2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

This was a strange competition with harsh judging. Safonova is only 7th with 55.55.
10 PCS less than Tennell and the same score (and less PCS) for a clean program as Saarinen who had a nasty fall. Not to mention 10 points less than Kurakova. How more ridiculous can it get?

Elizaveta Nugumanova had a wonderful short at Warsaw Cup. :yahoo:
She is 3rd with 64.37 points behind Kurakova (66.08) and Tennell (70.10). In my biased opinion Nugumanova should have been in the lead, she got UR on her 3Lo3Lo combo and an ! on the Lutz. Both jumps looked fine to me.

This was a strange competition with harsh judging. Safonova is only 7th with 55.55. Sakhanovich only 6th with 56.62.

It's hard to tell from the edge from the side on the video from Warsaw cup, but one thing I was sure of is that Nugumanova always had a pretty much (or at least close to) a textbook lutz...
Has it been going flat recently?

Well I thought 70 was a bit low for Bradie and she got dinged with a ! and < on her flip so... no unfairness here

Russia Cup Stage 4

1. Viktoria Vasilieva 195.73
2. Anna Frolova 193.61
3. Maria Talalaykina 186.25

I think Vasilieva was really in a class of her own here. She is such a powerhouse.

Talalaykina had a problematic skate where she had to rearrange all her combos. She did a little too well as she added a 12th jump to the Lutz in the end! She was not happy with her skate but was relieved when she saw her score.

It seems the picture is clear now for who goes on to RusNats. It seems Tsibinova, Nugumanova, Gubanova and Talalaykina are clear, and Tarakanova and Frolova as the last two from Stage 5. There is a small chance that Shulskaya and/or Sidorova can kick out Talalaykina but they have to skate really really good for that to happen. And Tarakanova and Frolova needs to deliver in Stage 5 of course...

And if there is any WD's (I hope not!) from RusNats, it seems that Anastasia Gulyakova or Valeria Shulskaya or Anna Sidorova are first in line.

Ah, the glorious new Russian ladies: Shoma Uno, Alexander Samarin and Dmitri Aliev. Will they beat Sasha Trusova at Russian Nationals?
I thought I was in the men's thread this morning.

Liza 2 got shortchanged gee what a surprise. That is normal for a lady skater from St Petersburg.

And you are not biased Jon. Well maybe just a little. ;) But let's be honest there aren't a lot of unbiased posters here.

Will those three girls make rusnats?

What kind of prove is that?

I can prove it. I can prove it just as much as screen shots, endless reviewing of take offs and landings, and all the other subjectivity that goes into edge calls and such.

But I think we will need to discuss in the men’s thread, as we are veering off topic here;)

I think the goal here from Nugumanova is to medal, and she is in a good path to achieve it with even a shot on the silver still.

GOE for Liza were very low: her combo and layback spins should get > +1 GOE always, they were under here both for no reason.

Let's focus on that and less on scores which are always very random at these events.

About Vasilieva: i like her speed, the elements need refinement, jumps included: like the fact she always has to chance direction in her lutz-toe, it's fine but not as worthy of high goe, little things here and there and i'd still like to see a bit more expression throughout the elements, especially in the free.

On that aspect i liked Frolova and Talalaikina more, Frolova has that ballerina-like posture, needs a bit more facial expression maybe, Talalaikina is always into the performance, the rest is a bit messy sometimes but she was great in the short.

Med has a chance to take silver, she may still have a chance to get the third spot at Nationals
She and Zagitova will try to get on podium, a mistake on the vulnerable Scherbakova will be enough.

Zhenya was amazing! That was the performance we were all hoping for!

Sasha is sick but being the tough little cookie she is, did extremely well. Freak fall before starting her program, no biggie, she giggled and shrugged it off.
Wisely dumped the loop combo and had the physical strength to hang on to her 3T with no speed or outflow

Stasya was... oh dear. Her chances of being anywhere near the top Russians is pretty much gone, this season has been a disaster si far. Hoping for redemption in the FS though I'm doubtful.

She was so upset and had a camera shoved right in her tearful face, rude... I know it's called kiss and cry for a reason but that was very unclassy

Well, I'm, exhausted. What a nerve wrecking short that was.

Trusova - Was she a bit overscored here? She had quite a bad combination. And I thought many elements wasn't quite there. Still, it doesn't matter. She will win comfortably tomorrow...

Konstantinova - I was super nervous here. Like Butyrskaya-nervous. And that's not a good thing. This was a bit of a make or break for Stanislava and unfortunately it broke. What happened? She seemed super strong at Aurora Games and was good at Test Skates, but every competition since then has been a bit Sotskova-ish. Like Sotskova, she seems to have lost her jumps. I hope she can rebound a bit tomorrow.

Medvedeva - Again. Supernervous. Smart choice to ditch the Lutz and do the Loop instead. It's less in BV, yes, but it's worth it. She was lucky that Loop wasn't called UR though, it looked so to me in replay. "Finally" she said to BOrser. Yes, finally a clean short! Hopefully she can skate without pressure tomorrow.

I'm still rooting for Bell to get to GPF, but it seems it's not Miyahara that will stop her - it's Medvedeva!

Satnislava wont have enough SB to get a GP spot next season
Sotskova and Stainsilavas name should not be submitted or force retired

Sinitsyna can get 2 spots from these two.

Sorry I had to giggle at misspelling Stanislava twice In two different ways xD

Not sure what you mean about force retired?

Sotskova won't be on the WS list anymore, so she won't get any. Stanislava however, as well as Samodurova will be on the WS list most likely, and the way RusFed supports Stanislava I'd be surprised if she didn't get at least one. Sinitsyna will for sure get 2, probably from Sotskova and Sakhanovich. The problem is for Tarakanova, Vasilieva, and Kanysheva if she somehow recovers and gets to Youth Olympics or Junior Worlds. If Samodurova and Konstantinova only get one each, then two of them can have one spot. But its not looking good for those three.

LOL! I don't think you read my post properly Scott. The ones clear for RusNats from Russian Cup qualifying rounds are Tsibinova, Nugumanova, Gubanova and Talalaykina.
Vasilieva is also clear as she has already qualyfied through JGPF.
Frolova needs to skate the final Stage 5.

I'd bet my money Stasia will get 2 spots again
