2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I don't think it was technical or physical problem. Kamila admitted herself, she's always very nervous before the start. You could see in her eyes, she was intimidated.

Not quite a natural competitor like Alysa/Evgenia/Alina/3A - more of an artistic, fragile type.

It’s only been one SP.

Yes although she still has a quad toe, which is an extremely hard element especially for a girl.

We'll see if she does it regardless of what happened today or if they ease the program this time to make sure she skates clean.

I don't think they will change the program mid-way through the competition. This would be very risky. And even if she falls on her 4T and does the rest relatively clean, she's still got a very good chance for gold/silver.

I don't think that will happen. There is a risk of not making JGPF. It is do-or-die at her level, and Kamila is perfectly capable of 'doing' and not prepared at all to go for 'dying' in the figurative sense.

Well, realistically speaking, Kamila will at worst win Silver here. Look at the mistakes she made, her scores and compare it to the skater above her who did everything perfectly. So, she should be able to bounce back tomorrow and I think she will. No need to talk about not making JGPF or stuff like that. It's just the SP. And again, she was visibly nervous at test skates as well in the SP and then nailed the FS.

Edit: Oops, guess I have to wait until the competition is over to post about detailed scores and such

I think Eteri needs to assert herself at her coaching school. It's like Eteri is an acting coach and her student went out there and forgot her lines. Unacceptable. Kamila should be put in the 8-10 y/o group until her next competition. Nerves? Oh, please. Champions don't have nerves, and if they do they turn it into competitive grit. Eteri is losing her touch and winning edge.

By the way, I really loved Maya at the test skates and here again. I think it's her long limbs that do it for me... granted, the skate wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it a lot.

I just realized that Kamila indeed reminds me of Lipnitskaya - very flexible, fast spinner, not many facial expressions, but manages to convey emotions.

Maiia has a nice chance to win. Let's see how it goes tomorrow. Free skates reflect more of skaters' nerves and ability IMO.

After a hard day, there's nothing like a good joke :agree:

Well this is a rude comment if I’ve ever seen one. Cut her some slack, she’s a child and she is advanced way beyond her years!

Why are people acting like this will define the demise of her entire career? One fall at her first JGP is hardly incredibly shocking. It seems people are just wanting to drag down any Eteri student at the first possible chance.

Just ignore it or make fun of it, there's no other proper reaction to such comments.

The off-ice work with Zheleznyakov is finally showing. Her arm movements are softer as well.

One girl has one bad skate (and she’s still in position to win) in a competition with another skate to decide and this is what we are coming to...

I've seen a lot of things on this forum but this.....is definitely beating everything. Way to go about a 13 year old kid

I remember people having the same reaction after Alena Kostornaya popped her Axel in Ostrava last year, where she was also quite emotional and slightly sick and look what happened afterwards. She won Ostrava, she won the JGPF :) no need to make a fuss about one mistake

I genuinely cannot tell if this is sarcasm. :scratch3:

Anyway, Kamila was clearly a bit nervous (she was rushing through her music especially at the beginning but she eased into it) but it's her first international competition as a junior. The junior circuit is the time to work through those nerves and learn how to compete. The sky isn't falling. The jumps that she did land were gorgeous though.

Nice skate from Maya. Shame about the hand down but otherwise solid. I like that she takes her time with each element and lets them breathe.

I don't understand all these reactions. Kamila has only skated a short program, not even an entire international competition. How can you judge her abilities or her psychological state so quickly ?
The worst is that some of these people accuse Eteri Tutberidze of putting too much pressure on the shoulders of her students :palmf:
