2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Wow the media will do anything for clicks. Even though it's a fact that she said what she said and it definitely wasn't right, it's a low blow from the media. Many more important things happening, like how junior test skates is just in 3 days, but nooo, of course it's better to talk about something bad that happened ages ago. Sucky journalists.

The news is old ... and if at the time nobody cared for the news ... why now?

We are talking about a girl that at the time had 15 years old ... please be gentle with her ...a girl who was really unlucky with her date of birthday ... because she would had be a senior at the same time that zagitova ... and would have skip the 3A ... she had a bad day JGP Austria .. and that's it ....after that the russian federation put her apart .... Konstantinova or Samodurova weren't better than her ... or even zagitova at junior circuit ....

Zagitova is a great skater and every skater that is with Eteri works hard ... and I'm not question her merit or medals because she deserves them.... but at some points she was lucky .... she born in a good month and year (she avoid the 3A at junior circuit and got the age for the olympic team), polina had a lesion ( and she become a nº 1 in juniors for Eteri's team), Zhenya had a lesion ( and she become her substitute) .... so I get gubanova

Gubanova could have been zagitova ... and the reverse ... the girl doesn't have a break ....

At junior circuit polina and gubanova impressed me ... zagitova didn't ...

No one is absolving Nastya so you were wrong. ;)

Well, I don‘t understand you either. Gubanova is 16 and she said stupid, petty things. Which doesn‘t make her evil and talking about sins, which you did, even if it was sarcastically, doesn‘t help the cause either. I don’t agree that her words should be downplayed because she is so young or had bad luck like Artemisa believes. She said what she said and somebody should teach her about right and wrong and about the right attitude to have in sports but please put the main blame on the media who picked this up now to create a scandal.

Gubanova should have her parents talk to her and explain seriously why her words and actions were wrong. She doesn‘t need people on the internet condemning her for that too, it‘s no use. I sincerely hope she can overcome her jealousy and see Alina as the great athlete she is, deserving of everything she‘s got, even if there was, to a certain degree, luck involved. Luck is always involved. You mostly don‘t win only by luck, though, there needs to be some serious work too. Yes, Alina and her used to be on the same level, she used to be able to beat her. But this doesn’t excuse her behavior. After all, Serafima is in much the same position with Zhenya and she never uttered a bad word about her, on the contrary, she was gracious and kind and showed great sportsmanship and friendship. I can understand jealousy to a certain degree but not what Gubanova has said. Again, these are suggestions about doping, not simple complains about bad luck and unfair judging.

However, being said, I still do not see why anybody should give this issue more attention than it needs to and condemn Gubanova in ways that aren‘t necessary. This is what these journalists want who found this now to harm Gubanova but mostly Alina. If Alina is keeping quiet about it, ignoring it and focusing on training, like she should and has done before, we shouldn‘t give it too much attention either and instead focus on what‘s ahead of us in Russian skating. Which are test skates. Imo, of course but a very persistent imo. :)

Anyone wants to make a bet how many quads we will see by the junior ladies at test skates?

Kamila? Kanysheva? Someone else, maybe, unexpectedly? Usacheva was seen working on a harness, what about her?

It's a weak attempt to change topic, I'm aware of that but it's an attempt at least. If anyone has something better to discuss to offer, please share.

Searching the web, I have not been able to find any confirmation Gubanova has been re-registered by FFKKSPb to SKASPb. School year and competition season has started, but perhaps administration is still lagging a bit behind?

She is supposed to compete here: http://cska.ru/objects/51, which is the SKA (Army Sports Club) main ice hockey and figure skating premises in Sankt Peterburg.

And her school is supposed to be Army Sport Club's SDYuSShOR, this one: http://fskating.spb.ru/catalog, click on "Отделение фигурного катания СДЮШОР по зимним видам спорта Спортивного Клуба Армии", since all the other listed schools have different affiliations? That SD-etc is only small, 35 students and 3 unnamed trainers.
So I suppose Gubanova is only belonging there for administrative purposes but actually should train elsewhere, like here https://figure-skate.ru/o-shkole/, where her trainer is listed: https://figure-skate.ru/figurnoe-katanie/odinochnoe-figurnoe-katanie/, the main figure skating school in Sankt Peterburg with 980 students listed under "Санкт-Петербургская СШОР по фигурному катанию на коньках" on that catalog page.

