American Idol 4/24-4/25 -- and beyond??

Toni...........I agree with your assessment. Jordin was off from the beginning, but I can't believe that would hurt her spot at this time. Phil was okay, can't warm up to the guy. I think the bottom two should be Phil and Chris. Lakisha, not my fav, was excellent tonight, but Melinda and Blake (for his stylish singing) are in a league of their own at this point............42

Did anyone else expect the 2 that went home to go home tonight??

Dee

not surprised. Though based on last night's performances Phil could have stayed -but he's had some really craptastic nights too so I guess it all evens out.

surprised that Blake wasn't just declared safe... Jordin's fans really came through for her (and for the first time since CLAY AIKEN - I voted for four stinkin hours! It was after midnight when I went to bed! ACK!)

No surprises for me..........just as I thought, although I would have rather seen Lakisha gone than Chris...........top two for me are still Melinda and Blake.....42

At this point, I was wishing that Blake would have gone home before Chris. Phil and Chris really punched up their songs in the last couple of weeks but I guess it was too late. I hope Melinda, Jordin and Lakisha are the final 3. I really think Jordin will be the next AI.

Dee

Blake and Melinda for top two with Melinda coming away with teh contract!

I have no problem Jordin being the next AI.....I like her voice and personality just slightly less then Blake's and Melinda's.........any of those three for me.....42

I'm pulling for Jordin = I like Blake too = but I think it will be
1- Melinda 2-Blake 3-Jordin

Dang, I taped the wrong channel Tuesday night, so I did not see what everyone sang for competition night, and then saw the part of the elimination show when Phil got the boot....I liked Phil, sad to see him go. I'm glad it was Chris that went with him and not Blake!

I think this is the strongest top 4 ever!

ITA!!

I think this is the first time EVER that they got the right Final 4!! Usually there's one or two in there that you wonder at that point what on earth they are STILL doing in the competition. But finally, this season, the 4 most talented (despite some ups and downs on the parts of Blake and LaKisha) [and actually Jordin Tuesday night] from the original 12 are actually THE TOP FOUR. Amazing.

The only drawback is, at least for me (and I'm sure for some others here as well) that no matter WHO goes home from here on out, it's gonna be tough to see 'em go, because all 4 deserve to be in the final as far as I'm concerned. (Actually, it gets kind of hard at this point in the season anyway; unless it's someone you completely could not stand from Day One, you get pretty attached to them week after week at this point. I was not a huge fan of either Phil or Chris, but it was kind of sad to see them go; they did have their moments. Nonetheless, I was FLABBERGASTED that the two who should have left, did.)

However, that last comment is based on the OVERALL competition from the start; quite frankly, based on Tuesday night alone, I would have sent Blake and Jordin home. Jordin was in WAY over her head with that song (tho she's certainly entitled to have ONE bad night; I'm just glad it didn't cost her) and I don't know WHAT ON EARTH Blake was doing, but I could have well done without THAT. I don't mind the beatboxing in general, but Tuesday night he wasn't hittin' on nothin' as far as I was concerned; it was like STOP IT!! (My usual reaction to Chris, who was actually fairly decent.)

Actually, I thought Tuesday night in general was overall pretty ghastly, and through no fault of the contestants. BON JOVI NIGHT??? I mean, were they SERIOUS?? (Well, yeah, I guess they were.... ). I mean, I would be hard pressed to think of six voices LESS suited for that type of thing than those six (Well, five, actually; I actually did think Phil could pull it off), so I do give all six credit for doing as well as they did (except for Jordin, who should have chose a different song.) Ironically, it was LaKisha, IMHO, who had the performance of the night; for all the less-than-wise decisions she has made in the last few weeks, she chose her song well and did it the best way possible for her style. Now, had it been, as Ryan erroneously referred to it a couple of times, ROCK night, which could have also encompassed, say, (off the top of my head), Journey, Aerosmith, Loverboy, the Stones, I think this would have been a much better night than it was. But I hardly think that Bon Jovi is SUCH an institution that he warrants his OWN night. Come on here.

I have a feeling that Blake is probably going to pick up most of the old Chris vote (since I suspect most of the Chris vote came from teenyboppers who will vote for Cutest Boy In The Competition), which based on the amount of time Chris stayed in, was fairly sizable, so I think he's probably a cinch for the final, but the question is, against whom? It's gonna be pretty tight among the three ladies. The next couple of weeks are going to be MOST interesting......

