Shoma, we love you anyway. You will get over this and move onwards and up! I'm sad that he felt so down about himself, but as Dr. Hronop pointed out, something good often happens after a fall. Rest up and wow the crowd with Great Spirits during the gala!

We'll see him at WTT, I hope.

Yeah. I remember both of us at the airport were bummed for him in Boston. Just wanted to give him a big hug. Are you going to try for Montreal, Helen?

I remember vividly seeing his achingly sad face on your computer at the airport. YES, Montreal is definitely in my plans, I hope to see you there too!

He came out and gave it his best shot. Just not his day today. In spite of some of the jumps not being there, he did give us some gorgeous skating and left his heart and soul out there on the ice. He coped with a lot this season, and I know he has grown from these experiences and will come back even stronger. Shomita, it is a privilege to be your fan and a member of the DBC. :ghug: :points: :dbana:

I was so sad for Shoma today. I kind of had an uneasy feeling about him all week and today he could not fight like he has in the past. He needs to remember he is a world and olympic silver medallist and that didn't happen because he was weak. Today just wasn't his day. A good bit of rest (hmm, maybe lots of sleeping!!), and a bit of time off to rest his mind and body and I can see him returning well and strong. We need him!!

This was not Shoma´s day jumpwise. His own comments after the competition were heartbreaking and all I hope is that he recovers from the huge disappointment quickly. Whatever the result was he had all the right and credit to say that his goal is to win the World title. He is that good.

I wonder was it the pressure and the overwhelming attention towards Japanese skaters in their home ground that hit him. Can´t imagine what these young skaters go through there. Mentally this season has been different for him as he has been adjusting to compete feeling more pressure than before but next season he will be fine. He will find his way.

Shoma  :ghug: don´t worry about this competition. You have already achieved a lot in your career and delivered lots of joy for your fans. You are a dazzling skater and there are many competitions to come.

“I’m kuyashii, yes, but more than that, I just feel disappointed in myself. I have to keep telling myself that I don’t have the ability to compete amongst the top skaters and return with growth.” He said with tears in his eyes.

“I feel hopeless by how weak I am. This made me realize just how weak I am. It’s so embarrassing that this is the performance I give after saying ‘I will win.’”

Oh no. :sad21: I hope he'll get over it after the inital disappointment. He's had a great season despite some struggles and one bad competition doesn't diminish his previous success. I feel like he didn't only grew as a skater but also as a person and I hope this experience will make him even stronger. It's heartbreaking to see how hard he is on himself. "Weak" is not a word I would ever use when talking about him.

About the FS itself, to me it looked like he was in pain after he landed the solo 3A. :( Hope his injury didn't flame up again. Get some well-deserved rest, Shoma! :thank: for all of your exciting and touching performances this season!

Shoma, it's just the beginning. Setbacks cause athletes to reassess and get better. I believe in you! :ghug:
Your fans will support you no matter what. It's not the winning or medals they love, it's your skating!

Thank you Shoma for all the things you have done for Japanese men figure skating in the past recent years
I will always admire you for your commitment to save 3 spots for men during worlds last year

You are a true hero and I will cheer for you no matter what happens.:clap::clap:

Now please take some rest and heal!

Something struck me today after the initial strangeness of not seeing Shoma amongst those in the victory laps and post competition press conference: How spoilt and priviledged I am as a fan that he had consistently been on the podium for the past three years, that I have almost taken for granted that I would see him there at every competition. Sure, I lament about his daredevilry and sometimes wish he would withdraw (when he's injured) than bulldoze through in pain, but somehow he will find ways to get up there. He was there, always, that sometimes I forget what a difficult feat it is to get on the podium in the first place.

And that's the thing - the past 3 years, with more competitions that I can remember anyone else doing - every single time, he made it there with skills, talent, hard work, grit and determination. He had fought so hard and for so long, I feel so blessed and grateful that I am around to witness every single bit of it. And I know he still has more to share with the world. His disappointment and self deprecation made this occasion especially hard to swallow, that I wish I can tell him that more than medals and accolades, I am so proud and so priviledged to have seen him overcome physical and mental hurdles and use each experience to grow a little more into the fine young man that he is now. And I can't wait to see what he has in store for the future.

The person inside is Yoji Nakano, a fellow Japanese figure skater who's the same age as Shoma. Hahahahah he's in full teasing mode!