Confusing, isn't it? But like the other posters say, perhaps at Jnr Test Skates we will see Anastasiya making an appearance. If not then in some Sankt Peterburg local competition or test skate.

Wait another 3 days and we will all see. I'm all impatient.
I hope that there will be at least two.
what a horror - in Russian the word “impatient” has a double meaning. I hope everyone understands what I meant.

I'm impatient as well. :) But there are good chances we will see two. I'm not so sure about Kanysheva's quad because it seemed a bit wonky when she posted the video of it but then again, there's been lots of time for her to work on it, since then. Kamila, I'm almost sure, though, will debut a quad. Let's wait and see, you're right. I was just trying to find anything to talk about that isn't drama and scandals.

There is some political disturbance around Gubanova these days. Another newspaper has digged her Instagram Q&A session dated March 2018 where she said that she did not understand how Alina could have such a big progress during summer 2016. And Gubanova offered 2 versions: hard work or chemical substances. Today this "news" is discussed.

It was such a stupid thing to hint that Alina and her team could play a foul game. But why the journalists are taking this out now after so much time has passed?

I am so sorry for Nastya. She was my favorite junior. But something went south. And now she more and more looks like a toy in someone's wrong hands.

Just to note, her use of the word "himia" (chemistry), doesn't directly hint toward her accusing Zagitova of chemical substance abuse. The other association with the word - meaning a good relationship with her team (coach, etc.), is also present in the Russian language these days. Also, there is no context behind her words that would directly hint toward doping, she basically said "it could be chemistry". That's it! One can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she accused Zagitova.

Btw, here is this fine example of muckracking:

Maybe Tarakanova or Sinitsyna are ready to surprise? They are brave girls and they need to go all in bank to move forward.

Tarakanova has been training quads, like 4Lo before, hasn‘t she? But she also had to adjust to her new team, I would be very surprised if she‘d had the time to get a quad competition ready. As for Sinitsyna, no idea. Has she talked about anything like this before? Maybe a 3A?

So much dirt in the Russian media these days its insane. Between Urodina and now this muckracking... I wish it would stay out of GS, I'm not sure we should even post this stuff here.

That's a stretch though and you know it.
That word is often used in sport specifically as chemical substances, it's a common 'slang' word for that in sport.
Yes, chemistry as a word can be used in other meanings, say in acting there's a chemistry between a male and female lead, here however it sure isn't about chemistry between a coach and a student.

I'm not sayin Anastasia should be judged or something, and no one is going to put her on trial, so there's no need to try to excuse her words 'beyond reasonable doubt'.

Nastia doesn't need any excuses to be honest, she needs to start her life and career anew with her new team, apologize if needed, maybe talk to Alina personally and leave it all to rest.

Triple Axels are allowed in junior SP at Test Skates?

Would it be wise or unwise the show your full arsenal of new tricks this early in season? You can bet the whole world of figure skating will be watching the test skates with very keen eyes.

Last season, Sasha and Anna immediately showed their programs with a full set.

I'm pretty sure that will be the case this year too. Team Tutberitze never lags behind, you have to be at 120%, 100% of the time and that includes test skates too.

No, I don‘t think they‘re allowed. I had thought about the FS maybe.

It depends on who you are. Like, last year it was important for Shcherbakova to show her quad because it meant she would be considered for the JGP, even though having missed the last season almost entirely due to injury. It could be good for Tarakanova as well, if she manages to pull if off, of course, because there were lots of rumors about her and the frequent coaching changes might make her seem unreliable. Also, Sasha showed quads at test skates too last year. I think it‘s more of showing the federation what you can do this early in the season so that they take note of you and consider you as a potential candidate for spots on the team. It doesn‘t mean you can‘t change your layout or complicate it even further after test skates. So, I‘d say middle ground would be good. Show what you‘re capable of... but maybe not everything you can do. Idk.

Test skates are not scored so they can do it just to show what they're capable of (maybe some can try Alyssa Liu's layout with 3A combo). For example last year Anna Shcherbakova did 4 combos because she popped one of them.
