Alright guys so this is going to be a very long post, so bear with me. And please keep reading. I think you guys will want to hear this. :)

This was the hardest season for Alina Zagitova both mentally and physically. Leading up to Worlds, she struggled competition after competition and was never able to show her best. She received a huge amount of criticism and hate from figure skating critics all over the world. She had the weight of the world on her shoulders, being the reigning Olympic Champion. The pressure she had going into each competition was enormous. But the critics were relentless, they kept on bringing her down and writing her off as done. Every time I saw a comment saying- “Alina is on a downward spiral,” “She’s not going to last,” “She should retire now as she’s still the Olympic champion”- I literally became so enraged. It seriously brought tears to my eyes. Because all along, through all of her upsets, I ALWAYS knew that Alina was just going through temporary hardships and would emerge stronger than ever on the other side. I argued with so many people in YouTube comments after Russian Nationals and Europeans, trying to make them understand that Alina was not done. It was very very frustrating because there was really no way to prove to them that the best of Alina this season was yet to come. But then it happened. Alina Zagitova became the World Champion. She silenced every critic and hater who had torn her apart this season.

The moment Alina finished her free skate, her reaction said it all. All of the difficulties, falls, tears, doubts had been worth it. She seriously went through so much this season. More than any 16 year old should ever have to endure. Watching her at every competition this season was an emotional rollercoaster. But in the end, ALINA ZAGITOVA BECAME WORLD CHAMPION! ONE YEAR AFTER BECOMING OLYMPIC CHAMPION! This is the definition of a GOAT. Seriously she will go down in history as one of the best. :love:

What makes it so much more special for me is that I knew she would deliver when it mattered most. I predicted her to finish in first place on the Golden Skate predictions game because I actually was confident she would finish first. I swear I have multiple notes in my phone from December and January, after GPF, RusNats and Euros, in which I stated that Alina Zagitova would be our 2019 World Champion. Leading up to Worlds, I was always blown away when almost every prediction video, blog post, YouTube vid had Alina finishing in maybe 5th or 6th place. I was like what the hell, you guys are so ignorant. And looks who’s laughing now.

I seriously could not have asked for a better Worlds week. I desperately wanted Alina to win this Worlds because I knew how badly she wanted it. I can only imagine how Alina and her team feels right now. Alina is only the 3rd ladies skater in history to win a figure skating Golden Grand Slam.

The pure determination she had this season, never once giving up, shows why she is the all deserving World Champion. Russian Nationals was so upsetting for her and was a skate I hoped I would never have to see again. But then Euros happened. She hit rock bottom. She had to hit the lowest of the low to find her motivation and strength to continue again. There is honestly no other skater I can name who would be able to pull out what Alina did. Through the hardest season of her life she found her way and finally became the World Champion. You can tell winning this title honestly meant so much more for Alina than the Olympics. She fought hard, fell many times, experienced the saddest defeats, and in the end emerged as a Champion!

I could go on and on but to close I just want to say- Alina, thank you so much for sharing your skating, beauty, and grace with the world. You are an absolute star and you are so deserving of everything you get. I am so proud of the person you became this past year. You never once let anything get to your head. You have got to be the most grounded figure skater to every grace the planet. I love you endlessly and am so happy to say that ALINA ZAGITOVA IS YOUR 2019 WORLD CHAMPION!!!! :luv17:

I was agreeing with everything you said coz it was literally me, until this part. A BIG NO, She just needed time off competitions to heal and train calmly, but she wasnt allowed to take a break after difficult GP's and other events. She gave everything in that GP final where she injured her leg, its also no fun flying russia-canada-russia, but next week, with a chemical burn on a leg she HAD TO fight effing quads at nationals to get her place on a team for Worlds, and that FS broke her confidence not her "motivation". Her jumps were getting worse and worse and based on that last European training session where she cried after almost falling face down of exhaustion..she wasnt lazy or "not motivated" she just couldnt fight her body even with training that hard, and so her URs kept leading to all those falls especially under pressure. Amount of tapes on her legs was disturbing ffs, have u seen any other skater looking like that and also trying to perfom 80+tech points program?
Anytime you wanna say Alina needed more of that kind motivation, just remember no matter how small or not important tournament was, how she was feeling, Alina had to skate both of her difficult programs (even 3 with ex which is basically SP) and ALL of them are top of women figure skating still. Has she ever given up on a program? i saw other skaters after their first or 2nd fall, it was a mess, bad spins, bad stepsqs, losing of speed and image, even Zhenya, even Kihira. Alina - never, i'm probably crazy but imo Nationals was her best carmen stepsq. Eteri didnt change a thing in her programs until Worlds, just think about it.

