2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I don’t think Liza will beat her even with a 3a in the short. Didn’t she just get 73 with a clean short in Lombardia?

I never liked Sotskova's skating, the helicopter tanos grated me (is removal of tano as bullet point for plus GOE "Sotskova rule"?).

But some people are just nasty. She can skate if she wants to, can afford it and can handle it.

Apparently, some view Russian skaters as humanoid Russian flags, that bring medals and once they don't, well... hell with them...

I still stand by my opinion that Sotskova should do her GP if she wants to though at this point I'm not sure if she'd enjoy it. Was she crying in the K&C? At least this Free Skate didn't look like she had fun. Hope she can sort out whatever's messing with her jumps. :(

I'm very happy for Aliona! She got a very high score for a new senior. I hope they add a 3A in the future though. It will be simply gorgeous with the music.

I don’t think it has anything to do with medals, Russia is just packed with girls, who are locked inside and dying to get an international assignment. There’s a ton of ladies who are motivated and training hardcore, but still don’t have any opportunities. Compared to them, it might appear to some people as if Maria doesn’t want it as badly as they do.

I feel like people are being hard on Sotskova, because everyone decided she just doesn’t want it anymore. I don’t know whether it is true or not, nobody besides Maria knows. She might train and work hard, and perhaps something isn’t working out with training or her mental approach is making it difficult. Who knows.
But she deserved her spots, she’s there because she earned them.

Im sure they will add it later in the season, she needs to be consistent landing the triple axel first
the FS is better because she can make mistake with them, the SP if cant land her 3 axel it will pull alot of her score, she needs to establish reputation first too

She had a messy 3A landing. She might still be able to beat Aliona's score because she went back to the original music in the SP (it's so much better) and a really good 3A will net her a lot more points. We will see. If clean, she can challenge. Aliona is just a beautiful skater.

Let's hope she has both sense and honour and abstains from the GP starts in favour of a skater with better potential.

Once again with the rude comments about how she should give up competitions she earned and has every right to be at.
This place is utterly toxic at times.

Moving on... Wow Alena Kostornaia, huge score for her senior debut! That score should rise too, making her a real threat to her rivals.

if she had the decency, she would withdraw

Can we just please STOP with this? You're all behaving like this poor young woman has done something horribly wrong! Yeah she's doing awful at the moment but she is still skating, still trying and still wants to be part of this beautiful sport.
I respect her for NOT giving up.

Serafima Sakhanovich won gold at the Denis Ten Memorial.

Not her best free but she went for all the triples, now she can rest and prepare for Skate Canada.

If Masha wants to skate at the GP, let her for goodness sakes. She was #3 in Russia for two seasons, earned herself a GPF silver, and two medals at nationals. She deserves her spot because she was an amazing skater, who brought Russia plenty of GP medals previously. As a big fan of Masha, it pains me to see her in this state, if she doesn't want to skate at the GP, then that's her choice, but based off her success from 2016-2018, Masha deserves this GP just as much as Sakhanovich or Gubanova. Though, of course, if she were to withdraw, it would be wonderful to see Gubanova get a spot on the GP.

Neither Guliakova nor Sakhanovich had exactly skates of their lives either today (Nastia popped many jumps, Sakhanovich fell and nearly fell) but I don't think there is a reason to talk negatively about them as well as there is no reason to talk this way about Masha.

Assuming a clean skate, any wild guesses how they will score Liza's PCS? I'm dying to see how she will be compared to Alyona... :drama:

Yeah and let's keep in mind that last week Medvedeva and Tursynbaeva had a less than stellar skate too.

It's early in the season, athletes recover from injuries or are not quite ready to compete, it's okay this level of performance at this early stage.
