2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

If Maria withdraws, the spot doesn't have to be filled with another russian skater, so Sima might not benefit from that. Let her skate if she wants to. I for one am glad to see her not giving up.

I know it isnt guaranteed that Stotskovas spot would be filled by a russian since the frensh fed decides but if she where to withdraw in good time I would say there is like a 90% chance it would go to Sima and 9% chance Gubanova and 1% to a skater from another fed. In the last couple of years a withdrawal from a major fed has allways been replaced by someone from the same fed and then first by giving a second spot to someone who originaly only had one.

Im not saying Sotskova should retire if she wants to skate but I could see the sens in withdrawing from GP if she isnt in competetive form to give someone else the chance.

So a further month of recovery/healing and training? Good to hear #TeamTutberidzeForProgress doesn't push this Alyona, just like they haven't pushed the other Alyona who now throws triksels with excellent form.

Kamila Valiyeva is also nursing a small injury but much to our fortune, she was 'divided' in two skaters for replacement in Denis Ten Memorial, the excellent Maya Khromykh and superb Dar'ya Usachyova.

Kameshek might also have a big surprise in store for us ....

Oh no, I hope Kamila is alright! And why do you say Kanysheva might have a surprise in store?

Good to know, thanks! I haven't been following FS for too long so I don't know how it's been handled in the past.

If Maria feels she's not in shape for a GP I'd be happy to see Sima get a second one!

Well, she was said to be working on ultra-si too, so who knows what she might have learned in the meantime?

Like with Kostornaya, her first real competition of the season will be anticipated by many.

She is Khrustalniy's only 2005 born skater AFAIK, perhaps #TeamTutberidzeForProgress might want to add another girl her year to the team?

But for her own sake, I hope she is considering withdrawing from her GP. Isn't Sakhanovich next in line due to SB? She is seemingly still motivated so if she does well in her first GP maybe she should get a second (I'm pretty sure Sima's GP is before Sotskova's). What's the point to go to a GP and get 49 in the SP? And worse in the LP? Go out with some dignity, Maria. You made the Olympics. You are forever an Olympian. Take a bow. This show is over say goodbye. Be proud of your accomplishments.
For her own sake [emoji23][emoji23] sure thats what its about. Forget that she really enjoys skating and competing, no it's way more important that she does what people want her to do. She got the GP fair and square, she clearly wants to conpete. So why can't people just leave it at that? Everyone is always talking about 'her own good' I think Masha is old enough to decide on her own whats her 'own good'

I’m sorry, but I simply do not think this is true. Can you give some examples to support your statistic of 90%?

For example, this past week Julian Yee was chosen to replace Mikhail Kolyada at Skate Canada, rather than another Russian skater.
Or are you referring only to the ladies? :scratch2:

I can't believe I'm reading things like this. Who are you guys to tell her what's best for her? Why can't they do what makes them happy, even if it's Leonova style? Just back off already.

I don't know all of Maria's placements from over the years, but I know enough of them that whether she leaves the sport now, after this season, or after ten seasons that she already has enough dignity. She has many medals and is an accomplished skater who is just going through a hard time right now. She is having to deal with a coaching change, balancing school and skating, and the loss of her father. It wasn't too long ago that Liza Tuktamysheva was having some rough competitions and wasn't in her top shape. Now look at where she is. I think that Maria still loves skating, otherwise she wouldn't be competing this season, and that she just needs some time to adjust to her new life.

I am done arguing about this topic. Just leave the poor girl alone and remember that she, like you, is human and makes mistakes.

Wow, came back after 8 hours on this thread, meanwhile A. Kostornaya got a 3A + one in combo and boom10 more pages here with comments  it's like WC happened and I missed it!

After this wonderful surprise from Alena I can not think about Eteri's ladies without hearing Sasha's little brother with: "And to tear everyone down! Into pieces. Into pieces"

Huge respect for all the ladies in this group!

Watching all those early predictions come to life was like watching the last few episodes of GoT with all the spoilers proving true. Alena's 3A is beautiful and I'm so glad her legs are much higher than the 2A. Definitely changing the game.

I knew Alena had something up her sleeve! When people were complaining that she kept her SP, and that she was the Russian lady who had the least improvement, and she was not going to fare well against all the quadsters and Alina. I just knew that Alena would have an answer to all that, and here she is showing us she's been on top of her game all along. This season will be so exciting.

Ooh I hope so! Alina’s not going down without a fight, she sees what her training mates can do everyday and she can definitely challenge them. I think her flip has a lot of potential, definitely her best jump so maybe they can get her out of the harness for the quad.

Well, at least she doesn't seem to be stressed about the competition. Maybe because she already won it all and proved to her own self that she belongs to the best of the best in this sport. I think this will give her the freedom not to think about winning/losing and she'll enjoy her work on the ice.

Alena probably kept her SP to have more time to work on the 3As. Now that I think about it, it makes a lot of sense to put one 3A in the short - she's already so familiar with the program the only thing she would need to worry about is the axel, and it is already placed at the start anyway.

I mean: NO..... NO..... and NO..... Sorry LenaFan I agree with you lots, just not on this one..

Now that Aliona has a 3A, everyone is like “World Team Alina/Sasha/Aliona!!!!1!1!” What about Anna, who just scored 150 and won her senior debut too? She can score even higher. Chill out people, the season has barely started [emoji23]

Feel like Anna is always the underdog, but like at nationals and Lombardia she proved everyone wrong! Hoping she adds the second 4Lz in combo though.
