2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

The problem is she can't skate back to back 2 clean performances. But I hope she will soon.

I think people are also turned off by the music choices for her programs. Daria has everything you could ask for from a junior skater (minus a quad I guess ;) ) but her music choices are a bit odd for a junior debut especially. She does the best she can with them and still is able to show her beautiful skating.

No doubt and think of how great it probably was before Mishin got rid of most of the transitions.

Idk i thought it had a decent amount of choreography in between the elements as it is now, the entry on the lutz is very cool and very Shae Lynn.

Some movement could be hold a little longer but especially the steps sequence actually makes sense now with the right music.

Cup of St. P., top 5:

1. Tuktamysheva 229.12
2. Sakhanovich 193.09
3. Gubanova 188.57
4. Gulyakova 184.36
5. Deyneko (spelling?) 182.11

Great skate by Liza. Her 3A seems super solid. But I still think she leaves a lot of points on the table. No 3S and just one 3F. Perhaps she will change that later on in the season?

Serafima looks great. I am looking forward to see her in SC and RusNats.

Gubanova was good. Maybe she doesn't have the stamina yet but I expect her to up her game coming RC.

But I am worried about Talalaykina. This will not do to get her into RusNats. Her solid 3Lz3T combo from last year just isn't there anymore.

Who is that girl ending in 5th place?

Well, music is okay for me but I'm not a native English-speaker, so I see a beautiful skater performing to a delicate and emotional music when I watch her SP.
Is it another "Big spender" for you?

I have to say, with every competition I like Liza's Programs more (or at least I find them more "ok"). Seems like they weren't ready yet at test skates

Tuktamysheva -> it was a very good skate, all jumps were very solid except the 2a-3t. Later on in the season i can see her doing 3a-3t.

Sakhanovich -> Better than the previous event, out of all the skaters here, she looked the most in shape. Great speed on all the spins, interpretation and performance are getting better. She tried the 3f-2t-2t here, last 2t needed a bit more speed going in, she struggled a little with 3s-3t but it was better than the previous cup of russia stage.

Gubanova -> very conservative with the contents, probably a strategy for now cause she is not in the best shape, still lots of things to polish, but overall it worked, she is on the podium, she can build from here.

Gulyakova -> much better than her previous outing, though you can tell she is also not in shape yet, she doubled all the triples in the second half and looked slow towards the end. I think the program suits her style which is powerful, i want to see more of everything: more speed, more choreography in between the elements, etc.

Talalaykina and Nugumanova looked rough here unfortunately, dunno what it is, all Rukavicin ladies aren't in great shape at this point of the season.

whenever i watch liza i always want her to skate faster. her jumps are textbook and GOEs would be through the roof if she had more speed in and out. i feel like she doesn't "push" to gain speed.

For the first time I just didn't feel Gubanova's "magic". Her jumps are so muscled and ugly. When I was learning singles I had sort of the same arms (not tucked and basically a square). She needs to pull in and have a better air position. She just looks labored. Her jumps are ugly. I understand now if the RFSA ignores her.

Guliakova. Well, it seems she wasn't injured last week when she competed and blew her LP in the second half. She did the same thing. So, her idea of competing is to just DOUBLE everything in the second half? What is going on?

Tuk. She's fierce. Not my favorite by far, but dang, she is bringing it. I prefer her (I can NOT believe I'm saying this....) over Shcherbakova..... Hopefully Anna at Skate America will change my mind (I will be there).

It was funny to hear today in K&C Mishin said - We should shorten (cut) the StSq and Liza - No, we shouldn't :). If it was Mishin's will he would have removed everything from the program except jumps

Yes, I don't think it's a good idea to shorten the StSq, because she is already only getting lvl2 on it

It's funny with Liza. Sometimes I get the feeling she is skating with a Dry Martini in her hand. She looks that cool, and I can understand if the judges are going for it.

The one 3F won’t change likely because she already repeats 3A and 3Lz and you can only repeat 2 kinds of triple jumps.

I wouldn't say there's anything inappropriate about the song. I think if some people don't like it for her it's just that they feel that it's too mature for her to really interpret well (and same for the FS). Personally, I do find the songs a bit heavy and mature for her, though the FS works better for me than the SP for whatever reason. I still enjoy her skating, and she does super well with them, so it's not too big a deal for me.

Bringing things back on topic -- looks like JGPF outlook is starting to take shape:
Already qualified -- Kamila Valieva, Alysa Liu
On track to qualify -- Lee Hae In (needs at least 3rd), Daria Usacheva (needs win to be safe, 2nd might do depending on Hae In's, Frolova's & Sinitsyna's outcomes), Kseniia Sinitsyna (needs at least 2nd)
Remaining contenders -- Anna Frolova (needs at least 2-2), Viktoria Vasilieva (if Frolova has a lower scoring 3-2 placement)
Outside shot -- Park Yeon-jeong (needs 2-2 but unlikely to have higher scoring ability than Frolova & Sinitsyna)

Final tally likely to be 4 Russians... quite safe for 3 at least...
Prior to the last 2 seasons, the JGPF used to be 3 Russians and 3 Japanese typically, so IMO what's new is less of the decline of Russian dominance as the emergence of competitive contenders from other countries. Which is great for diversity!
