is the only lock for the podium.

I hope JSF can evaluate thoroughly and has a better plan to cultivate skaters.
