Are they better, position wise?

Noted some different positioning of her arms from the SP to the Gala. She looked good to me, but she did before too. Yet better particularly in spiral. Anyhoo, still "airplane arms?"
 
I actually never noticed it untill it was mentioned on this forum. I honestly don't feel her arms are bad. They look okay to me. That is the least of her problems. Expression, Kimmie! Fake it if you have to.

:agree: ITA, liked before also.

Now after listening to Dick's comments about the beachball I see where that a "slight" improvement has been made. I do however feel Dick's skating - appropriate for the time - was TOO beach ball IMO. It almost looks like he was skating with his arms in a "hoop" as though during practice he was saying to the people rinkside, " see if you can throw a ball through my arms as I skate by.":laugh: I do love how he entered his jumps and posture was awesome IMO, just the ball holding look was / is a little odd and detracts attention from the blade work for me anyway.

Just curious ONLY if anyone commenting about the "Kimmie arms" has a new opinion now there has been a notable change in arm position. ???

I have commented on her needing to flash her smile more, she really has a wonderful smile. :biggrin:

I agree, EXCEPT FOR THE LAST PART!!! I strongly would advise her against "faking" any emotion. Just looks contrived and cheap, like bad acting. Only Oscar-winning actresses can pull it off convincingly and make it seem real.

So instead of Expression, I'd say Personality. Have fun out there and don't take it so seriously :rock:

I agree, Uncle Dick was showing his age. Back in the day, for some reason that rounded arm thing was considered high class and gentile. Sort of like pointing your pinky when you sip your tea. :laugh:

Nice, is that yours? Is it a park flyer. Those types of wings make for a hard RC to control at first. blaa blaa... sorry OT topic that I rather enjoy.

During her Gala spiral I notice a forward arm position I had not seen before from her. I liked it bunches.:clap: "like this :laugh: "sorta" :laugh: She had a good smile, looked real anyway, and her fingers were spread but not "jazz hands spread."

I think she holds that smile in once and a while, let it out. As far as faking it, for me I don't really like it that much, but I would score her higher if she did fake it because she was trying to add.

BTW, someone get that girl a car. One with a full roll cage and full airbag package. I like how she is real.

It's not just her arms ... it's that are movements are robot-like to me ... nothing flows to any degree. I see slight improvement from last year ... the problem for her is that last year she was landing her jumps, which is not the case now. I don't think she has had even one competition this season with two clean programs ... am I correct? And the 3A seems to have been abandoned. That's why she lost ... not because of her arms.
 
yes definately she needs more expression, she needs yeah definately to fake it if she needs to.

I think that's what made the difference for the bronze medal, Yu Na Kim has spectacular artistry and amazing technical ability, and Kimmie Meissner has exceptional technical ability and poor artistry.
 
What made the difference for the bronze was the short. And yes, Yu-na has the whole package. It's quite rare to get a skater like that...who can do the jumps AND emote. Usually it's one or the other. In Kimmie's case you have a solid technician (if not perfect/mechanical) who lacks a bit in the presentation department (but she's been getting better!), so in this case Kim wins. And even Kim's lackluster long was enough of a buffer...if Kimmie hadn't botched that first 3-3 attempt, assuming the rest of the program went exactly the same she'd be wearing the bronze medal.

She's a case of one of those skaters you wanna like, but just can't. She seems pretty likeable off the ice, if not a bit "bland" but, I sound like a broken record here, she needs to translate that likeability to her skating.
 
her arms being 'over extended' as Dick said annoyed me as well...

I didn't see much if any improvement... I don't think they need to be completely soft... but I dunno they have too much *Stretch* and it just looks weird to me lol

but if that's the only fault I can find, then I'll take it lol

For some reason she reminds me so much of Tim Goebel, no matter how many quads he did in any program his artistry just wasn't there.

to some extent I agree... but I have hope that she will continue to improve...
 
I don't see much improvement in her arms. I think the problem is not only airplane arms, but excessively stiff arms. Her arms look like if you pushed them down, they'd rebound and hit you in the face! In general, her arms are really awkward.

One suggestion I could make is that she should not wear bracelets or rings on her arms or fingers. This attracts attention to the issue more.

I think one of those is a watch. She has to make sure she does not go over time.
