Marshalls on ABC

You know, it's funny...this may be controversial to say on a board like this...but seriously, if Evan really wanted to be seen as masculine...he wouldn't be figure skating in the first place...right?

That is an interesting comment.

A lot of these are just coming across as "over exaggerative" and not really noting this is Evan's decision for himself and what he feels is a good move for him in FS. One thing is for sure, Evan is evolved on a level most are not and sees something for himself. Not attempting changes are stagnate, so the very fact he is trying is more than just crying about FS not having the fan base or "non-stereotyping," and people not connecting with FSers as much as they did, but then do the same thing expecting different results? I really don't understand how the idea that the majority populous are the ones who are going to change their view on "spangly outfits," it is not going to occur that way (just one example). Evan is taking a realistic approach IMO on what can be done to give him the "impression" he wants to TRY for. What else is he going to do? Others are still going to do what they do.

No. In a better world, you are who you are, you skate because you like to skate. No chest-thumping required.

Ideally that's the way it should be. But unfortunately, this is NOT a "better world", and there IS the notion (at least in the US) that men who FS are mostly gay. (doesn't help the case, though, that it's probably true  )

But really, I don't have a thought on this topic one way or another, because I could care less about men's skating in the first place...

wow, looks like they've already got it all up!

one thing- so glad I recorded it. I don't think I could put up with YT's quality to watch this. One thing I wish I had gotten though was the trio number...I didn't get to watch it with sound.

the comments are freakin' hilarious, though...when she and MK were around people were largely ignoring her...now that she's gone it's like COME BACK! never good to take something for granted.

"Requirement" is mixing with "personal expression" here IMO. Evan is being Evan. That is what he wants, that is what he attempts to do. Evan is doing exactly that in which is referred to as "you are who you are." Johnny Could be found guilty of changing for something other than being yourself, but not Evan. This is what he wants to do. How do you be more true to yourself than that?

I enjoyed a whole broadcast, for once. Even the annoyances were good free entertainment. My favorites were the trio and Evan's INXS program.

Who did Peggy Fleming's lip liner? EEEEEK!

Stupidest question ever: Why did you forget your pants? (Note to Evan: The correct response is "Same reason you forgot your brain, Peter." Or maybe "I was going to skate without them, but the USFSA decided it wouldn't be necessary."

I guess Dick wants to sound cool ... but INXS is not hip hop.

Susan

you're right, she'd make a very good pro skater. But remember, she's cut out to be an actress :p

Is it Evan being Evan, or is it Evan constantly talking about being Evan?

I think it's great how manly and macho Evan is (more to the point, so does Tanith :) ) What I am not so enamored with is the fact that he -- and USFS spokespeople --has to tell us about it at every opportunity.

"Awkward" indeed is all I can say about an ABC fluff bit whose premise is, "I know, let's make Peggy Fleming give Evan Lysacek an award for 'manly fashion' -- that'll bring in the NASCAR crowd!"

:agree: Good point about always bring it up, but my friends feel the same way about me and FS. I guess it is just on my mind.

If Evan is "searching" for himself maybe...? Don't know, but it is apparent that he is doing that in which he wants, is all I am trying to say about him. Some guys buy big trucks, etc....;)

But I dunno, I wouldn't say Cohen is THAT far ahead of some of the others. But she certainly flows a lot better (watching Kimmie afterwards, the difference really stood out). For example, I enjoyed her "Hurt" performance a lot, I thought it was the best program of the broadcast. That said, I think a lot of it comes from my liking of the song itself (I think of MK doing Alicia Keys, Kimmie doing "Keep Holding On"). But I thought her GBA program was just, yawn, same old same old yada yada, soft ballad stuff. (read: Booooooring) I liked it when she actually stepped outside the box and did something like Parade.

( <---- not easy to please :p )

A nice thing about Cohen followed by a nice thing about Christina Aguilera's song. :p

...that is, the song.

surprising folks zero in on my comments on Cohen's program but not anyone else's  particularly Kimmie's or B/A...that tells me a lot right there...

Was no one else impressed with Evan's footwork in his first program? I thought this was the best footwork I have seen all year.

One of the most annoying things Dick has ever said:

"That's a really difficult move, that back shoot the duck."

I have seen pre-juvs doing a back shoot the duck into a double lutz/double loop combo. Most prelims can do a good backward shoot the duck.

Didn't Johnny do anything else that impressed Dick!?
