2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I'm starting to think that is Gubanova's strategy. There are always withdrawals each season, so she's probably thinking let's do Senior B's/Challengers and hopefully a SGP will open up. If she does one JGP she's ineligible for a SGP spot later in the season. I'm just not sure staying junior will help her anyway. She needs to be seen as a senior skater. She skates like one.

Totally agree

Totally agree

The only problem with this strategy is because the Russian ladies are maxed out in spots she can only replace another Russian lady if they withdraw. If i.e. French skater or American skater withdraws, Gubanova will be skipped over since there are already 3 Russians at the event.

Liza posted a funny video with an interesting suggestion :)

I just see the Jumping Contest. Prize for best Qlutz. For best spin
For the hardest combo.

And a long-long list of traumas...

Right, I don't think that showing the most difficult jumps/combo in a show is a good idea. And it is hardly the opportunity to raise a lot of money. The comparison with basketball does not work for me. There they show some tricky shots that one hardly can see during the games. Why would it be interesting to come for the very same jumps one can see during the programs? We are not talking about 4A here.

What would be really interesting is to find a sponsor for a commercial "absolute championship" with all top world skaters both senior and junior competing with one another. Russian nationals are about 60% of such a tournament. But we would need the Japanese and some North Americans including Miss Liu to make it The event.

The biggest issue would be to make ISU recognize such an event. The second by importance would be to find necessary financing like an oligarch crazy about figure skating. Unfortunately, I don't know such a person. Hence, this my old dream (I started to contemplate it back in 2014) will remain just a dream.

I wasn't taking her idea seriously.
I just found the reactions to their jumps to be hilarious

True. And there is also the risk that Sotskova and/or Sakhanovich will get an additional spot ahead of Gubanova in case of a Russian wd.

Yeah exactly.

I think her best bet is to try and do some of the later challengers once the GP has already started. Competition will be slightly lower and she will have a better chance to win both events to maximize ISU ranking points. She will also get a higher SB with the choreo seq in senior vs. junior.

I agree with every word Liam. It all makes sense and it all adds up. Nastya would be so depressed skating against Juniors as artistic and mature a skater and she is. But if the Fed wants to punish her they may make her skate juniors. If they make her skate Juniors she has to have the right attitude though and make it work and impress the Federation so she still has a future. I just hope it's not another season stuck in the middle not a senior not a junior and have her talent be stifled.

In reality is it's up to Nastya G at this point. Nastya T too for that matter. T has such a likeable and bubbly personality. I hope she can put it all together this next season. The pressure is on and in reality it's now or never for both Nastyas.

Is Anastasia still a reserve on the up to date senior national team? If she is it may mean she won't skate Junior.

I’m just so mad they gave sakhanovich a spot over Nastya! Or even Konstantinova with that second spot she sadly doesn’t deserve

Oh come on now. All of these girls euqally deserved a gp spot. People need to keep in mind, just because you like a certain skater better, doesn't mean that they automatically deserve more. Konstantionva had a better seasons best than Nastya, so it makes complete sense that they would give her two spots instead of three girls one spot.
Is it fair that Sima got a spot over Nastya? Debatable. Would it have been fair the other way around? Also debatable.

Actually, she doesn't. Nastya has a higher SB, Stasya is just higher in the WS.

I know why they did it because she’s a favorite of the fed, but there was no reason to give Stasya 2 spots over Gubanova. If we’re being honest, neither has much chance to qualify for the GPF anyway so why not give another girl a spot. They’re both on the reserve team so it’s not even like 1 is on a different funding level vs the other. Seems fair to me.

It was an dubious decision. Especially after the fed put Anastasia on the national team as one of the two reserves But it is what it is and Nastya has to have the mentality to put all the disappointments behind her and be more consistent and show her beautiful musical skating this next season. If she doesn't...

It doesn’t make sense tho. It’s not because I don’t like her as much, why would you say that? Konstantinova is prone to flopping, it’s a fact. And sakhanovich didn’t even go to nationals! It’s probably just cause she’s put 4S videos which don’t count that much because they were all << fall. Ughhh, why can’t there be enough spots for Nastya to have one too

There is some political disturbance around Gubanova these days. Another newspaper has digged her Instagram Q&A session dated March 2018 where she said that she did not understand how Alina could have such a big progress during summer 2016. And Gubanova offered 2 versions: hard work or chemical substances. Today this "news" is discussed.

It was such a stupid thing to hint that Alina and her team could play a foul game. But why the journalists are taking this out now after so much time has passed?

I am so sorry for Nastya. She was my favorite junior. But something went south. And now she more and more looks like a toy in someone's wrong hands.

Digging an Instagram live session that was screen recorded by one of those rotten YT channels no doubt.

If Gubanova gets caught up in the doping scandals true or false, her fate is sealed.

No parents defending the reputation of their daughter?
Nobody from FFKKSPb defending their pupil?

Everybody leaving Gubanova to hang out and dry?
Because she’d better keep her mouth shut and should only answer any questions after getting proper council or at least guidance to defuse the situation ASAP.

Few years ago I read an article (trying to find out the source...) where discussed the usability of high chemistry in FS.
It may be used to quickly decrease your weight in a dangerous way and for short periods. But it cannot convert your triple jump to quad. Or make your spins faster. And not talking about choreography....

The usability of doping in FS is very limited. The punishment is the same.

Zagitova won in South Korea, not in Sochy. The WADA is not under KGB's control.
I'm highly doubtful she used illegals...

Yagudin recently remembered an issue long ago when he was sick, lost his quad and TAT gave him some unknown drug. She said "It's OK, I trust those people". He quickly recovered.
Later he asked for more of that drug and TAT said "What drug? Are you retarded? It was a Bayer's Aspirin".

He was sure she fed him something sub-legal and was very shamed by the placebo effect.

Yikes...
rough translation:
„I used to beat Alina easy-peasy („like 1-2“), and then she somehow suddenly got better over the summer although she remained under the same coach. Maybe she started working more, maybe it’s chemical substances“

Another quote from journalists is:
„I think Medvedeva deserved to win, because she has been winning before. It was Alina‘s first season, she was little, she was a kid. I think she did not deserve a gold medal yet. I have nothing against her, that’s just my opinion“
Strangely, this coincides with her last interview, how Alina just hopped and won, and she thinks athletes should skate 2-3 years in seniors first, before going to Olympics.

Oh, my. How did they dig this up. Who even thought of this...

The fun (ahem :handw:) part is that's a year old insta-stream. Nastya said all this... flapdoodle last spring. And gazeta.ru suddenly decided to dig this out just now. "Heeey, loook what Gubanova saaaid! Isn't it outrageous?" Yeah, nobody gave a flying banana about her accusing people of doping and evaluating someone's claim for OG when she was a Buyanova's pupil, It was just fine.

Probably those journalists were like „Watch this girl, she wasn‘t really careful in that interview, let’s see if we can dig up something more about her“.
Or are they trying to make Buyanova look better after the split?
Yeah, I’m quite surprised they did it.
Oh dear, someone needs to educate those kids, they become public personas way earlier than they’re ready for it.
