2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Seems to me, that so far this season the UR calls has been increasing. Has there been any changes in the ISU rules regarding URs this year? Do they now adapt a more stricter approach?
I guess it's early days yet to fully see the effects of this, but it seems to me so far that URs are being judged more harshly. (E.g. RC Stage 1 where the judges were brutal with the URs - poor Nugumanova).

I think the BV for underrotated jumps got higher this season so maybe the tech panels are more inclined to call them now? I find both Annas and Evgenias calls dubious though, looks like the benefit of doubt is not a thing anymore? Or rather, it's inconsistent as drivingmissdaisy said. On the other hand, I'm no technical controller, so what do I know. :D

Supposedly the rationale for lessening the deduction for URs this season was so the tech panel would be stricter in their calls. What I think would have been more important is additional review cameras, because we all know that a borderline jump can look clean from one angle but clearly UR from another.

I am all for consistent calling throughout the season, for all skaters. If they are taking this harsh stance, I hope it continues to be applied across the board. My problem is with inconsistent calling because then how are the skaters/coaches supposed to know what to work on if they keep receiving inconsistent feedback?

CS Asian Open Trophy entrants are now known. As expected, NO Russian ladies.:(:(

That means that there is only two Challengers left for the likes of Gubanova, Gulyakova, Leonova, Talalaykina, Nugumanova, Tsibinova etc...

Will any of them get any Challengers this year? Or is RusFed thinking they have too many ladies in the top as it is?

Last year, the ones that didn't have GP's but got Challengers were: Tarusina and Gulyakova got 1, Gubanova and Sakhanovich got 2.

Don't forget about Tarakanova and Vasilieva possibly getting one. Tarakanova especially needs one to get her SB score up, but Vasilieva might not need/get one if she makes the JGPF, and she also has a pretty high SB already. I'd hope they would give at least one to Tarakanova, and hopefully two to Gubanova, as she is the only Senior national team member without a GP or Challenger. They didn't give Nugumanova one last year, so I don't think they're gonna give her one this year, as much as I'd love to see her at one. Same thing with Talalaykina. Maybe Tsibinova and Gulyakova will also get one each. There's 6 spots left, so maybe 2 to Gubanova, one to Tarakanova, One to Tsibinova, one to Gulyakova, and one to either Vasilieva or Nugumanova or something. I don't think they'll give Leonova anything.

Agree. The tech panel needs better technology. ( which is a bit ironic actually)

I honestly think people are giving too much credit to Rusfed. Sure, they’re smart enough to do some strategizing, they don’t care about that too much though. Clearly, if they wanted to maximize the potential of the existing ladies, all the spots would’ve been given away, fundings for those international trips budgeted ahead of time and stuff. They only go as far as ensuring the main team has at least 1 challenger, and there’s someone who might get 3, the rest is totally random it looks like.

It's likely that GP skaters who don't make the GPF will get Golden Spin (last year Liza was assigned to it but withdrew after qualifying to the GPF).

Random? To me it more and more seems like it's up to the coaches and how they want to spend their money. Mishin, for example, seems to prioritize Challengers as his skaters always get at least 2 assignments. And he spends less money on other stuff, like choreography?

Well she was ill before the competiton with high fever. Lost one week of training. And lilbeth is recovering from an injury.

well well well..the tech panel here is really something!
Looks like no one was in a good shape here, it was quite hard to watch everyone if I'm honest,
but the scores were dropping like crazy! I'm quite shocked they did that, good luck to Shanghai with getting participants for this event next year.

People on Instagram said that Sasha jumped 4Lz, 4S, 4T3T, 2A, 4T, 3Lz3Lo and 3Lz1Eu3S (in that order) in her run-through today! I can't verify it, but it isn't unrealistic given that this is Sasha we're talking about.

How will Nathan Chen respond?
