2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

That is so adorable!! If all of the quad A were on team Europe I think the other teams wouldn't show up lol. Anna and Sasha could be in the men's and Alina and Alena could be in the ladies. What a line up tho:love:

The Four Aces as a team would be very hard to beat. There was a recent blog post about having a Russian Open the same way as Japan Open: https://www.sovsport.ru/figure/articles/2:920153

For fun, invent your own team to challenge the Four Aces? Like in Open Test Skates FP with its two flights: Four Aces and Best of the Rest ...

Is Alena Kansheyva a Senior next year? What’s going on with her now, can she make it to junior worlds this year? Was super excited to see her quad toe debut this season :/

I'm wondering about this too. Last year she was getting big GOEs and components that almost helped her to beat Anna and Sasha, despite their TES, she was always receiving total marks that were quite close to theirs.
But scores of both were kind of deflating on their senior events, compared to their junior days, so I'm wondering whether the judges will deflate some of Aliona's scores as well?
As a junior she was getting +5 goe on her 2A across the board (deservedly!) and components that even then were matching some seasoned seniors. I certainly expected that marks for all 3 would increase as soon as they go senior, considering all improved a lot, but now I'm trying to hold back my expectations... I just hope she won't lose to anyone in components in Finlandia. :sad4:

There is a learning curve with newbie seniors. In most cases the marks they receive on the junior level don't immediately translate on to the senior level...sometimes it takes a competition or two. The only person who managed to bypass this was Evgenia when she turned senior. She immediately received scores comparable to the top skaters in the sport based in large part to the way she performed and how consistent she was in her debut season.

I feel like Alena will be similar to Evgenia in that regard. She skates like a senior lady already: beautiful presentation, line, grace, speed, interpretation and presence. I don't think she'll come in earning top PCS right away but I'd imagine she'll score in the high mid-range to begin (32-34 in the SP, 65-67 in the FS) and her scores will increase as the season goes along. I do think there's a good chance she'll beat Liza T in PCS. Liza is great but her PCS tend to be her weakness. She may be able to win based on her TES but I'd expect Alena to earn high GOE for her elements which could make up the difference.

I'm looking forward to seeing her debut. Alena has been my favorite Russian for the last two seasons. I think she's a stunningly beautiful girl and such a lovely skater.

With what the juniors were getting this season, I'll be pissed if Aliona gets 65-67.

Duel between Tuktamysheva and Kostornaya, skater from "Cirque du Soleil". Why should we watch this tournament in Finland?

All needed information about Finlandia Trophy - 2019.

9 October 2019, Wednesday, 20:15 Alexander Mysyakin, Sport24 / RIA News Next week, the stages of the senior Grand Prix begin. This weekend, participants will have one last opportunity to test their programs before starting in Las Vegas. On October 11–13, the Finlandia Trophy Challenger Series tournament will be held in the suburbs of Helsinki.

Women

The main intrigue of the tournament is what will win: components or technique. Alyona Kostornaya and Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva met on the same ice only once before - the Russian championship in St. Petersburg. There, Kostornaya won the Bronze, and Tuktamysheva took only seventh place. In 2018, Alyona first competed in the senior championship. Lisa was not in shape - often the peaks of her career were in the post-Olympic seasons. Now the situation has changed. We tell why it is worth following the second duel of Kostornaya and Tuktamysheva.

1. For Alena, Finlandia Trophy is the first international start in her senior career. Lisa has been competing in this tournament since 2013. During this time, she only twice was not on the pedestal.

2. According to technical base value, Tuktamysheva is about 10 points ahead. She performs three triple Axels in her two programs and already in the short can create a gap. Kostornaya at her competitions didn't show elements of 'ultra-si'. With clean skating runs, everything will depend on the judges and their marks for the elements. The quality of the jumps of both skaters is at a high level.

3. Alyona is considered one of the most component skaters in the team, and her sliding skills can even be called one of the best in the world. Lisa was repeatedly let down by the assessment for the artistic part of her programs - she draws them with her charisma. If both skaters will skate cleanly, the components of Alyona should no doubt be higher.