Alina had motivation from the get go, surviving 5th at worlds was really hard, Eteri had to work with Alina's mental state after that - Alina said it, and she was ready to fight puberty problems, but amount of the dirt in the media and added pressure was unbearable combined with her problems. Again, she lost her confidence, they wanted to WD worlds coz she had fear of competitions, even after beating her growing up problems, thats what Eteri was talking about, when she said in interview the plan was to just get on the ice.

National teams:

1. Team Russia: 1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze
2. Team US: 1 gold, 2 bronze
3-4. Team China / Team France: 1 gold each
5-6. Team Japan / Team Kazakhstan: 1 silver each



Coaches & clubs:

1. Eteri Team (Sambo-70 school): 1 gold, 1 silver (and landed quad in senior Ladies - historical achievement)
2. Haguenauer, Dubreuil, Lauzon, Pinard (Montreal team, Auvergne Danse sur Glace): 1 gold, 1 bronze
3-4. Raf Team (Lakewood ICE) / Hongbo Zhao, Bing Han, Jinlin Guan (Harbin team, Olympic Training center): 1 gold each
5-6. Mozer Team & Trankov (Moscow, Vorobyevi) / Team Brian Orser (TCC): 1 silver, 1 bronze each
7. Zhulin (Olympic club Moskvich): 1 silver
8. Gambill, Zakrajsek, Krall (SC of San Francisco): 1 bronze


So, Eteristan wins the club race and could place second as a national team if imaginary country "Eteristan" had existed. :dev2: Without Eteri Russia won't have 1 gold and would be on the 3rd place in the NT race behind US, China and France, but ahead of Japan and Kazakhstan. :D

I’m soo glad she didn’t withdraw! I bet they must be glad too. I hope this competition gives Alina even more confidence now, that she can pull off such comebacks

I love this post! It kind of feels a little bit like she won the Olympics all over again! I wanted her to have this World title so badly, but I started to doubt if she could do it. :( Not only did she do it, but she did it triumphantly!

This season was a rollercoaster from start to finish. I can still remember being so excited after Nebelhorn and then things just got more and more tense from there. I could not have gotten through it without all of you here in this thread. You made the good times so much more fun and the tough times not so bad.

To finish like this is almost unbelievable!

I am not a fan of TSL at all but they said one funny thing in the portion of their recap where they discussed Alina at Worlds. They did give her credit for actually winning and how difficult it must have been and then said something like Danny G. looks like he has aged 5 years this season. :rofl: Me too, Daniil!

No I 100% agree with you, I just used the wrong word. It was hard for me to express my feelings and thoughts into words :)
 
I don’t agree with Alena Leonova (a person who never won a single major title in her senior career) when she said this saison was unsuccessful for Alina before the worlds. Zhenia had an uncessful one.

Sure Alina struggled but still stand on the podium on the second place except for national where no senior stand up. You can’t always win a gold medal it doesn’t mean your saison was bad. Two gold and two silver even for an olympic champion, it’s not that bad. A lot of skaters give up after an olympic title but Alina stays, she deserves more than oh she lost her gpf,national and european title, she’s done etc..... people has forgotten she’s a champion and she proved it again.

It makes me mad that there is one set of standards for Alina and another set for everyone else. When other skaters struggle they need time. Alina needs to retire. When other skaters have a bad competition, it is what it is. When Alina has a bad competition she is finished. When any skater wins a medal it's a success. Alina wins two silvers and it is a tragic loss.

She won a medal in every competition she skated in this season other than RusNats. The only times she was beaten is when she beat herself by not skating clean.

Other skaters would probably kill to have her 'unsuccessful' season.

She triumphed over the pressure and also adjusted to a completely new body. I mean, look at her!

I am amazed by her and proud to be her fan.

I think her season was a lot more successful than if she had won everything.

She learned a lot about herself along the way.
She had struggles, disappointments, self-doubt.
But she fought through it all.
All of this should help her immensely going forward.

I think 99.99% of skaters would be over the moon to have a season like she had (4 Golds 2 Silvers AND one of those Golds at the WC)

She really is a fighter.

I am extremely proud to be a fan of this young lady.
 
You know, Alina and Eteri were just teasing us, for every great story needs a struggle, moments of disappointment and resignation before the grand twist comes to us and we can be relieved and happy with the final victory of our hero :devil: Damn, this really looks like a movie screenplay :laugh2:
