After seeing her do latin, I am not as "jealous" of Rick O'casic as I was when they were hitched. LOL j/k

She is a very graceful lady. I did anticipate she would be able to get "down and dirty" - shocked she doesn't have that ability at all. Says something nice about her character as a person I 'spose. After all she wasn't an actor. You could see a lot of beautiful poses thought her dancing. Still has that "distinguished Model" appeal about her IMO.

She's still married to Ric Ocasek. Last night on Jimmy Kimmel she said they've been together for almost 23 years. She also was really charming in saying she doesn't think she got cut because she "sucked," but she just didn't have the fan base.

She has done quite a lot of acting, so I thought she'd be better at getting into character.

I kind of liked her dancing and was surprised she went first. I thought Shandi Finnessy was out the door, and obviously she was second to last. But I guess people either liked the skimpy costume or she has some fans from the Game Show Network.

Sure, they think they are......

I go dancing (classes as well as for real) 5-6 times a week, and lemme tellya, t'ain't so.....

One of the reasons why I started taking classes was that I was SURE thaere HAD TO be more ladies attracted to dance classes than men - everyone else thinks so, too.
Wrong.
What actually happens in reality is that a lot of other guys have the same idea, while many of the ladies live in the belief that they are natural born graceful dancing queens and need no stinkin' classes.
Besides, dance instruction can be quite costly, especially at a studio, and men still tend to have more money than women, generally speaking.
They are also generally more willing to spend it on trying to meet the opposite sex, women tend to spend most of theirs on just themselves......

The end result is that there are often more men than women in the dance classes, which leads to a lot of really goofy looking solo dancing, and if you think someone looks weird dancing hip-hop by themselves, try watching a guy do tango without a partner......:disapp:
Yet if on the (very) odd occasion there is an extra lady or two, they frequently leave upon discovering they have to dance by themselves, even if it's only for a few minutes.
Despite the cost of the class and the financial hit they take by not practicing, even if alone.

I often hear complaints from the ladies in the dance classes about most of the guys not knowing what they're doing, not knowing how to lead, and other, less savory issues.
All I can say to that is that it cuts both ways, a lot of the more 'experienced' ladies do not follow worth a crap, they're off doing their own thing, completely disregarding whatever the guy is trying to lead.
I'm a pretty strong leader, and sometimes end up having to armwrestle some of these ladies for the lead.
Some of them are just downright combative, and very abrasive if there's the timiest little thing they don't like about you or your dancing.
Some of my favorites are actually the younger ladies who have had little or no dancing experience, they very seldom have an attitude, have no bad habits, and tend to be easy to lead, even if they've never done anything like a rumba, tango, cha cha or whatever before.
Nothing like teaching a hip-hop chick how to two-step........

She was in a film called "Anna" which came out in 1987 (maybe that would have been a bit before your time ) with Sally Kirkland, who received an Oscar nomination for it. I've seen it; Porizkova was quite good in it as well. That is, however, I think about the only thing she's done that hasn't gone straight to DVD or video....

Just had a conversation with the neighbor - replacing her fence - and she reminded me of those movies too. I wonder why I forgot????

Anyway I will retract my comment and say that she does have actor status. After all, even Pairs Hilton might classify there too. Oh yah Brittany's Crossroads Heck even i have been on film - Mork n Mindy at Wheels roller rink

I'm disgusted with the results from last night.


I think Clyde is a clod. He is stiff and so lost dancing he looks like a kid who has been pushed on stage and doesn't know what to do.

Billy Ray is second only to Jerry Springer and he was baaad!

Those two guys are so bad I can't imagine why the audience would eliminate Paulina other than just plain popularity. Although I must admit I didn't have the slightest idea who Clyde is or what he did to make him famous. Wish I could have kept it that way.

I don't think Clyde is a clod. It is hard to dance ballroom when there's such a huge height disparity. At least, there's a sense of personality. I find a lot of the other teams to be somewhat bland and forgettable.

As for BRC, he should be voted off. He doesn't dance well and he doesn't even perform as well as Springer. At least, Jerry was willing to poke fun at himself and ya gotta admit that his Waltz was very nice and his Samba was hilarious. I think BRC will be around for a while just because of his fan base.

I think some of the ladies will have a harder time sticking around because they aren't outstanding in any way (as compared to the others) and don't have much of a fan base.

Sara Evans stuck around a lot longer than she should have last year because of her fan base.

1. The men have it harder. Leading is hard, hard HARD. You cannot just stand and pose, you are driving. Yes, it's also hard to be lead, but while I wouldn't go so far as to say that a pro can make anyone LOOK good (case in point: if Leeza can't mambo with Tony Dovolani, she can't mambo with ANYONE) a solid male dancer can lead just about anyone through something.

