2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

random question because i can't find the thread about NBC sports gold...are they only showing seniors this weekend? and is the ISU JGP youtube channel showing juniors or will everything be on the unfortunately geoblocked ISU channel?

In the past the juniors were on the JGP youtube channel for the final, I would assume it is the same this year because that is the whole point of that channel.

I'm off to Torino now :)
Just wanted to remind you all that it is not hard to get a volunteering position even in major international events. So if there is a competition in your area and you have the time- go for it!!

I hope you have lots of fun and you get to see all your favorite skaters.

Eteri's juniors are little overshadowed by 4A, do not forget on them in Torino. Kamila, Dasha, Daniil, they are going too.

They should have arrived by now, training starts tomorrow already. Torino isn't at altitude, but it will be warmer than in snowy Moscow. So nobody catches any colds :-)

oh no hope she's ok and it's nothing serious.

bracing myself for those who will once again share their hope for her retirement...

What I don't understand how far down the list is Leonova? Why is it she got no GP and is like vanished. SHe got a GP last year and didn't do that badly if I recall. AT least we should see her in some challengers. Didn't she score just under 200 at some competition. I know Russia has a lot of talent.

Very sad about Maria; I too hope it isn't serious although it must be pretty serious if she is withdrawing three weeks before Nats. I can only imagine the pressure these girls are going through. To think the current world and olympic champion is an underdog to make her on Federation's team. And the Olympic silver medallist and two time world champ and current no. 3 lady is all but forgotten. Only in Russia. Maybe Liza can make things interesting with an added quad.

Leonova is not on any replacement list as she didn't compete at Russian Cup qualifiers at all. Why she didn't patricipate I don't know, she could easily have q'd to RusNats if she had entered.

I'm not surprised about Sotskova. I kind of suspected it. Is it officially confirmed?

THank you. This is kind of sad. No money for challenger series. She would be the top Australian, British, Italian, Canadian, Dutch and maybe even French skater. How can something like this happen ( a bit Fumie Sugurish possibly????) ? I didn't know that she didn't do the Russian qualfiers. This is so odd. But I guess she wouldn't be asked to do shows with Zagitova and Medveda leading the way in shows (for now until th eend o this season when the 3A's take over. It just seems "odd" ? or "wrong"? a decent skater and former world silver medallist is left in this situation.

Alena Leonova on her health and missing comps
"Leonova also partially referred to the damage. “I have never missed the Russian championships once,” said the 29-year-old skater. “This year I didn’t want to get to the stages of the Grand Prix series, but I didn’t really want to get through the cups, this is my decision, and the coach made it. Plus, a minor knee injury crippled me, I did an MRI, serious loads are forbidden, preparation for the competition cannot go at full strength. I had no problems with my knees, but I decided to check, I’m not 15 years old, the loads are serious - 25 years on ice so well that's nothing serious. "

Leonova also spoke about her future in sports. "I miss the end of this year, the next one will depend on funding. I would like to go on a ride in B-series tournaments or challengers, but not everything depends on me," she said"

You could also look at it like she was very fortunate to have an opportunity to travel the world doing GP events for 10+ years, skate in an Olympics, and even get a WSM and a JWGM. She might be one of the best skaters from those countries now, but I doubt most of them would have had the resources to get her as close to the top as she got.

Sotskova is out of RusNats due to health reasons, that means Talalaykina is in.

I hope Masha is okay and Stasya is too for that matter since she pulled out of a Challenger. The situation could be that they've given so much to the sport over 10 or 15 years from the time they were very little girls that it may be taking its toll on them mentally and physically. Figure skating is such an incredibly demanding sport. I commend all the skaters.
