2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I will be honest, the next world or olympic champion will be a girl with multiple quads and clean programs. Like Alina said, her goal is not to compete with them. Sure she wants to stay competitive and keep skating but an injury will mean her career will be over.

Why is this thread called 2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating? Should be called the 2019-20 Zagitova/Medvedeva/has-been bashing, slandering thread or 2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating Gossip.

Where is the gossip on the last pages? We are discussing interviews and public statements, all documented.

Exactly. What’s the point to lose weigh and risking injuries? Alina is still competitive without 3A or quads to stay on the national team and to medal. She already won all the titles.

I just don't see Alina losing six or seven pounds to do quads. This would make her lighter but also weaker.

Plus it’s not healthy. To do quads you need a certain body type like being tiny and light. Alina was training quad before the olympics then she had a grow spur and body change. Her coaches chose to give up to prevent injuries which it’s a wise decision.

And Elizabet got injured, she only competed at Shanghai trophy and has to withdraw from GP competitions.

Once you use the word documented it's like saying checkmate. ;)

Are there any competitions this weekend for the Russian ladies?

Volvo Open in Riga for instance ....

Five day event, all ranks, ages and disciplines.

Noteworthy competitors:
Julia Lang
Yekaterina Ryabova
Viktoriya Safonova
Kseniya Sinitsyna
Anastasiya Shabotova

too bad about lilbet. She got injured but she's tiny compared to Alina. I don't know if she got injured because she was practicing a quad or just because the sport quite honestly is so brutal on the body only that they weigh 80 pounds or Nastya

Alina has the benefit of winning everything important in her career as a junior and senior so she can pick and choose what events she wants to do what exhibition she wants to do and what moves she wants to learn.

I can't imagine Stasya or any of the Nastyas learning quad. They're just too big for it even as small as they are. It's apparently true you need to learn them by 15 or 16 years old or It's Gone with the Wind.

Why cant they send 3 Russian ladies since Finland is so close to Russia and especially Saint Petersburg?

I hope they do well. I am impressed with Shabotova. It's too bad she's with Ukraine and not Russia.

Well do something constructive in here to make this a better place. Who do you want to discuss besides Alina and Evgenia and gossip? The only way to create change is to participate with thoughts and ideas.

I wouldn't mind discussing Sofia S, she will be at CoC with Liza and Anna, she had a rough start to her season but looked a little better (in the FS I think) at her last event.

Also, any news on Kanysheva? Has she competed anywhere since Test Skates? Is she listed on Russian Cup stages or international events? She was very impressive last season, it has been a bit sad not to see her compete recently.

I asked the same thing a few pages/days ago but I don‘t think I got an answer. But I‘d like to know too! Alena was one of my favorites last season and I miss her!

Kanysheva is injured, I think.

I kind of feel like she may be going through puberty - makes sense considering her age. Since her jumps were small to start with, i'm sort of worried and don't want to talk about it to not build up expectations.

I know she was/is but I thought there would be some information by now... Wasn‘t she supposed to compete at a Russian Cup event to qualify for Junior Nationals? Of course if she‘s injured she should heal first!! Health is more important than anything. But I‘m still worried...
