2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Are you talking about the occasional Alysa criticism here? I have noticed some posters sometimes be harsh on her in a Russian ladies thread and I know why. She is the real threat to the dominance of the Russians junior girls. She can score very high as can Kamila. Junior Grand Prix final and Junior World should be major events for us fans. No one knows what's going to happen which is why we watch.

I thought that we were talking about senior ladies. As for Alysa I had read that she was very slow, zero artistry, etc. And it came from basically western fans. So I was quite surprised when I saw her this season, surprised because she is in fact quite good. Well, if you compare her with top Russians Valieva, Sinitsina, and Usacheva there is a lot of work to do. But, I understand, that she loses in pcs to them and this is fair.

Now criticism hits basically her URs. I personally have no opinion on that now as I never invested in a closer look. But UR/edge business is a favorite pastime of many especially when at the same competition some calls are made and some are not. Like some people here keep insisting that Trusova's quads are "cheated". And I remember that the same was said about Valieva's quads. That's where some rationale about attacks on Alysa comes from. A defensive reaction not that I approve it per se.

About Serafima.

Do you think she will get a challenger later on? like a Golden Spin or something like that?

It wasn't a complete bomb here, unfortunately the landing of both 3f and 3s were forward so she couldn't attach the 3t.

An unfortunate outing but she showed she can skate clean these programs earlier this season, i suspect what she did in Canada will still be better than what Sotskova will do at her GP event, and it is better than what Konstantinova did at Skate America.

Loved what Ted said about about Alexandra. He’s such a nice person.
If someone can get his full comment here, it would be nice.

He has always been an enthusiastic cheerleader for all three girls, and he probably knows them better than other commentators (having watched their practices during Junior grand prix seasons) I wish Canada would realize that he doesn't need a co-host-except for maybe Megan in pairs-she is the only one who actually adds to the conversation.

She's assigned to Warsaw Cup.

He could use an ice dance specialist as well to help him during ice dance. There are a lot of great former ice dancers who could assist. He doesn't really know enough about ice dance to offer the technical insights that he is able to provide in the other disciplines.

I couldn't believe that the other guy thought Anna and Sasha were the same person :scratch2: It's always so frustrating when commentators don't do enough research. :otopic: I recall that last year some commentators unintentionally downplayed Viveca Lindfords because they didn't check her readily available ISU bio carefully enough to see that she'd had already posted a really high score.

This Russian journalist who I've noticed for time to time for making extremely sensationalist tabloidy articles meant to drive clicks was caught making up a quote from Ted Barton. Those in the Russian speaking fandom should spread this around.

https://sport.business-gazeta.ru/article/246816
https://twitter.com/TedBarton7/status/1188449996506447872

I don't know why this journalist (whose name I also have not heard before) made up Ted Barton's quote. But in fact he just brought some decoration to the actual Ted's words: "Alexandra Trusova the Great wins week two of the Grand Prix. Amazing as she has always been". So, I think, we can forgive him.

What I liked in the article is an example at the end of it:

"In the end of the 19th century sir William Price - the chief engineer of UK Royal Post - said: "Americans need telephone and we don't. We have enough postmen". He explained that there is soul in writing and there is no in telephone conversations."

The journalist apparently referred to Trusova's critiques who deny the progress and dream about "queens of the past".

Can't keep up with the "rumours" [emoji23]

Well, it's interresting that after SP you started to blame people for alleged "celebrating", which literally nobody did, while you "can't keep with the rumours", that actually really happened.

She’s so funny :) are team Tutberidze on a mission to win all GP events this season? It’s looking good so far :D

That’s the mentality you have to have. This is why she and her team are so successful. None of that coddling stuff by Tracy or weird energy by Brian

You should read that interview of Tracy where she says she sometimes skates after her skaters telling them to go on because “they can‘t be tired already, come on!“ Or that one K&C with Joseph Phan were Brian actually looked and acted very strict.

Idk why everyone always seems to assume Brian and Tracy are only the nice parents who coddle their skaters, buy them flower crowns every day and dance around the medals they‘ve won. They‘re not going to force anyone to work, obviously, but they helped skaters who had issue with motivation before. (Might be wrong here but didn‘t Javi once say that they had to teach him how to work hard first?) Team TCC, like Sambo, is an elite club where elite athletes train. Of course they seem to have vastly different approaches and different people will prefer different things (I have never made a secret for example that I prefer Team TCC‘s approach) but that’s okay. At the end of the day, everyone (skater as well as parents) has to make their own decisions depending on where they are right now in their careers and personal lives. Both teams are highly successful, however, I don’t think that needs any additional explanation.

Yes, no one commented on it because I actually did. I saw the attempt, didn't feel like waiting for the actual comments. I have limited time for the forum, so I can't always read all threads. Seems like you have plenty though, so thanks for enlightening me. :sarcasm:

They have wifi in Moscow subway system. Including in their rolling stock (metro trains). Apparently they also have wifi-enabled TV panels in those trains where they broadcast news, weather, special announcements, commercials and sometimes important sport live-results. Last summer they live-streamed soccer games during FIFA World Cup 2018.

Sasha Trusova made it!

Sometimes it would be so nice if people would just admit they were wrong about, let's hypothetically say "how evil people are about a skater who moved from Russia to Canada," because in fact they are not so evil. Just like they could admit they were wrong when claiming, lets again hypothetically say "no one is making bad comments about another skater's not gaining benefits from a particular team". Instead of trying to sweep their mistakes under carpet in the way "I have little time so I'm allowed to be wrong."

You’re funny. As far as I can tell, Vandevska was joking. And your comment is so telling on so many levels that I‘m not going into it. But yes, we are all wrong and you alone hold the ultimate truth: The only negative comments ever in this thread and every other thread on planet earth are solely and entirely directed against Team Tutberidze. Happy now?  :console:

I actually did think that people who thought Aliona should change coaches would think otherwise with the most recent improvements. Now that I've read the past week that I missed in her thread, I can see it's just you being ridiculous again, and the talk wasn't even about coaches, but choreographers.

It's also interesting how you can see all the negative comments people are saying about the skaters you care about, and all the rest is just nonsense. Hate spread about Zhenya even in Aliona's thread. Seems selectively keeping your eyes closed works for you.

Why not? It is a historic achievement in sports, a barrier thought impossible to break was broken, and well deserved recognition for Aleksandra and #TeamTurberidzeForProgress.
