2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Winning silver at Worlds - Tursynbaeva secured 3 spots for Kazakhstan, maybe someone from Russia can "make a move" for Worlds 2020?

Wonderful interview! Eteri is so sensible, open, charming.

When she began to talk about this kind noble American firefighter (who took care of her after the Oklahoma City bombing and sheltered her in his house and then helped find a job), I thought that this would be the beginning of a beautiful love story just like in the movies, but it turned out that he had a wife and two children  Hollywood, what have you done to me?

How in the h*ll can Kazakhstan have as many spots for worlds as Russia does? That is a gross Injustice and the system needs to be tweaked at the very least. if Kazakhstan getting a silver medal at worlds gets them three spots Russia getting gold and bronze at Worlds should get them at leasr four spots. I mean if you take kazakhstan's top 10 female skaters and Russia's top 10 female skaters Russia would have 9 of the 10 so it's ridiculous that they both have the same amount of spots for worlds 2020.

It's the rules, jesus christ don't pop a vein over it

South Korea often had more spots than it deserved, merely because of Yuna's excellence. That paved the way for some very good skaters competing today. While KAZ has little depth now, it serves as an opportunity for a few skaters to get a chance to earn a Worlds spot. They will not hold on to three unless the second and/or third skaters are strong.

Russian skaters have plenty of purely Russian competitions. Maybe you can lobby for "The great Russo-Japanese tournament" in the future.

Those are the rules.

There was time that Russia did not have many good skaters and nobody locked Russia out of the worlds to make way for American ladies that were good at the time.

Who knows? Maybe thanks to Tursy Kazachstan will develop figure skating scene that will make splash. Let them have their chance. If their other 2 ladies suck next year, they will lose these spots. NO country can get more than 3 spots anyways, so don't give yourself a stroke over it.

How am I fascinated by this woman!

"It was Eteri Tutberidze"
And Eteri makes this sweet sound :)
"Did you want to say something?"
"I would like to congratulate you on your birthday [he is 85 years old today] and say that it is a great honor for me to meet with the legend"

Pozner, of course, was pleased to hear that :) Even though he was shy - "oh, come on!", "No, you are legend!"

tbh, I liked Pozner today - it was without excessive liberalism, without attacks (almost) on the concept of patriotism, everything is very reasonable.

Please a kind russian speaker to give us some key points from what she said. Thanks

It is difficult for me to write large complex texts. I hope moriel will help - she is very fluent in both English and Russian.

There are rumors that Putin and the Präsident of Kazachstan made a deal so some Russian ladies can start for kazachstan

Agh, a lot to translate, here's a sum up:
1. She disagrees with her critics(about young girls jumping quads)
2. When figure skater gets a title, he demands for more special attitude
3. She said that medals and titles don't help in next competitions, if you became champion, next season you'll have to defend it once again
4. She talked about her life in America a lot.

It's almost an hour long :scratch2:

When Posner asked about how she feels about the US, she said she has warm feelings about the US, unlike in Russia she has many freinds there. When he asked her about the differences in mentality between Russian and American kids she said that American kids value their time more/value training time more.
But in her opinion Asian girls mentality goes well with her training methods most of all. When she asks LilBet to do smth, LiBet tries to do it without asking why, what for etc. There is no need to persuade her or her mom why it is necessary.
She also said that Asian girls genetics give them some advantages over Russian/European girls.

I translated nearly 5% of the interview. Got to go now )

By way of illustration, she said that some student who won titles began to demand that she be called not by her last name when she was mistaken, but by her first name (calling for last name sounds more severe to us in conflict situations). Or she demanded for herself a separate dance teacher to work in the dance hall, did not want to engage with everyone.

I feel drama

I feel like she was hinting at Evgenia there

Oh, boy.

I can already tell this Eteri interview is going to be a goldmine for drama. I mean, Eteri can't even breathe without someone reading too far into it so that was a given but still...

Well, seriously speaking, she cited examples without specifying. If it is honestly not even the fact that this one person was in all three examples (1. the requirement to call by name and not the last name, 2. the requirement of an unreasonable weekly rest, 3. the requirement of a personal dance teacher) Eteri has many athletes with medals - it could be three different people.
