2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Well, that was interesting!

Nugumanova - she's such a wonderful skater and performer. But those URs... I really thought she had URs on all 3 triples but the judges were kinder to her this time around and she only got one. But she is such a great spinner she shouldn't lose levels on her spins.

Tarakanova - just a step out of the combo, but she will probably fix that with a win tomorrow.

Gubanova - not great. Fall on the Lutz and the StepSq looked underwhelming. Hope she does better in the free.

Gracheva did something interesting. She popped her 3Lo in the 3F+3Lo combo and did only a 1Lo. -5 GOE. Then she did a nice 3Lz and added a 2T to that - and she shouldn't have. That counted as a second combination and the Lutz got -5 GOE.

Petrosyan only came to Khrustalniy in May or something, she was in the Test Skate feature that Perviy Kanal did on the Khrustalniy juniors.

No doubt Adeliya is in the harness almost every training session trying to learn triksels or quads. Kids her age, strong, small, resilient, are ideal to learn ultra-si. She just shouldn't give up and she will master the element to have it in her arsenal forever. Plus having 30 kgs kids in the harness is so much easier for the trainers handling the pole.

Here is Adeliya's SP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0DSd4WEVX8, the rest of today's routines are there too, the FFKKR Youtube channel.

There isn't a single empty moment, it's all movement, transitions, changes of directions, full with poses, jumps, spins and quirks, and it looks very much organic, complete and fitting to the skater.
Also look at her expressive face, she even grins after the 3F-3T ;-)
IMO this is a young skater with huge potential in the hands of #TeamTutberidzeForProgress.

Cup of Russia, 2nd stage, top 5 after the SP:

1. Nugymanova 68.09
2. Tarakanova 67.37
3. Gubanova 59.70
4. Sidorova 56.87
5. Sheveleva 52.75

I can't find the results of the Cup of St. Petersburg.

Do you know where the protocols can be found?

I really enjoy watching Akatyeva skate because I find her so poised. She is always down in her knees and taking the time to extend her whole body into every move she does. I think this is something a lot of skaters lack these days because they are rushing choreography and overdoing their transitions. Technical abilities aside, I see such strong promise in her overall skating even as young as she is. Shame we won't see her on the JGP next year, but I think her future is so bright.

Even without a 3A or quads, this little girl really has the IT factor. Just a firecracker and so fun to watch. Full of showmanship and style. Loved her.

I would imagine 3A as in triple axel, which is how an English speaker would refer to the 3A:)

“3A” as a nickname for skaters is cute, but it is confusing on an English language forum.

Myself, I like “Four Aces” (since I think there are actually four ladies whose names begin with A, no? ) It’s an old timey singing group as well.

Yes, triple axel is too long to write, 3A is 3 Russian mega juniors who turned seniors this season, people do not like "triksel". What can we do?

Well, three Aces works too:biggrin:

On an English language forum, 3A is triple axel. Which is why we abbreviate it 3A. 3A was used long before these talented Russian ladies skated, and will be used long after, to mean triple axel.

It's even shorter to type than trixel;)

from that video link, Shcherbakova stroking technique and Julias double axel, not good for both.

Her skating skills are pretty good; she has nice posture, deep edges, and generates speed very easily. Yulia's double axel takeoff is super short, Adeliya actually rides her edge into the double axel (with nice transitions in and out).

thank you for the results Dennis.

Oh Nastya G. :( I know she's with a new coach and in a new situation but she scored well over 70 points in the Russian Cup final in February with her jazzy take five program and she should have kept it for this season and perfected it. To score in the 50s with this new short program is a blow to her and I hope she can recover from it. for her to work on two new programs with a new coach and a new choreographer is asking a lot of her or anyone else.

I really hope after this competition Anastasia goes back to her excellent short program from last season because that program had flow and speed and she could build momentum in it. She scored well over seventy in that in the Russian Cup final and it could have been another point or two higher than that to be fair. Now 8 months later she scores under 60 in her new short program. I really wonderif all the pushback she received on that interview a few months ago has hurt her and I also wonder if her bitter former coach going public with expelling Nastya and that she was not in shape to skate did irreparable damage to her and her confidence. Because quite frankly this is not the same skater we saw at Nationals had on the Russian Cup final less than a year ago. I hope she finds her game and is patient with herself. But with all the talent around her and her own country it's a battle for survival everyday. Not just for Nastya but all the other Russian girls and ladies too.

Well done to Nugu and NT. Whoever skates better tomorrow will take first place. It will be a well-deserved victory for either. Liza Tutk is still outstanding but she needs more ladies in St Petersburg to get to her level or close to it because right now she's far and away way ahead of all the other girls in St Petersburg. let's see who can catch her or at least get close to her this season from the same city. It's asking a lot but I hope some of the other SP ladies get a lot better because it's both frustrating and annoying that all the great skaters in Russia come from Moscow except for Liza T. The Moscow ladies are great and extremely likable but right now in my opinion it's too lopsided everything is tilted toward Moscow and St. Petersburg is forgotten or so it seems.

I've been saying over and over that Tukt is one of the most one-dimensional skaters out there. Beyond her jumps and the 3A, she doesn't have much else going in her skating. She and her team have completely ignored developing her other skating skills, and she has had YEARS to improve, so I don't get why she and camp Mishin are acting all "surprised Pikachu" at the current results.

The one dimension that she's exceptional in wasn't rewarded. Her jump GOE was very low for what she put out there. I'm not Liza's fan I don't like her programs, performances, spins, or footwork, but she has some of the best jumps in the ladies and she's not rewarded for it.
