Oh. No, don‘t worry, these comments don’t bother me all too much anymore. If you think Zhenya is not happy under Brian and the move was the wrong choice, I will strongly disagree. That’s okay, though, I will just tell you so. But that‘s nothing to get angry or hateful about. I’m annoyed sometimes at this thread and discussions can get.. well, let’s call them passionate. But I don‘t think anybody in here truly hates/dislikes each other so strongly. We‘re not (yet) the Youtube comment section.

It's amazing isn't it, the depth of talent in Russia.
In most other countries she would be on their big international teams possibly as National champion.

She was underscored here imo, but still she would have been a medal contender at Rostelecom. If only.......

I don’t think anyone believes anyone other than Trusova will win this event. The quads will save her no matter who she skates against. At least this year. The real competition will be between the other ladies. I also haven’t heard anything about Sasha being ill, but considering several athletes of this level have skated through illnesses and serious injuries, I don’t see Eteri scaling back her program. She will land her quads and win.

Her quads in practice were much better than her Loop combo attempts, for some reason she just wasn't able to nail them. It was smart that it was changed to a 3T, I can only think of a situation like that as a reason to scale back her program. Say if tomorrow she is struggling with quads, which is unlikely I hope.

Russian is great, it's a language that has so much history, it represents the Slavic ethnicity but also has lots of similarities with other languages. There are very funny facts about the meanings of certain russian words, i've the privilege to know just a few of them.

The one that always keep in my mind is the origin of the word "немцы" which are the germans, and that is completely different from the russian word for Germany which is "Германия".

From what i've been told, the origin comes from 17th century: Peter the Great who wanted to evolve Russia as a country bringing it closer to European countries (after living in Netherlands and learning there about shipbuilding) and he very much invited european families to live in Moscow to bring that european culture.

Apparently among those families, the germans never quite socialized with the russians, they were always mute and the russian word for mute is "немой"
and that's why they are "немцы".

For me more than those trivia also the sound often determine my interest in studying a language: for instance i tried to study the german language and i dropped a month after, because i didn't like how it sounds.

I haven't heard that she was ill, but she looked under the weather today. Like someone who has a very bad cold or respiratory illness. I do hope she drops the first quad-it isn't necessary right now, why not play it safe so you get to the final? Then go for broke.

Has anyone noticed how good her 2A was? Much much better than before.
I wonder if this means her 3A is progressing nicely?

It was HUGE today. The lutz loop at the end always scares me, so I'm glad she took it out.

I am loving Zhenya's programs this season. I thought after last year's debacle I won't see her skate good again. It's nice Brian at least has learn his mistakes. His approach last season was inappropriate to say the least. They tried so much to change her style she looked unrecognizable. Glad to see her bringing her brand of skating back and not become another Wilson project to reincarnate his former star client. If only Eteri would be nice enough to have Sasha simplify her program and let former favorite sneak in the GPF.

I think Mishaminion was talking about the content of the language used in the YouTube comments rather than the sound or writing of it. Like nasty comments about the skaters.

I'm trying to learn Russian actually and I've wondered about the Russian words for Germany versus a person from Germany so thanks for the explanation!

On topic - Zhenya was awesome, Sasha was great to watch and I didn't think Stasya did that badly, but with so much depth in the Russian Ladies I can see why she was disappointed in herself.