The question is whether and by how much. Judging by the statistics on the pages of the figure skaters on the ISU website, Lisa overtakes Alyona in the components, but it is not yet clear how Kostornaya will be evaluated in senior competitions.

A little intrigue remains regarding the programs of athletes. Tuktamysheva showed two different shorts this season - under Oblivion by Astor Piazzolla and under Drumming Song from Florence and the Machine. The backbone of the program was the same, only the music changed.

Tuktamysheva changed the music for her short program. This did not stop her from gaining more than 80 points in St. Petersburg
After the skater’s performance at the St. Petersburg Cup stage, Alexey Mishin, Liza’s coach, told “the level of mastery of the entire steps structure, which is fairly fractional, allowed her to switch back to the original music, which we will adhere to.”

The original version was staged by the Canadian choreographer Shae-Lynn Bourne. If Drumming Song is performed, the score for the components in at least Lisa's short program can increase.

The program seems more dynamic and bold, and frankly, that's exactly how I see Liza. The lyrics and the sound represent her personality on the ice perfectly!

" Louder than sirens
Louder than bells
Sweeter than heaven
And hotter than hell "

It will be interesting to look at the costumes of the girls. Kostornaya kept her short program under Max Richter from last season, but the dress may well change. In the free program, she will skate to music from the movie "Twilight". Initially, this production was indicative of Alyona, but they decided to remake it into a competitive program. In the show of Eteri Tutberidze “Champions on Ice” Alyona put on a cape at the beginning of the program - now she probably won't.

Tuktamysheva skates her free program to jazz music by The Hot Sardines. Costumes raise questions: in Italy at the Lombardia Trophy tournament, the athlete skated in training trousers with a white shirt and red gloves, and in the St. Petersburg Cup in a trouser suit with a vest and an untied tie. No comments were given on the final version of the costumes, so we'll have to remain in waiting for the girls' free program.

It is Kostornaya and Tuktamysheva who will most likely compete for first and second places. In addition to them, in Finland it is worth looking only at the bronze medalist of the 2017 World Cup Gabrielle Daleman. At the end of last season, the athlete during her warm-up at the team world championship collided with a French skater and injured herself. Gaby now says she’s fully recovered and is ready for the Finlandia Trophy.

There is more but that doesn't belong in this thread. Perhaps later somewhere else, there is so much news to interpret.

Does anyone know which coaches from team Tutberidze are going to their various events this weekend? I assume Rozanov will go with Sofia Akatieva and co to COR stage 2, but who will go to Denis Ten vs. Finlandia. Assuming Eteri is staying at home to prepare the rest of the skaters for their GP assignments, I would think Daniil would take one comp and Dudakov the other. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Aliona at a comp with just Daniil, so maybe Dudakov will go with her to Finland and Daniil will go to Kazakhstan? Any coach sightings today?

Apart from skaters and their personal training strategies, program choices and whatever else, Rusfed has their own agenda and strategy for the season. Which is reasonable and expected. I mean, it would be a bad fed if they didn't. Same for ISU and other feds.

For example, I am curious to see how she will be scored in PCs and so on. Will she be held up and propped? Will she be lowballed? How her scores will look compared to Trusova / Scherbakova? And compared to Liza?

Don't know why you got criticized for this. RusFed will likely want to avoid the theater of choosing a World team after last year, especially since they now have at least 6 eligible team members. You make it clear-cut by making decisions early.

Assuming Konstantinova and Samodurova don't make the cut (to judge by their results shows until this day) FFKKR has an A and a B team. The A team goes to Worlds and the B to Europeans?

A team decision most likely wouldn't be made until after Europeans. On my view, it will be Alina and Sasha, with the third spot largely up for grabs between the rest. With so many skaters, maybe they would want to share the wealth and send other skaters to Europeans (since Alina may not really need to go if she doesn't want to), but I expect that "testing" for the third spot will continue into Europeans. Who they send there will be very interesting.

The most interesting will be of course, it the choice is made on the basis of the skaters' real merit and competitive strength and not on coaches' reputation and invisible power lines ...
The level of competition facing the Russian women in Europeans is considerably less at the moment than on the world stage, a B or even C team will certainly suffice.
