2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I thought Maiia Khromykh was there?

Maiisa was 9th after the short (fell on Lz in combo), but had 2nd best skate today (and truly nice skate), after Daria. She ended just half a point behind medal :(
But they both far exceed the juniors in expressivenes and overal quality. When people call they want more maturity in figure skating than I say that in two years when they will be age eligible for seniors, they will have more maturity than most of much older skaters. I don't know why some voices are separating it by just the age.

Against "some countries"? I bet you see.

I see some messed up judging against multiple skaters of multiple nationalities and all disciplines.

The judging of the men's SP was... I think the judges were asleep

Then they must have woken themselves up by getting drunk before judging the ladies

As an American, I agree the judging was pretty shady. I won’t go so far as to say it’s to “take the Russians down” but definitely hold them back to potentially give others an opening to win. Alina’s deduction was just ridiculous in my opinion.

I think shady judging, or to be more precise, stuff that never gets explained is nothing new in figure skating and that the panel was very strict with everyone. Also, no one cares when it happens outside the top 5. It will literally be yesterday's news in just a few hours and will all blow over.

Very happy to see Maiia had a great Free Skate.

Still, I worry about her though. With such fierce competition even just within her own coaching team, her fragility and inconsistency doesn't bode well.

When nobody protests loudly, "mistakes" will soon become a norm. "When people have swallowed it one time, why not to do it again." Mr. Jeroen Prins sends his regards.

Not to mention that I wouldn't be happy if the public space would have been taken only by those who are already celebrating over the "bravery of the tech panel finally calling Alina's flutzes".
Thank you.

Made up fake calls for everyone? Yeah, sure. No, only for Aliona (ur) and Alina (e). Bell's rotation on 3Lz was no better than Aliona's 3A, Bell's edge on 3Lz was no better than Alina's. But she didn't get the same calls. So, no.
Thank you.

Judging seems to be stricter to Russian girls. Looking at Young You's/Rika's score in Canada or Bradie's in the US I don't see any stricter calls. And these are the only ladies who are competitive with the top Russians. Conspiracy theory? Whatever. First Anna at Lombardia's SP, then Liza with "URs", then Sasha with level 2, now Alina with Lze and Alena with UR without UR. Judges are doing what they can, it looks like that. Disgusting.
Thank you.

Anyway, what are the Russian Cup standings so far? I assume Tsibinova has already qualified for RusNats. What are the other main contenders?

To be more precise... the lame man's daughter

Not the most fortunate translation is it

I remember being part of a figure skating Yahoo group (that makes me feel so old) that censored "Slutskaya" automatically and several people were even auto banned for profanity because of it. Awkward

Oh... the post itself had an error

It said Maya LAME

It confused me for a minute

Automatic translations do this kind of thing sometimes. Zhenya is often translated as 'wife', Tarakanova as 'cockroach', Trusova as 'coward'.

And toellop as sheepskin :)

So you are actually saying she should have had 85 points? Come on, now!
You're taking this way too far

Consider that Rika had 81+ in Canada and for me both Alina and Aliona were better.

Oh dear!

Anastasia Cockroach...

I don't think I'll be able to get that out of my head now. Oh god

A lot of people here who cry conspiracy theories against Russian ladies don't remember the fact that for a lot of years since Sochi Olys, a lot of top Russian ladies have been over scored to the moon and back especially in PCS and GOEs. But hey, a few strict calls against them and suddenly, ISU is out to get RusFed. The short program was wild but in a matter of hours it will be history. Move on.

Different competition different judging

I thought skate canada judging was hell bent on giving out low step sequence levels to the majority of skaters but not particularly strict at all with the rest.

We can't say what Rika might have got in France, she was not there.
Chances are she would suffer the wrath of the judges just the same.
