Nathan Chen

Raf’s birthday - a hug for his favorite, and he walks past the cake with a still-lit candle, lol.
He may have walked by the cake to thank another person? At the end of the video, it sounds like he is patting someone else on the back (though you can’t see him).

But do we even know if he gets any financial support from Nike and not just clothes and shoes?

Like always, We couldn’t get exact contract contents. all of things are guess.who knows?:rofl:But it looks like Nathan and Nike’s sponsorship is special than other figure skater’s Nike sponsorship. If you want to get an answer about these financial things, you should talk with Yuki or Nathan:agree2:

Thanks sheetz for the SI article. The reductions in the contract seems really strict. I know Nike had lawsuit recently with another track and field athlete recently. Nike stopped paying her when she is pregnant. But the article didn’t give reduction specifics like this SI article does. I guess Nathan’s contract would be similar, but much less strict, and hence isn’t paid much as these track and field athletes, simply because Nike isn’t involved in any skating related gears and don’t sponsor figure skating events. Too bad the Bridgestone contract didn’t get renewed as it was still the title sponsor of SA last year.

Toyota has a long history of signing winter sports athletes. Their Toyota rosters include Chole Kim and other snowboarders. Chloe was sponsored ever since she was 16 year old, and she has Nike as well. Hopefully Yuki would work hard to work out a deal with some dealership of some brands for him. Nathan doesn’t even need 1 year, 9 months would be sufficient for next school year.

The Chinese fan account posted a video clip of Radionova commenting on Nathan

This Russian Nathan fan account posted translation of part of Nathan Russian interview in 2017

And this Japanese fan posted the translation of the most recent Kiss and Cry article

Thanks everyone for working so hard on posting videos, news and translations.

Elena Radionova being interviewed and asked about Nathan. Based on the Chinese subtitle she was asked between Nathan and Hanyu who her favorite is. She answered Nathan and said while Hanyu skates like he’s from the space and is different than everybody else, Nathan skates with a clear masculine style (I think?) and has a lot of charisma and intensity that he makes everyone want to stand up and cheer for him :)

It sounds like he would be getting a base salary plus bonuses (and possible reductions) from Nike.

He should be getting more sponsors heading towards 2022, possibly some of the same sponsors.

Nathan’s “masculine” skating/style is also appreciated by TAT:)

Awww, this made my day! :luv17:
Elena has been a favourite of mine when she was younger, so funny she was asked about Nathan and Yuzu and chose Nathan, and who can blame her... :p
(also, that answer came quick like a shot lol, she really didn't have to think about it... )

ETA:

I love the fact that he's clearly masculine, but not in an obvious macho way (for me Stojko would be an example of that), but more sleek, modern and cool with some swagger to it. And at the same time, he's also so good at beautiful lyrical perfomances, without being too 'twirly' (which I don't appreciate neither when women nor men do it)

Back to talking about Nathan......when do you all think he will get his free program? He seems to be running out of weeks to get programs together, plus training time with Raf.

By August 10, when will more than likely debut it at Sun Valley on Ice. ;)

I was hoping he'd get it done the moment he's back from DOI. :(

I wanted him to have as much time as possible to get comfortable with his new programs, because he will have so much less training time once the new semester starts, and that will be in large part spent on training jumps I assume.

It's really frustrating when almost all other skaters already have their new programs ready and are working on their new choreography and Nathan is once again late...

100%, He will get program before The Ice, and it is not that late to compare other skater. Skater who doesn’t attend CS has more time to work on their program.:).But I hope he will get his FS asap and also attend CS:agree2:

I hope he will do a CS too. It not only helps getting feedback from the judges but also keeping his world ranking.

Well, in any case, I just wanted to say, that I blame Nathan for making us obsess over his jacket, because he never gives us any info or teasers, not even a hint, about his new programs or music (or plans for them), so that we could obsess about THAT instead.

I think he needs some training time with Raf, for now.

Maybe he will get his choreography mid-July, so it might not be ready for The Ice. Guessing he will debut SP at The Ice, FS at Sun Valley.

Also looks like Sam Chouinard is no longer on IG, so probably no more (soundless) FS clips to be obsessing over:p

I don’t really mind that he’s gets his program late. He learns choreo really fast and judging from the past two seasons, his programs have always looked the best in the first two or so months after he got them choreographed. So if getting his fs later means he would retain the choreo and details through the fall competitions this season (for the part two season I thought he left his best performances either in summer shows or early season comps), I’m all for it :p

Ditto. What I love about Nathan's performances is that he does everything so naturally that nothing ever appears extravagant or affected. IMHO this is truly a fresh breeze among mens figure skaters :p

The Chinese fan account posted English translation of a Chinese interview with Shae-Lynn Bourne before the Olympics where she talked about Nathan:

Not sure if I've seen this baby Nathan photo before (second pic), but even if I have I certainly didn't know that it belonged to Raf :p
