Nathan Chen

In the craziness and excitement of last week, and the intense focus on Yuzu vs. Nathan - one of my favorite friendships was overlooked: that between Nathan and Shoma.

Their collective smiles could light up any arena:luv17:

From FSU, translation from Russian broadcast:

Male commentator is Yagudin.

TAT: Bravo! And the audience gets up again, just jumps out, despite the fact that he is American, and not Japanese. It was just fantastic. It was fantastic. He had a huge margin in the short program ... Lesha here Yagudin cries and I can cry too, because these are guys, this is skating, this is the direction! This is a distance training, this is character. Rafik my God, I congratulate you.

Y: Rafael Arutyunyan, Nadezhda Kanaeva and of course he - Nathan Chen ... oh, how good that I finished skating, how good that we all finished skating. Now I remember the words of a journalist who asked me one question before the world: “Do Russians have a chance to take a place in the top three?”. Well, I don’t know a place in the top three, if you just ask the guys in the locker room to hold the medals. Oh...

TAT: You know nothing even to say. And what marks do they give him?

Y: Tatyana Anatolyevna, they give... if Yuzuru has 110 on his technique, he has 120 here!

TAT: He can’t be lower in technique, he has this high lutz and flip, Yuzuru has a loop...

Grishin (other commentator): The man put three combinations in the second part, he performed everything according to the max, Lz, F, T, A and combination with the quad in the second part.

TAT: Everything, everything! And like a guy so simple, in a T-shirt, as they say. The shirt has nerves drawn, which he holds in his fists. He studies at Yale University, trains remotely, cannot afford to rest for one day. Bravo!

Y: You know, in the cinema there are dramas, comedies, there are different genres, and there is a fantasy, this is a film that we have just watched - this is fantastic. 216 record after record! 323 points!

TAT: Oh, how lovely, how lovely is this men's single skating.

Well assuming he flies back after SOI he'll have about a week of school before he needs to head back to Japan. I wish he'd just phone it in and do two very watered down programs. Something like 1 quad in the SP and 2 in the FS. Only 4T.

Ryan Bradley’s commentary from last WTT - something like ‘I never thought I’d be saying this, but he watered down his program with just a 4F-3T and 4T’:p

Le Corsaire was the best there:luv17: So looking forward to a watered down Caravan!

Seems Nathan will be too busy to practice a lot, way less quads seems likely.

Wow is he busy during his second semester!
3 competitions: Nationals, Worlds, WTT

3 Stars on Ice Japan shows

5 US Stars on Ice shows

Along with the normal craziness of the end of the school year.

Will he be bringing back the white shirt with rolled-up sleeves and the vest? As much as I love Emperor Penguin Nathan, admittedly a bit of the choreo goes better with the vest and collar.

For all that are worried about Nathan's schedule coming up. Just because he was asked to be on the WTT team and is one of the first picks, doesn't mean he will go. He could decide to stay home and deal with school and other things, and let alternate Jason go.

I would not be surprised if many of the top picked US skaters do not show. There is a SOI show in Ft Myers FL on the 18th. They would not get back from Japan and WTT until at least 16th and there's no way they are going to do a show based on not even 2 days of choreography practice and much jet lag.

I have my 4/20 SOI tickets ready. Given his tight schedule I wonder if he will join any group number this year...

It's probably too much to hope for another ice dance this year - ha ... super excited to see Caravan and Next To Me (love this program so much already):luv17:

I bought tickets like the minute the pre-sale started - can't wait:luv17:
