2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Alina and Zhenya skating back to back means nothing

People who want to compare them and start fanwars will do so regardless. All of these girls are very good and skating before/after anyone will certainly bring a lot of pressure

Test skates themselves will be pressure already. It‘s like a mini-Russian nationals with a big audience and now TV coverage too. And the season‘s not even begun. I doubt anyone is 110% ready for that. So, no matter when Zhenya and Alina skate, it will be tough anyway. And not only for them but the others as well. I think we should just enjoy seeing the programs for the first time but not be all too hard on the criticism, they have time to improve and they get feedback from the federation after all.

It's always been very intense psychologically event anyway, so I think they could avoid direct duel and comparison.
It will be great for the viewers of course.

I do wonder why Sotskova, Sakhanovich and Gubanova weren‘t invited, though. I know it‘s about the National Team but didn‘t they have more girls last year too? And it would have made more sense to invite all skaters who got international assignments at least, to see if they‘re ready. Imo, of course. But it‘s not like adding Sima and Masha would have made such a difference, there would have been 5 skaters in each warm-up then, instead of four.

Despite the mistakes, I think Daria and Maiia did a wonderful job! I love both of their Axels, so light and effortless. Wishing Daria the best for her next JGP, I hope she makes it to the final, she is my favorite from this year's Russian juniors.

You can't really blame the judging here when both the russians were shaky and i'd say Daria even got lucky ending in 2nd, the japanese girl was better in the free.

It sucks cause these girls could have been 1st and 2nd with clean programs, they are better than the other two, but if you don't deliver, results won't come.

Also this is a trend started from test skates where the russian girls looked a little less preparred for the season compared to the past, and we saw it clearly in this first three JGP events. Just throwing it out there, things are starting to look less rosey.

Much like the junior test skates, it's all about the PR, showing only the famous skaters from the top clubs, doing those documentaries or little clips from Perviy Kanal only for Eteri's skaters,... when it should be the opposite: you should guarantee parity between all the skaters who will compete in the GP circuit.

Rusfed has nothing to do with what Channel 1 wants to film. Similarly, Channel 1 has nothing to do with Rusfed not inviting those three.
Channel 1 is a media and follows whatever's the most popular and buzzy.
Rusfed has its own purposes and goals, this event was private and closed for a long time for the sole purpose of helping skaters with feedback.
It isn't meant to be a show, and even if it was, more girls surely wouldn't have hurt the show.
It's still strange that none of the three were invited.

Maybe they visited practices and decided they weren't up to par with the other girls? It's not like the are only using test skates to judge these girls. Test skates seems to have become more about who can deal under performance pressure.

Some instagram accounts have the starting order for tomorrow in their instagram.

Sofia Samodurova
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva
Evgenia Medvedeva
Alina Zagitova

Anna Shcherbakova
Stanislava Konstantinova
Aliona Kostornaya
Alexandra Trusova

Looks like no Sotskova, Gubanova or Sakhanovich. I don‘t have a link but the article in the story of that one fan account was from fsrussia.ru.

Why would they put sasha last :sad21: I want to know if she has a 3A!

Hmmmm. That looks like the national team list of 9. Well except for one. Hmmmm.

I guess Daria is the less known Eteri girl (for me at least) but she is really a beautiful skater. She looks a little like Eteri's daughter and Polina combined:-) I just wonder if she has troubles landing 3-3 because in her LP today, none worked.

I really hope (but doubt) they would send Sofia Akatieva to a novice international competition so that she could become the youngest to land a quad in international comp (or a 3a if she does it soon enough). I'm a bit late, but those 3as are huuuuuge! and consistent from the looks of it! They are really aesthetically pleasing imo.

Guys, on Alina's first junior eligible year she didn't even make it onto the JGP. Give Maiia time. Let her live. God forbid an injured thirteen-year-old makes mistakes at her first two international competitions.

If the starting order is correct, seems like RusFed continues her crusade against Sasha. She usually fails starting after her competitors, if they succeeded.
Some may say it's a good opportunity to train herself for this particular situation, so...

Or maybe it's just a starting order drawn out of a hat.
