Marshalls on ABC

We just played back the tape from the Marshalls, which we attended live. I am so glad Melissa, Denis, and Johnny made the broadcast. Their free dance was my favorite of the season, and my favorite program of this show.

I am disappointed that ABC/ESPN didn't show Rena & John, Naomi & Themi, Mirai,
Alissa even once, even if a performance had flaws. :frown: They should have shown everyone at least once.

what was with the announer... she wasn't announcing any of the big titles... "2007 world team members" for Brooke and Ben? Were they afraid to hurt John and Rena's egos? they didn't seen to care for Johnny's with "2007 US bronze medalist)

I thought the intros were very weird lol

So did I. Didn't Peter introduce Kimmie as the 2006 World Champion. I thought that was odd. Why not introduce her as the current and reigning 2007 National Champion.

I totally missed it! Was fighting a migraine all day and when I did turn tv on, it was to watch the Phillies (who finally got another win), and then our rented DVD of "Boat Trip".

It's great that ABC showed both Johnny's numbers. The highlight for me was Johnny, Melissa & Dennis number. I loved it very much! I loved the music, too. Didn't care about the make up and the costume that much, though. Haven't figured out yet that the reason I loved it so much was because Johnny was in it, or because I loved this innovation. Maybe a little bit of both.

It's funny that ABC chose to show Johnny's old school kids, and him autographing , and the interview with his first grade teacher, but not to show some of other skaters' performances. Johnny is special even in the eyes of the net-work people now. I have no problem with that. But it might have made some people angry.

I loved Caroline's performance. She was so good! Somebody in another forum said that she will be competing at senior level at US Nationals in 2008. Is that true?

Loved Sasha's hair-do in the first number. Always loved to see Sasha performing.

To me, Johnny, Sasha, and Caroline are all I really cared about. So I am satisfied with the broadcast.

I have no problem with Tanith and Ben's hip-hop program. There are actually a lot of programs along this line in the pro-world. But I just don't want to see them in the competitions.

Evan really liked black, didn't he? I am wondering what color he will use for next season to represent his idea of masculinity. Certainly he can't use black again, no?! He is handsome, and tall, and masculine, and ... I don't know why I can't get into his performances.

Ryan chose a very fast music but he couldn't move that fast, therefore, it seemed that his movement on ice was even slower than it actually was. His jumps were wild.

the broadcast coverage was ok, but I would have liked less fluff (drop the Johnny school thing) and would have appreciated seeing Alyssa and even Emily's 2nd number. Glad they showed both of Kimmie's though, and Cohen's new "Hurt" program.

Usually, Johnny isn't my cup of tea, but the trio nummber with G&P was so creative. Denis choreographed most of it. I think he will be the new go to guy for choreo, once they retire. wow

sasha's "hurt" number was gorgeous, too. Still jealous of her hair LOL

Argh..I can't believe I forgot it was on today. Would someone please post the youtube link for the trio program if it is available?

The trio number was the highlight of the TV airing - what really stood out for me was the synchronization of arm movements of all three! I've seen pairs work years to get that same timing! For a moment I even thought Johnny should consider dance or pairs......:)

What was lacking was the jumps. I don't think anyone did more than 2 but I could be wrong. I did not like the hip-hop number at all.

Glad this whoo-hum season is over.

IIRC I think Lysacek did several jumps in his second number, including a triple Axel/double toe.

I like Emily Hughes, but I'm going to have to agree with the 'trolls' (??) about her legs. Maybe it was the costume/color?

Don't like hip-hop, but Tanith & Ben did a pretty good job, I don't see why it couldn't be in a 'real' program, some of those existentialist angst ballets some of the French, Russians and Ukrainians do are no less weird.....

Sasha is most definitely a performer rather than a competitior, she really threw herself into those numbers, and for once actually looked like she was having fun!

Most amazing aspect of the Showcase: Evan Lysacek fits into Johnny Weir's pants???!!!???

Best thing about the end of the FS season: No more Dick Button.

ITA I think they got it about right in terms of who they showed. I would have liked to have seen the 2nd skate by Melissa and Denis but, I know Tanith and Ben are ranked higher (why I don't get?) so I understand. But, as long as they showed me both skates by Johnny and Sasha I'm happy.

For a moment I even thought Johnny should consider dance or pairs
He skated pairs briefly when he was little.

Best thing about the end of the FS season: No more Dick Button.

I second that. Dick and Peggy are two annoying antiques. They just repeat the same thing over and over. There's nothing, absolutely nothing you can learn from their comments. I'm so glad ESPN will retire them for good.

I was thinking the same thing - their unison was great - really innovative and interesting preformance, I really loved it a lot. Also props to ABC for showing it and very nice filming of it too - I can't wait to see it again.

Overall, a fairly nice and fun end to the season for US fans at least. Somehow, and I really don't know how, I missed Tanith and Ben's hip hop piece.

I know she is still very young and all that, but after Sasha and Weir trio, Caroline really stole the whole show for me. She just has such presence. And yes, her flexibility is amazing - but also just so controlled.

Sasha's spiral is untouchable!

Evan is SUPERB! Man, this boy can dance! GREAT quality technical elements, and he's getting HOTTER than ever!

Tanith, honey, wear more clothes, it's cold out there!

Can't stop giggling when I saw ending of Brook and Ben's #, isn't that Iron Lutos!!!

Caroline totally reminds me of mini-Kwan ;)

Johnny should compete in ice dancing, no matter which federation he's going to represent

The kids are adorable in that essay competition fluff, BUT, can't ABC show some real skating stuff instead?

And Kimmie is such a great role model on and off ice.

Still don't understand why so many people hates Emily, she's a nice young lady, and really smart!

The lighting on some of the performances was so dark! During Evan's first number, he couldn't hardly be seen (dark lighting, dark clothes, dark hair...)

I did very much like his INXS program.

I thought Sasha was wonderful.

Her skating was fine, but the music for Kimmie's numbers (especially the last one,) were zzzzz....

Please, could "You Raise Me Up" be banned forever. I'm soooooooooo sick of it, lol!

I loved the music for Johnny's first number, but his costume reminded me of a blue mummy.
