2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

What about Anastasia Shabotova? Does she have a chance at the jgp?

I think she has about the same amount of a chance as Safanova. She will be invited to test skates, but will have to perform really well to get a shot, unlike some of the others, who might be given the benefit of the doubt.

Based on this website https://www.lausanne2020.sport/en/about/
It says the Youth Olympic Games are for athletes age 15-18, but they don’t have the exact DOB range so it’s hard to know who will or won’t be eligible. I would assume skaters like Tarakanova, Sinitsyna and Vasilieva would be eligible in addition to the 3A. Not sure about Kanysheva - depends on if being born in the year 2005 is enough. If one or 2 of the 3A have a strong fall season but don’t make the European team, I could see Rus Fed potentially sending them to virtually ensure gold. It seems like upcoming Juniors (ie Valieva) are too young to participate.

hmmm I doubt they would have one of the 3A go back to juniors after they presumably will have competed on the GP, Russia usually doesn't do that (they probably won't even have free programs that are the right length for juniors, etc although theoretically that could be changed). I do think Kanysheva will be eligible though; If my calculations are right, Polina was 14 turning 15 later that year when she won. So I think a team of Sinitsyna, Kanysheva, Tarakanova might be a possibility (obviously depends on the season but that seems like a dream team) - that would probably lock in gold well enough. Hey if only Kanysheva had stayed with Panova, we could have an all Panova team haha. Can't think of anyone other than Vasilieva who could also contend (other than those who will already be senior) but I'm probably forgetting someone.

I would actually put Safonova above Shabotova in terms of who deserves the JGP spot more. Safonova is more consistent, and has had better results. I personally prefer Shabotova, but the latter half of her 2018-18 season wasn’t very good. I think the chocolate dope scandal really got to her.

Chocolate dope scandal??????

Please explain.

I suppose the user refers to the episode where she said on instagram that all team Eteri skaters get doping, and you got to use doping to win.

to clarify, she went on to say something like "you just have to find the right dope. And the right dope is........ chocolate." But the articles/sites that reported on it didn't include this part of it, hence the momentary scandal.

The High Witch of the Crystal Dome welcomes all her court men/women/dogs and others (except Masaru and Alina Zagitova, who're going to join later) at the first coaching camp this season.

Beautiful picture! Everyone is so tanned; they look like they have tried to accumulate all the sun out there before going back to the ice. And they are waiting not only for Alina, but possibly for Shoma as well :-)

There are only 2 spots for the Youth Olympics. I believe the age range for singles is between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2005.

Oh right my bad. Well in a perfect world, all the girls would have an amazing season and they'd give the top three junior worlds and the 4th and 5th girls who are age eligible the youth olys. I think being JWorld champion is still a bit more prestigious than being Youth Olympic champion, maybe? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I feel quite bad for Victoria Shabotova. Is her career ruined because of that? Was the scandal like, front page news in Russia? Will the federation stop her from getting any jgp assignments?

I don't think she will have any problems. She continued to participate in competitions as normal after that incident. If it was happened when she was 20 years old let's say, by being part of the national team then maybe, but she is young and mistakes happen.
