2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

The women should start at 20:45 Moscow time.
It’s 4:19 pm in Moscow Russia right now. So the senior ladies are starting in just a little over 4 hours?

I’m so excited! I don’t even know the music choices of Guliakova or Talalakina! Please please be good!

September 21st, historical date for team Tutberidze. This is my song for Sasha and Daniil. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome David Bowie with his song Heroes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXgkuM2NhYI

I
I will be king
And you
You will be queen
Though nothing
Will drive them away
We can beat them
Just for one day
We can be heroes
Just for one day

Both Sof’ya’s unhappy over their performances, Akat’yeva even crying it seems.

Sorry, Women’s SP starts 20:45 Sizran time, 19:45 Moscow time. Stay tuned to the broadcast also.

Akat’yeva’s 3A-3T is probably still a work in progress, and perhaps too ambitious in this stage?
But he who never tries will never triumph, so it’s probably just another learning moment.

To judge by Sof’ya’s emotional reaction she must have been very keen on nailing this combo.

Perhaps tomorrow?

...Who talks like this about anyone?...

Actually, plenty of commenters talk like this here in the Russian Ladies thread, about many of the successful Russian skaters. Any page, any cluster of comments, you will find oodles negativity. either outright and unremitting, or lurking under the guise of constructive criticism or modulated a little by grudging faint praise.

One recognises that this is not a fan thread, but as someone who visits this thread hoping to find and share in celebration of the astounding universe of Russian ladies skating (indeed, with a healthy balance of constructive criticism), which is truly at the vanguard of what's happening elsewhere, I find the RLFS thread a singularly ugly place to hang out.

Perhaps we need a separate thread, called "celebrating Russian ladies figure skating" where just a little more wonder towards the subject matter adn a little less "constructive criticism" could be the order of the day?

Sofiya A has the most beautiful landings and extensions in her jumps (bar perhaps Alina) :) [I should add Kamila, of course, but I particularly like the knee bend and high back leg angle of Sofiya (and Alina)]

She also has a striking calm and grown-up demeanour, which was there even a couple of years ago.

Can anybody (perhaps the resourceful Spirals) point to a source listing all the podium medals garnered by the Tutberidze skaters last season? I'm after a comprehensive listing that includes all the levels, younger, elder girls, juniors and seniors (and boys as well if available)? Tia.

I'm sure it's not a full list (plus novice/jr not marked in the list, sorry) but here's what I've found so far:

Moris Kvitelashvili - silver medalist Rostelecom Cup 2018

Aleksey Yerokhov - World Junior Champion 2018, winner of the Russian Junior Championship 2018

Anna Shcherbakova - finalist of JGP 2018, Champion of Russia 2018-2019, silver medalist of the JWC 2019

Daniil Samsonov - winner of the Championship of Russia 2018, winner of the Championship of Russia 2019

Alexandra Trusova - World Champion among juniors 2018, 2019, silver medalist of JGP 2018, silver medalist of the Russian Championship 2018-2019.

Alyona Kostornaya - silver medalist of JWC 2018, winner of JGP 2018, bronze medalist of the Championship of Russia 2018-2019.

Sofya Akatyeva - silver medalist of the Russian Championship 2019

Arseniy Fedotov - winner of the Championship of Russia 2019

Mark Lukin - bronze medalist of the Championship of Russia 2018

Nikolay Kolesnikov - silver medalist of the Championship of Russia 2019

Veronika Zhilina - Russian Championship winner 2019

And, of course, Lilbet & Alina.

Sasha got 65 PCS, btw  Is it too much or too low for seniors? What other senior ladies were with this number in PCS? It would be interesting to compare them - for reference, I suppose :rolleye:

65 PCS is pretty good for her first senior competition - all the individual components were above 8. Her personal best from last season was 64, so this is an improvement. I think it’s a solid starting point for her and pretty accurately represents where she is currently at. I might have deducted a bit for SS/PE due to the trip before the StSq and wonky landing and found her to be off the music here vs test skates so slight deduction there as well, but I think I would still give her around 64/65. Missing the big musical change in her footwork I would have given maybe slightly lower GOE for that element, but these are nit picky things. We already saw her hit the musical accents/changes at test skates so if she can get back on the music next time her scores have room to grow in the performance categories.

Off topic, but the fact that she got only 65 in PCS and still took the world record says a lot about how incredible she is. That and the fact that she's almost 10 points behind the ladies' SP world record and still took the combined total world record...that's power.

That's only due to stupid ISU rules.
