Evgenia Medvedeva

Hello Zhenya's fans!!
I am quite impatient and I would like to ask you if you know by when the assignments to the Grand Prix Series and Challenge Cups will be announced? Do you have any estimation?

Unfortunately, I don't think they're announced until July.

For last season, the GP assignments came out at the end of June.

Assignments for challenger series events (not Challenge Cup - that's a senior B event in the Spring that is not part of the Challenger series) typically come out a few weeks before the event would take place.

In The Loop Podcast posted an interview with Brian! It was recorded shortly before Worlds and there isn't a lot about Zhenya, but he touches on her training process a bit (funny enough, it's incidentally kind of an answer, or maybe rather a good addition, to Eteri hinting at why Zhenya left in her yesterday's interview). There isn't really anything new, but it's a nice interview to listen to.

So what was the hint about why Zhenya left Eteri?

So what was the hint about why Zhenya left Eteri?

Oh yeah, sorry, I thought that got translated and everyone saw it anyway, so I didn't elaborate.

So, I'll try to sum it up objectively: At some point midway through the interview the host asked her if the reason why some of her big name students left her was her strict approach that they were previously talking about. She said that no, it was more that once some of her students had certain accomplishments and medals, they would start demanding special treatment, e.g. getting a different choreographer just for them or getting more time off to rest, not getting drilled like the others etc. And she would say no, in her opinion there was only one way to get more medals and that was to work the same way they worked before; that no matter how many medals you won, once you stepped off the podium, those medals mean nothing.

She doesn't say which of her skaters who left her made such (outlandish! :drama: ) demands like trying out a different choreographer, but let's be real, there are only two former skaters of hers that were accomplished enough to make any demands from such a position and one of them is Zhenya. And it fits well with previous information that she wanted to change things up and needed (physically, because of her injuries) a different approach to practices and that's where they clashed.

Agree... At the same time, I find myself constantly frustrated with people (threads in the edge, people in Rusfed, trolls online) invalidating Zhenya's departure. She was unhealthy there and wanted to leave. This should be a good enough reason for everyone (including Eteri!) to accept. I'm sure there's much more to it, but nothing else needs to be revealed to justify it... The information we know is more than enough already.

Agree with every word.

Can we like not discuss this again? We don't know the real reason, and saying "She was unhealthy there and wanted to leave" doesn't really make it true. I'm not denying it nor supporting it, but unless Zhenya herself says it, it's not right to sort of state is as a fact. I know she was talking about how her body was really fragile last season, but she herself hasn't pinned it on Eteri (though of course she must've played a role in it).

Also, about the student wanting to be called by her first name, wanting more rest and a different choreographer: in my opinion, it has Yulia written all over it. For example, there are at least a few documentaries of Eteri and Zhenya, and she always called her by her first name, aka "Zhenya".

I don't think if this was meant to be zhenya that she demanded it because she felt she was special or something like that, but yes naturally at some point you may want to try another choreographer or would like to skate to another music genre, and I find nothing wrong with that cause tis something new to learn and to add something to your knowledge is a great thing. And I also don't think she would demand more time off the ice just because she feels like it but because her body would at some point tell her enough is enough. Her body has already taken some serious hits with her stress fracture and her back injury. .. But from what we heard about Yulia it could also be meant for her, cause i heard in a documentary or video that Yulia and also her mother were not easy persons to deal with

I really like Brian's outlook on life in general. He has a really calm demeanor about him during that interview and that's nice. I think he's the right coach for Evgenia now.

Thank you!! I will! I love this gala program! Actually, this was the reason that i became such a big fan of her..it was in January 2018 during the gala exhibition of Europeans in Moscow! I felt immediately in love with her expressions and with the fire on her eyes!

I'm not speculating, though? She literally was unhealthy, there is no way around that. You do not have to point to a single person or that school alone to say they caused it, but she did, for some reason, become incredibly unhealthy there. And she also did want to leave. She wanted to go to Brian (she said this) and she did. Saying this does not mean "Eteri is evil, she broke Zhenya's bones and didn't let her eat!!!!!" That's nonsense. I'm just pointing to obvious, known things that have come from her. The point is that those are plenty valid and she really does not need to justify herself even further. Even if you'd like to not point to her being unhealthy as to why she left, her wanting to go to Brian is plenty good enough reason. It's her life and her career. No further justification is needed, that was the point of the post... The little that we know about why she left is valid. Sure there's more, but we do not need to know to know that the reason why she left is valid. It wasn't meant to be some speculative, anti-Eteri post.

Well.. she actually said that she was unhealthy on at least one interview: https://twitter.com/TheAnnaWatson/status/1109399028658331648/photo/4
And when she doesn't say explicitly that she left solely because of that, she heavily implies that now she is much healthier and in better shape than she was under Eteri. She doesn't blame anyone (although the watching the scales bit scares me) but it seems that health was one of the reasons why she left.

Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to discredit her reasons. Of course they were valid. No one makes such a big change for nothing.
