I'm impressed with Alina's form in Japan:

I like how shiba inus always look like derps [emoji23]

I think Alina is in good form too, and it also seems like the body changes have slowed down which is for sure helpful. Obviously this season will be harder competitors-wise, but physically and mentally perhaps a bit less hard than last year.

So, I just watched this video where Alina, Alena, Anna and Alexandra were racing these 4 runners. All I can say is that Alena Kostornaya’s skating skills and the way she gains speed is sublime. IMO, She is the only one of the 4A that deserves 9s and 10s in SS. I wish that the judges would reward true SS and beautiful skating. But they don’t, so Kostornaya will probably be left off the world team this season. So very sad. I’m sure the rest of the 4A work extremely hard, and they aren’t bad at all, but Kostornaya just stands out to me.
Alenas skating skills are among the best I've ever seen for a ladies figure skater. Speed aint everything. I'm certainly hoping she shows off her brilliant skating skills in her debut season. But most importantly I hope her leg has healed and she can skate her routines at the 100% level.

They were packed last year, too, weren‘t they? Zhenya said it felt like a World Championships and she wasn‘t ready for that. I don‘t blame her, I doubt a lot of skaters are ready for that in September! I think that might be why we saw skaters do worse on their jumps than they did later in the GP series. For us, it‘s great because there will be a stream and it‘s exciting. But I‘m not sure what the skaters think about it. In the end, though, it‘s just showing the programs to the fed. That it‘s held in such a big arena with TV coverage just shows how insanely popular figure skating is in Russia.

Yeah, I agree. I remember last year the test skate for the SP was in a small venue, and a big one for the FS. While I'm excited that there's so much excitement around the Russian ladies, it will be a lot of pressure again this year. It must be a strange dynamic for them. Really, they're just supposed to be showing their programs to the fed, but now it's become a whole event on it's own. Ultimately, I'm happy because that makes it more exciting as a viewer, but I can imagine there are quite a few cons to doing it like this as well. Oh well, still excited!

Did we forget this birthday girl, even though she is too young still for her own fanfest?

Happy birthday, Sofiya :-)

Seems like she celebrated at Novogorsk preparation camp.

Sofiya is 12 now, so training will get more serious and intense in preparation for juniors.

Do we have any authoritative information about the actual average training schedules for the different age groups at top Russian rinks?
I.e. so many hours of stretching, OFP (general physical exercise), dance, general skating skills, learning new elements, elements-series-combination rehearsals, routine run throughs etc.?

Oh my. This Gubanova discussion makes me sad. I really feel for the girl. I hope she gets Challenger's and wins them, and maybe maybe if there are any WD's at GP she still might get a GP assignment? But I guess it's safe to say that this season is her most important yet, she really needs some great results.

Will Daria Panenkova compete again or is she coaching now? Do we have any infos on that?

Coaching at 17? I would think not. I hope Daria is healthy and ready to get back at it with whatever coach and club she can get back with. If the Nastyas G & T can keep getting coaches year after year why can't Dasha get another coach to take her on? It makes no sense why she still sitting on the sidelines unless she still injured. That would be awful.

Would Dasha be desperate enough to go to Buyanova? :(

I mean, even Buyanova looks like a better choice than Tsareva :/

Could someone remind me when junior test skates are again?

Here is the TV/livestream schedule: https://www.1tv.ru/sport/predsezonn...edi-yuniorov-2019-20/schedule?date=2019-08-01

August 5 and 6 is junior girls and boys in single skating. Since it starts at 10 am Moscow time, can we expect a long day of skating?

But according to this FFKKR web page, the juniors will skate in Novogorsk (Khimki): https://fsrussia.ru/novosti-federatsii/4438-kontrolnye-prokaty-yuniorskoj-sbornoj-komandy-19-20.html and http://www.ltk-cska.ru/news/1671-kontrolnyie-prokatyi-sbornyih-rossii-po-figurnomu-kataniyu.html

No doubt one of our resident Moscow posters will keep us informed.

Nice and interesting interview with Sergey Davydov and Aleksandra Kravtsova: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_iJNPZWL-E
about competing with #TeamTutberidzeForProgress for quads, the difference and similarities between training boys and girls,
and true and honest words of some skaters like Tarusina, Samodelkina etc.

0:10 - an unusual release of "Figurka"
2:39 - how many hours a day do coaches spend on ice
3:49 - why Davydov decided to separate all boys in a separate group
5:53 - Does Elena Buyanova help?
8:13 - Does CSKA allow parents to watch trainings?
10:26 - what's worse - a bad skater or a bad parent
12:23 - Is it right to poach an athlete from another school?
15:50 - psychology in figure skating
17:14 - quadruple jumps and the age qualification for the Russian Championship
20:59 - Maxim Belyavsky's quintuple with a fishing rod
22:11 - Tarusina, Samodelkina, Lazarev about quadruple jumps
24:01 - Are quadruples dangerous?
25:57 - Judges attitude and the authority of Tutberidze
27:29 - the most unpleasant aspect in the work of a coach
28:58 - Tarusina, Samodelkina, Lazarev and Ryzhuk talk about their coaches
31:53 - Why did CSKA trainers become stricter?

CSKA skaters in the Davydov group seem a happy and jolly bunch for sure. And so it should be: fun while learning, satisfaction while working, mutual respect.

The number and quality of quads is kept a secret ;-)

The most difficult aspect of being a trainer is dealing with the psychology of children and parents, LOL.

Tarusina and Samodelkina both are training quads, knowing you need to have one in order to be competitive. Tarusina is a little apprehensive of falling (since her 2016 injury?), Samodelkina grabbed to opportunity to learn a triple Axel and quad and is unafraid. It seems to me these two are the top skaters in their age groups. Hopefully Tarusina stays with Davydov, who raised her as a figure skater. Samodelkina is a powerpack, those arms!

Funny detail: the trainers are in thermopants and padded duffels, the kids in leggings, sweaters, some even with bare arms or shoulders: they work the hardest ;-)

who of the 3A do you think will have the most successful season?

Sasha :agree:

But I expect them all to do extremely well and I am most excited to watch Alena and see if she's making any upgrades to her skating this season!

who of the 3A do you think will have the most successful season?

I think it's impossible to tell now. Last season they have been replacing each other on the top of the podium, Alyona getting GPF, Anna RusNats, Sasha JCW and JRN.
They are all fighters and all are prepared to deliver their best, it will depend on a range of factors, but all girls go up to deliver and anything can happen.
If all go clean, then Sasha will take the first place without a doubt.
