No they didn't have to step aside, more skaters qualified for spots than the number available, you act like she stole a spot.

Well, they had to step aside because the IDF organizing committee decided to invite Sotskova and not others. Also keep in mind that GP Series need money from sponsors and tickets to cover their expenses. Maybe Sotskova sounded better than Serafima or Leonova in terms of ticket sales. They cannot exactly uninvite a skater later.
Competitive Russian figure skaters do not strike me as a community where someone would step aside so that someone more worthy/in better shape/more perspective could get their moment in the spotlight. I remember an instance where a skater from another country gave up his Worlds spot saying someone younger needs it more than he does. But I don't see why that should be expected of everyone.

Honestly, I like Alena, but I do enjoy Tuktik slightly more. Not judging the technical aspect, but Liza has a big wow-factor and is a hell of performer.

That is not correct as I understand it. "The others" were not invitable because RusFed had already cut them, so IDF had nothing to do with it.

Yes what happened? I truly believed that Liza would break 80 points here. I didn't spot any URs. But it seems that the judges has been harsh. Also Starr scored 10 points less than Lombardia.

How did they cut them? If they qualified, they could be chosen by the federation hosting the GP, right?
I hope she doesnt get demotivated, It was worthy of 75+ not a 72+
80 at the start of the season ? no way but it was definitely a 75 above skate. conservative scores or maybe they found her weaknesses after skating to Kostarnaia.

No they couldn't. Not if RusFed didn't submit them and that's what happened in this case.

Also, I am not sure where you are getting at with all this. That Rusfed deliberately pushed skaters aside to give Sotskova spots, because...?

And the nickname is just a symbol of the similar over-the-board adoration, idolization even that some fans display for Alyona that they used to for Caro.
