2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Alina can still make it. We already know that Alena and Rika will battle for the gold so even if she skates two clean programs, Alina will still be third. Like she said in an interview, she used to pop her short in her olympic year but deliver in the free.
I know she’s upset and will do her best tomorrow. No matter what, she’s still beautiful to watch.

I'm wondering if she's planning to eventually add 3A+3T as her combo jump in the short? Or would this only increase her bv if its in the second half? I know she just set a record for her SP, but in the future gaining as much of an advantage in the short will help her remain competitive with Sasha.

No, doing a 3A3T in the short would actually hurt her BV, because she can't do the 3A as the solo axel jump if she does it in the combo. If she did 3A3T she would have to do a solo 2A, which would just hurt her BV overall. The BV of 3A, 3Lz, 3F3T is much higher (and less risky) than the BV of 2A, 3Lz, 3A3T.

Doing 3A3T in the short (Alysa, Sofia, Sofia) is only worthwhile in juniors, where you don't have the option to do the 3A as the solo axel jump and you have to do the 2A anyway. The second these kids move up to seniors they'll be moving their 3A to the solo axel jump.

(If anything, junior girls doing 3A3T as their combo jump via a loophole in the SP requirements just shows how silly it is that junior girls still aren't allowed to do solo 3A in the short.)

this is 100% on my bucket list. if she ever attends skate america, skate canada or worlds near me i am absolutely making it a point to go. as fast and light as she appears on camera, i can't imagine how good she is in real life

Am I going to make you jealous by saying I got to see her live already? :p

Anyway, it was her first event last season and her programs weren‘t exactly refined yet but still... even when she took the warm-up it was obvious that she was not skating like anybody else. Her skating skills, speed and presence are even more impressive live. I dragged a friend of mine who knows nothing of skating alongside to watch and after Aliona’d finished her program, she asked me: “Did she win the Olympics this year? And if so, why does she compete in a competition like this where tickets are free?“ When I explained she wasn’t even old enough for seniors, she couldn‘t believe it. But I‘d known then already that Aliona was something special. I‘m so happy to follow her journey and hope she competes for a very long time. :)

I think it‘s more than likely Alina will make it. She knows how to come back from a mistake, the exact same thing happened to her in GP Helsinki last year. She will focus tomorrow and deliver a clean free, I‘m pretty sure of that. I don‘t see much of an issue for her to get the bronze. As for silver or gold... it would take a lot to win the gold but Alina‘s best FS score is still very high. So if someone makes mistakes and she is 100% clean, she could have a shot for the silver alright. I‘m not hoping for someone to make a mistake, though, so just hoping for a clean skate for all ladies.

I love her spins and thought she‘s growing into that program. I’m still no fan of the music but she’s starting to interpret it nicely. Kudos for getting level 4 as well, shows that she didn‘t let the mistake get to her. Overall, though, she‘ll be fine.

Congratulation to Alena for her SP and WR. Amazing skate, nice jumps , spins, everything in high quality. Keep it up!

Congratulations to Daniil.

Maybe among the youngest with such a title?

I don't know who will win the NHK, because Kihira is an excellent skater and she could still win.
What I know is how much joy it gave me once again to see Alena skating.
So, it's only for your sake that I invite you to abandon yourselves without reserve to the heartbreaking beauty of her skating.
Do not resist, even if you are fans of other athletes, let yourself be enchanted.
Forget basic values, bonuses, scores and enjoy a unique experience, because you don't know if in your life you ever get the chance to see such a skater again.

It seems to me that Daniil is 1 day behind.

Thanks for the detailed info!

Where does that leave Dudakov, Sergey Viktorovich? The hard working trainer behind many of the jumps and elements the skaters have learned?

Gleikhengauz may be 'the storefront' of #TeamTutberidzeForProgress, but this team is much more than the sum of its parts, and each part deserves some recognition?

Tutberidze and Dudakov already have this honorary title.

Firstly Congratulations to Aliona for a great skate today and the WR. Second I feel bad for Alina for the missed combo. I feel like maybe the plan B should be to do a 3F+3T if she misses the combo on the Lutz instead of 3F+3Lo which is a more high risk combo? Im guessing Alina herself probably wants to do the Lo combo but and takes great pride in being able to do it (Like Sasha) but sometimes you have to play samrt and know when to back down (the 3lz+3Lo can still be plan A) which is something I think Eteris team is usualy verry good at.

Thirdly because im a neard and didnt realy understand why Aliona had 6pts higher score than Rika (Still think the placements are correct but maybe the gap could have been closer?) I decided to do a breakdown of the scores.

So Aliona vs Rika element by element:
Element Base GOE
3A +0.0 +0.11
3F+3T +0.95 +0.68 (base difference due to backloading)
3Lz/3Lo +0.51 +2.15
FCSp +0.0 +0.14
CCoSp +0.0 +0.35
LSp +0.0 +0.0
StSq +0.0 +0.05

PCS category difference
SS -0.06
TR +0.12
PE +0.11
CO +0.03
IN +0.0

So in conclusion Aliona gathers up a lot of points by having higher GOE on all her elements. And of course Rika is hurt by not having the 3Lz, especially when she misses the 3Lo landing.

edit. I missed the factoring for the PCS originaly but now its updated and correct I hope
