2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

The hate Sasha is getting is heartbreaking, she's 15 years old and smashing world records like it is nothing and she's being treated appallingly for it.
I accidentally read a nasty comment on Twitter that was so hateful, so disgusting and poisonous that it made me feel physically sick.
What is wrong with people?!

You don't even have to be a big fan of Sasha's or even a supporter of hers to know how special and unique she is. Of the 4A she is my fourth favorite. But Sasha is so special and so tough and such a little tigress. I just hope her team can keep her protected from ridiculous hate and criticism.

What are people complaining about anyway? Quads? Lol. Okay let's remove them from men's figure skating. ;) The issue is Sasha is years ahead of her time and people mainly fans have to catch up. And fans are fanatics and sometimes that comes across as what people write on the internet. Sad.

For those people, keyboard is one of few places where they show nasty without being caught.

Insane how some people are bashing Sasha for her accomplishments. This is a sport and she bested everyone else with her physical ability and mental game. She's doing 4 quads for crying out loud. She's not my favorite of 4A, but she deserves the gold because she's just better than everyone else.

If she were severely lacking in all other elements, those quads should not carry her to the top, but she's clearly great elsewhere too. Presentation is not her strong suit, and some may argue her PCS should be lower - but let's be real, PCS won't be enough to keep Sasha and her 4 quads down anyway. :confused2:

Simone Biles in gymnastics used to be bashed for her dominance (non-artistic, too powerful, etc) but now she's lauded as a GOAT. Sasha is doing exactly what she needs to win, and the only way others can win is if they match her in the scores game or if the scores game changes. For now, let's see the exciting fight from the other 3A. They will not give up without a fight and this will surely be exciting :)

That is exactly why there's so much outcry to change the rules. It is the only way to stop someone like Sasha.

She's a pioneer but she's not the only ladies skater with technical firepower.

If Sasha falters there is an increasing line of quad queens and 3A princesses ready to take gold.

Hence the clamouring for an age limit change to prevent that too

Great correlation to Simone Biles Sasha is like her to figure skating. Sasha is like nothing we've ever seen in ladies figure skating before and it's going to take people a while to get used to her and all her quads and dominance.

Did you hear all bs that TSN commentators are spewing? Ugh :drama:
They are clearly intent on ruining Sasha's performance for all American viewers as much as possible and are so in a hurry of setting their narration that in middle of her step sequence they are already starting their hatespeech about how she is "slow, not artistic, just a jumping machine" etc. Such a contrast between how they are usually commenting about Liu's skating :rolleye:
And yet people here are preaching me that there is "fair attitude to all nations", "I am just conspiracy theories freak", "noone hates Russians", "there is no double standarts" etc. What a hypocrites :sarcasm:

The TSN commentators are not judges or on the tech panel. Who cares what they say? Alexander got her 241 points and took them to the bank.

Maybe it's surprising for you - but there are great deal of common viewers, who watches fs relying heavily on what commentators are saying - and letting them set the mood of particular performance and their own attitude towards particular skater. After that, feeling frustration about such results, thinking this state is not fair - they will begin to complain and demand changing the system through twitter and social media. Even directly to ISU. Which in turn can create certain pressure to them - to which they feel a need to respond with something. It's called "masses opinion preparing and manipulation" and it's pretty common technology used in politics, elections etc. So, in the end, I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of "Trusova rule" being introduced in nearest ISU congress - of course because "people wants it" - and they wouldn't be even wrong about that :rolleye:

Ugh, you just reminded me of SLC when everyone (who weren't the judges) pretty much bullied the IOC into giving the second OGM to S/P :bang:

This kind of biased American commentary is nothing new. Watch any US commentary for major competitions from the 90s and you'll find it too. They would just endlessly bash foreign skaters for certain weaknesses but sing the praises of the US ones without fail

The last time I remember commentators were trashing Alina for having jumping passes in the second half (someone even said he can have a toilet break during the first half), she ended up winning the Olympics that year and then worlds a year later. Go on, commentators, I’ll be enjoying even more quads from our dragon who’s going to keep breaking records and winning titles :)

NBC had their Skate America 'coverage' on this afternoon, they should really call it 'highlights of the disciplines that the US wins in'; even though Bradie placed second and Shcherbakova has a historic program (2 4Lz's in competition) they didn't even mention the ladies or pairs disciplines

Might as well enjoy it while we can because the endless complaining and bullying for changes to be made might end up with a "Trusova rule" powerful enough to stifle these young talents.

I can't watch the video and listen to what they're saying because there's a block on it from NBC. :(

Somehow if Sasha was American or Canadian I think the TSN critics would be a little bit less harsh in their critique of this meteoric phenomenon. ;) And yes let's watch what they say about Alysa in the coming years. She's really really good but she has some holes in her game. I say she's only 14 let her develop and see if she can land multiple triple axles and multiple quads in the same program in the near future. We know she's going to try

You missed last week when NBC showed Shcherbakova.

Anyway, Johnny and Tara are extremely balanced...

Who the hell is TSN and when have they commented on Alysa? I think you have your facts mixed up.

Trusova's program look much better now than in her previous 2 outings. The first half actually has choreography now. Astounding when you consider she also landed a 4-1-3 and a 3-3Lo in the second half. Six years ago the only man doing a 3 quad program was Javi. Now even women are doing it. Imagine we could have been stuck with 6-triple layouts, zero transitions and the easiest spins including a parody of a layback .

Stop comparing Trusova with Biles, Biles must be compared with Bonaly, since Biles and Bonaly compete with men and nobody finds any artistic difference. Trusova will have limitations with her art but she is still present, she is very feminine and will obviously continue to improve as Zagitova did.