2. No one has done rhumba yet, Sean, fyi. The women have done Fox Trot and Mambo, the men have done Cha Cha and Quickstep.

3. Shandi should be gone. She's stiff as a board, has no rhythm, and no charisma, and her partner's oblivious to her half the time.

4. Clyde has a lot of potential (a favorite of many pros I know). He has flow and the potential for good footwork.

5. Apollo and Leila were the best. I am not seeing what everyone's seeing in Joey Fatone. He's all right, but he's not great and he's not light enough on his feet.

I know exactly what you mean by a good male lead. My cousin & I took about 1/2 dozen ballroom classes to prepare for his sister's wedding. At one point, he stopped and asked the instructor to do the step with me so he could see it being done. Well, Pieter took me in hand and just lead me into the movement. My cousin's reaction was "How'd you do that?"

I found the most important thing was posture and tension. The lady does have to have some tension in her limbs - especially in the arms and wrists - in order to feel the movements of her partner. Limp wrists result in collisions with your partner.

Most times my cousin & I stumbled when he hesitated. When you strike the perfect mesh with your dance partner, there really is a feeling of gliding around the dance floor with great ease. We actually managed to do this during our final lesson.

The early going is the tired old 'stick it to the model/homecoming queen/prettiest girl' , that's why both Paulina and Shandi ended up in the bottom and one had to go.
They weren't great, but they weren't the bottom two.
That dubious dishonor would belong to Billy Ray Cyrus - he's an oaf - and John Ratzenberger, who may have gotten a bum deal due to lack of practice time, or maybe isn't cut out for dancing.
I completely disagree with everybody on Laila Ali.
She looks and sounds like a guy in drag, has the grace of a tractor with a blown tire, and they need to put her in more, umh, flowing dresses that do not accentuate her chunky midsection quite so much.
Clyde Drexler is quite funny, I'm assuming they gave him the tallest lady they had, and she still has to take eight steps for every one of his.....
As a skater, I have to stick up for Apolo, he may not have been stellar, but did allright, they look like they're having a lot of fun, well, so would I if I had a partner like his....
Extremly impressed with Heather Mills, she did some stuff that would be a challenge for someone with all their natural limbs, and it wasn't just her partner's lead, either!
The N'Sync guy said he 'isn't comfortable' when they're hip-to-hip ???????????

I agree with (only) these comments but wonder why the derogatory comments about weight constantly have to be included in an otherwise good post on the others.

Pose a question here, if someone with the same build was standing net to Laila, would you say to them, "you are just a fat as she is." ???? Because you are basically saying that to all the ladies with the same build as her that post on this forum. Maybe you do run around calling people fat to their faces, I doubt it. Whether you are correct or anyone agrees with you, it is just plane rude to be "name calling" when there is no circumstance to be rude other than a matter of personal preference. Somethings are better kept to yourself when they could "hurt" someone intentionally or not. I mean "drag queen," are you practicing to be hated by many?

Thanks for the fyi JVC, I really don't know the dances unless I hear them named, I might have heard a comment like "...will you be ready for the rumba..." Anyhoo, sorry I might have fed wrong information. I love you forward attitude.

I will agree with Billy Ray Cyrus, thought the coment about Okie-Faokie two step was funny. By the way he can't sing either IMO.
And I did like Apollo but only saw his dancing on the re-caps.
As for Joey Fatone never heard of him until the show.

Calling a mambo a rhumba is roughly equivalent to calling a loop a salchow--and it took me years to tell those two jumps apart! (Still have issues with those two...) But then unless you've done some ballroom, it's hard to tell some of them apart. Though once you do it, it starts to make perfect sense.

Uh...Wolfgang: first, I dare you to call Leila Ali chunky to her face. Also, I question the judgement of any dancer who does not understand why she's placed as highly as she is. Or of one who considers Ohno's quickstep less than stellar. He and his partner looked like a solid pro-am pair and by that I mean the kind you'll find at competitions who've been practicing for a lot longer than five weeks. Fatone was so-so. Ratzenberger and Drexler both have potential.

Paulina may have fallen victim to lack of name recognition (I should have voted for her, dammit), and arguments could be made for Leeza and Billy Ray, but Shandi unquestionably belonged in the bottom two, especially after that mambo. ALL she has going for her is her pretty face. She is wooden, she has no connection to her partner, and she couldn't seem to handle Standard OR Latin.

JVC, I am so glad you don't let up on me - I bett you are a good friend to those who know you. The mix up is more the names as I am sure you are aware. They are quite different, most of them are. Good example too. I used to think of the Sal as the "squatty one" of the two and never knew the name until just before I started posting here. Anyhoo, glad you "let me have it" and stuck up for Leila!!!!! I like her and thinks she looks great dancing and not.
