Nathan Chen

Congratulations to Nathan, well deserved Gold Medal! He is an amazing athlete and deserves
the title of "King Nathan"!

We’ve had quite the roller coast of a year haven’t we? When he announced Yale and video coaching, I think we were all taken aback. It’s a good thing his mom kept him super busy while he was young. All of his experiences had made him such a incredible person, not just an athlete! I wish I could send him mom flowers. She’s done an amazing job.

Chen: I’m so proud of the US for having two medalists now. This competition was awesome. It’s always great to compete in Japan and to compete in front of a sold-out crowd. It’s great for the sport

Hanyu: ... I have nothing but respect for these two skaters here

Zhou: This is the best result that I could possibly hope for. To share the podium with friggin Nathan Chen and Yuzuru Hanyu is absolutely incredible. To be able to compete and perform here in Japan is such an honor.

Chen: I really like to know what's going on. It helps me prepare mentally for what I need to do. Regardless of what happens, I need to do what I can. It's such a huge honor to be with Yuzuru in Japan. I was fully expecting him to bring the house down.

Chen: Fortunately, the Pooh bears were all on 1 side of the rink, so I was able to warm up. Hanyu had that huge reaction, and the audience cheered for me too, though a little less loudly. <laughs> It's an amazing feeling, and it's the reason I love skating so much.

Chen: 2022 is coming around the corner. But there’s still a lot of skating to do, but it’s a little immature (premature) to talk about what to expect there. I am still in it because I want to represent the US Team at the Olympics again. I don't even know what the plan is now.

Chen: If anyone is going to do a 4A, it's this guy (Hanyu). I'm just happy that I hit my 3As here and this season. I'm happy with what I did today. I would love to bring back the 4S - it was the plan this week but I didn't think it was the right move

Chen: There are a lot of things I can improve on. There's never going to be the perfect performance, but I would like to come as close to that as I can

 here and I cry very rarely.

Just so happy and proud of him:luv17:

I cried even before he finished. He was beyond words for me today. What a year he has.

And thanks everyone in this ff for all the encouraging words when I feel panicked.

I want to become stronger. I want to have consecutive strong results. I want to be like Nathan Chen. Someone said after the short program that this guy did not care about anything around him, he just performed and did his best.

From Nathan
I’ve been in this position before, of course Yuzu being Yuzu is definitely going to get the crowd up and on their feet. As soon as I stepped on the ice, I felt that energy already there. He (Hanyu) has been pushing the sport making the sport so enjoyable so competitive and that definitely made me so much better of a skater.
Skating after that, of course there was pressure but a huge honor. (On competing with Hanyu at the World Championships this time) Every competition is different. Every time we all compete. They might have an amazing skate or they might not so regardless of who is there, I’m glad I was able to put out two strong skates both here and last year and I hope to be able to compete against Yuzuru further in the future. It feels amazing to be able to put out a strong skate and like I said earlier, every time Yuzu skates, he does something amazing and incredible and it’s just a huge honor to be able to skate with him, skate after him, especially knowing that how he sets the bar. It’s great to be able to follow that.

Is this what you expected of him when he was a kid? A Yale student and 2 time world champion at the same time?

Nathan's star shines the brightest in the Chen family tonight! Seriously... he has siblings who work at NASA and the meditech industry, and they must be so proud of him

I LOVED how when Jason was in the K&C just before his scores were announced the NBC camera was on Nathan and then Nathan made motions to the camera guy to direct his camera back to Jason for HIS moment. So classy, respectful, and humble Nathan is of his team mates and co-competitors. And then his gracious and sweet comments during the men's press conference. What I like to see and what the world needs more of! :luv17::clap::yes2:

Huh, I wonder if the organizers planned for this. Corral all the Pooh Flingers [TM] to one side, so the next guy gets his equal opportunity warm up.

Supposedly only the people in the front row seats were supposed to be able to toss things onto the ice. But apparently many ignored the rules. LOL
