2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I just don’t understand this criticism of Sasha. People praise Alena to the high heavens (rightfully so) but TBH I can’t think of more than a couple distinctive moments in any of her programs that portray character. She moves to the music very well (maybe even one of the best at it) but I see absolutely no distinctive character from one program to the next...which is totally fine by the way. She’s a musical creature who you could literally switch the music and she could skate the same program to it without a hiccup. She’s that good yes but she doesn’t really have signature movements in her programs that when you see them (in practice) you would know what program it is from based on a charactistic movement.

Sasha on the other hand adds loads of character in her performances.

I’m not sure if you’ve seen 5th element or not but she does an amazing job of recreating Leeloo’s movements and bringing that character to figure skating. During big spender she has sass and spunk and even hams it up a bit. She’s very dynamic compared to many other top level skaters from around the globe. Sure she’s got room to improve but to suggest she doesn’t listen to the music or add character to her programs is just inaccurate IMO. I wouldn’t even say Sasha is deficient in her performance ability and TBH would likely never score Alena more than a point or two higher in PCS when both bring their best. I think that says a lot of good about both skaters actually!

Thanks Sam. I feel a lot a people criticize Sasha‘s 5th Element program or her lack of portrayal of the character without having seen the movie or at least knowing the storyline. I agree she does an excellent job portraying Leeloo, especially in the beginning. Also, while I still think that Big Spender was not an appropriate program, I can clearly see a totally different character and style there.

From my point of view, last year her spins were her biggest flaw (especially lack of speed) and she has tremendously improved in this area.

I am really curious about her GoT program, as I have not seen a single episode and don’t know the characters at all, so let’s see what impression I’ll get from watching her compared to the many GoT fans here. Maybe it will be the other way round this time 🙂

On a different note, I am bummed there was no hint at any other Sambo70 program yesterday 😒

Haha, I immediately thought of Sansa for Alena (a program starting from vulnerable girl to Queen in the North, her icy stares would work very well there) and Margaery for Anna. You know, looking all gentle and kind, and then bang, quads! (She does come from the "tell Cersei it was me" family, after all, and I bet she was in the know).

I'm eagerly waiting for Sasha's programs.

Someone has already thought up, under what music from the Game of Thrones could skate Alena Kostornaya:

As for the music choice, Tutberidze group in VK announced a contest of ideas for music for the older girls of their group:

There are already a huge number of proposals.
It seems that they have not chosen the music yet, if they are ready to consider proposals (fancies) of the fans.

P.S. A lot of figure skating music of the past two seasons (2017-18 and 2018-19) can be found here:

That was really well done! This music is perfect for her. It’s too bad polina already skated to it.

I do not see how Trusova portrays Leeloo's story in her program, asides the breaking out scene.... but can you really retell story "saving the world and learning to love while being adorably kitschy" in program where you need to cram in spins, quads, step sequences? You really can't. It is not bad program, it is good for junior.... better suited to her than Four Seasons and more appropriate than Big Spender (that is cringe and inappropriate and uncessary). So now she seems to be the movie geek girl and who knows maybe it will work for her. Even if she looks way younger than her age, she can portray kick A female characters. And better for youngish looking girl portraying kick A female than... a prostitute. But I take these programs more of as "inspired by" than retelling of the story. Because retelling the story in a free skate that has it's requirements seems to be impossibly hard, if not impossible.

You might have the chance to meet Eteri then. Your dream[emoji16][emoji23]

Etery Georgievna :) "Georgievna" it's patronymic from Georgiy (George). This means "Eteri, daughter of Georgiy". So, the next time you want to write her middle name, just remember the name Georgе and add to it "...vna" :)

A refresher.

Baby Liza Nugumanova and Petr Gumennik doing sbs 2A, and baby Sofia being impressed by that =)
cute!

if grandma has ***** she would be grandpa

what would have happened if Anna Tarusina didn't suffer in a car accident in 2016 ? http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1617/gpf1617/CAT006RS.HTM

"if" doesn't count

I would not say millions don't like it, to many love it all over the world

Yes I will thank you for that advice.

Off topic but I love patronymics and the fact that they are used for both males and females. I've always wondered what happens when someone has a non traditional name, how does that work?

Absolutely the same :) If we are talking about a man, then to the name of the father, whatever it was non traditional, is added (if the father’s name ends in a consonant or letter "o") "...ovich", in the case of a woman is added "...ovna". For example:

Napoleon Carlovich, Aragorn Arathornovich, Daenerys Aerysovna.

If the father’s name ends in a vowel (but not "o"), or "y", then adds "evich" or "evna". For example:

Cleopatra Ptolemeevna, Joffrey Jaimeevich.

Just in case - of course we in Russia don't call foreigners use patronymic, say "Ivanka Donaldovna" we can only jokingly:)