And by the way, isn't it in the Final 3 show where the JUDGES pick one song for them to sing that they haven't sung before? Like Paula assigns one to somebody, Simon assigns one to the next person, and Randy assigns one to the third? Having given this some thought, here are my picks for what I'd like to see the remaining 4 sing (and feel free to add your own, the results should be quite interesting):

Melinda -- Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You"

Jordin -- Kelly Clarkson's "Behind These Hazel Eyes"

Blake -- I've mentioned this before, Erasure's "Blue Savannah" (WITHOUT any beatboxing, please!!)

LaKisha -- It would have to be something by Aretha Franklin. I'm leaning towards either "Freeway of Love (Pink Cadillac)" or "Another Night".

actually a lot of Chris fans are jumping to Jordin now - at least teh ones I've read online

the few that are voting for Blake are doing so because they are 'best friends' lol

Blake and Melinda for top two!

Popping back on to quickly say:
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED BLAKE!!! I like that song to begin with, but what Blake did with it was sooo cool!!!
Melinda was excellent as well.
Hopefully I'll get to watch the other clips later today.
Thanks again, Dee!

Where have you been JonnyCoop?? I agree with what you posted above. I felt sad when Phil & Chris left...their departing songs were great. Now, they should have done that 1/2 way through.

I really do think Jordin is going to be the next AI.

Regarding Blake, I think that he comes up with gimmicks and that's why he stays in the competition, i.e, beatbox style and his dyed hair. Not quite sure why he dyed his hair and as far as the gimmicks go didn't Sanjaya do the same thing and look how far it got him. Someone said he is more of an entertainer than a singer and I agree with that. That has been my complaint all along....if he wins against the current competition he'll only win it based on the votes of people who think he's cute or like his beatbox style.......but it's a singing competition. If it was a beatbox competition, then I would give him my vote.

Here are my picks for winner just based on pure talent, not my favorites.

Melinda
Lakisha/Jordin

Oh, don't mind me, I just currently lack Good Organization Skills and have had a tendency to space things off for days at a time -- things like "turning on the computer".....

re. Blake: I can understand dismissing him as a mere "gimmick singer" (or, if you will, the AI equivelant of a prop comic  ), but IMHO, there's more to him than that. I really do think he's got a good voice -- not a BIG voice, but a good one. (I certainly would not suggest that he sing one of my favorite songs in life if I didn't believe that.) I just wish he would USE it more; one could argue pretty fairly that he really has yet to do that. I think people respond to him because he IS willing to experiment and funk things up and "turn the beat around" so to speak (Oh, no, Haley flashback....:banging: ) and by doing this he shows that he, if given the opportunity to record an album (which like him or not, you know he'll get), he would probably do a lot of interesting things on it. When I first heard the beatboxing, I did think, well, that's kinda cool, but he better not overdo it and he better use it right, and for the most part I think he's pretty much kept it under control and used it wisely. (Note I said "for the most part" -- When he did with "Time of The Season" it led to what I think was the coolest performance by anyone this season; when he did it Tuesday night --  :sheesh: ) As far as the hair is concerned -- well, dyed hair didn't do much for either Amy Adams or Gina Glocksen.... (On that note, he should have left it alone; he's too pasty to do the dye-it-black thing, tho I realize that Pasty With Dyed Black Hair is quite the rage in some circles.). And, let's face it, he is pretty darn cute. Certainly a lot of female contestants in past seasons have gotten pretty far on "cute". Whether we want to admit or not, packaging IS part of the deal -- I have to wonder if Clay Aiken would have done so well in Season 2 had it not been in part due to his gradual makeover.

But -- I understand your basic point. These things are all a matter of taste, which is what makes this show so interesting.

As for who I'm rooting for to win, I still can't decide. I was the same way in Season Four with Bo and Carrie, but at least then it was just those TWO; now I've got FOUR to pick from. Tho I do at this point put the ladies ahead of Blake, unless he blows me away Tuesday night.

I think voices like Blake don't make it on this show because they have 1.5 minutes to make an impression. The power singers take the crescendo into the rafters and blow everyone away (ie Kelly, Clay, Melinda, etc)

I'm not saying they aren't good, but maybe if they had to sing a full song

but then Rueben wasn't a 'big voice' (just a BIG GUY lol) and he beat Clay so I guess that throws my hypothesis out the window lol
