2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

And she competed for how long and was able to grow artistically? Aliona said she‘ll skate to age 20-21 max because after that there‘s just new girls the older ones won‘t be able to keep up with technically. For me, that‘s not a sport for adults and I do not enjoy it like this but it is what it is. Some will like it and they have every right to do so. But people have a right to dislike it as well. I‘m overall not happy about the direction the sport is taking and I‘ve said so on multiple occasions. But I accept others who feel differently. I personally have more or less got used to the way things are right now and I intend to enjoy the girls while they last. The skating was amazing today and I hope to see something similar tomorrow. That‘s all.

We do not know what will happen in the future. I accept people have opinions and are entitled to them but the whining and complaining is annoying and pointless.
It wont change anything, I don't think the age limit will be raised or even should be when it has been at its current and previously not whined this much about level for so long.

This GPF ladies event is incredible!

Raising the age to 18 to officially say they're adult women would remove every single one of those skaters from this final apart from Bradie Tennell.

The USA always loved their female champions in gymnastics and skating young, as young as possible, for the cutesy factor and the $$$$ this brings.

exactly, if it was all Americans on top of "ladies" skaters, none would be complaining about their age.

Finally caught up on the seniors!

Alena is my absolute favorite and I'm so thrilled that she's leading. Her short program is just perfection in every sense of the word. Another new world record and completely deserved!

I will say that Alina completely surprised me, I was NOT expecting her to skate as well as she did. That was one of the best lutz-loops I've ever seen her do, the loop had so much pop! She was absolutely stunning today and I'm so happy for her.

Anna was just beautiful as well. Definitely one of my favorite dresses of the season! I've never been completely sold on her short but she performed it so well today.

I really don't think it was smart for Sasha to go for the triple axel today, it really didn't seem like it was competition ready and it absolutely buried her. Of course, we have to take "buried" with a grain of salt because she's doing five quads tomorrow, but still. Obviously far from her best, but I have no doubt she'll come back.

The free skate tomorrow will be such a battle and I can't wait! Sadly I won't be able to watch live again but I can't wait to see who ends up on top of the podium! :yahoo:

I sorry, but as an American who has been watching skating since 1971, this is simply wrong.

And if you would like to come to the US Ladies thread, I would be pleased to discuss. :)

Don’t know about gymnastics, not a sport I care about.

.... by the end of next season we'll all be bored by Aleksandra, Alyona and Anna dividing each and every medal between themselves ....

Maturity was valued in the early 1990s at least, with Kerrigan considered the height of womanly maturity. Lol

I didn't see a great deal of outrage over Alysa being allowed to compete at Senior Nationals at... was she 12 or 13? Either one and she won.

But the USA needs a skater like Alysa to compete with the Russians so...good for them

That's were you are wrong at least for me, I am not American, and do not care that much about them besides Alysa Liu. I would say this for all skaters.

You can have your opinion but girls of 15 and 16 have won major titles plenty of times in the past regardless of how long they stuck around after. Why complain about it now?
Mabye because at this time iwasnt watching figure skating? I also didn't say they didn deserve to win. I said it is a shame that the sport is going into a direction where as soon as you are past those ages you are considered to old and not good enough anymore. For me while they are great at 15 and 16 artistry grows with age, as we can see here with alina, for me she is now really maturing and growing artistically. And at 17 she is considered almost too old?

Because me for example do not really follow American figure skaters? While I like Alysa I didn't watch her performances until his year.

Why lol, there is nothing to laugh about there :) In any event, as I posted earlier, this is more appropriate for the US Ladies thread.

Anyone who is claiming hypocrisy obviously hasn’t spent much time there. Or at least hasn't read my posts; I’m crushed:laugh:

What? No one was more popular than Michelle Kwan at age 22 when she won her 5th World championship. America embraces its champions no matter what their ages.

I‘m not saying that raising the age limit would necessarily be the right solution. I do consider it worth thinking about (not 18, though), I won’t deny that, but I simply and honestly do not know enough overall to say whether such a change of rules would be successful. And that is beside the point as well.

The only thing I said was that I, personally, do not like the direction the sport is taking. And I only did that because I see comments telling people to stop whining all the time when there‘s often not even much whining included. If you all who value technical prowess the most suddenly got the impression that only artistry mattered, you‘d at least grumble a bit about it as well. So, I think we‘re allowed that bit at least. Especially given how much “whining“ there is all the time about the judging.

I didn‘t even intend to comment on that issue today because I really enjoyed the SP (I generally tend to do that because there‘s no quads lol) and liked almost all of the girls‘ performances. But I felt like these comments have become a bit restricting and it bothered me. I think respectfully stating one‘s opinion is different from whining and it‘s different from “under/overscored, fire the judges!!“ as well. Just my two cents, though.

Why the toxicity exactly tonight?

After this festival of beauty and athleticism, I thought of writing a long post, but then realised I can summarise it in a sentence. How privileged, how lucky we are to be figure skating fans at this day and age! Really grateful to these amazing skaters for sacrificing so much and working so hard to create few precious minutes of perfection!

Has sasha landed 4 quads in competition? She only landed three at ondrej nepala and has fallen on the 4S at her gp's

And I merely stated the sport is not only just going in that direction recently. It has been that way more than not for quite some time.

Alina is not too old or not good enough and I don't know who is saying that, unless they don't like her and want to be rude. Alina is reigning WC and just placed second in the GPF SP.

Alyona is just a year younger than Alina and has incredible quality and artistry, and she's beating Alina hands down. It isn't really about age at all but ability.
Alina could have trained and won with quads at 15 if she could have, right?
Zhenya could have done it if she had the ability age 15?

Sasha and Anna to a degree are a whole new breed, as are the younger girls coming up behind them, like Kamila and even younger ones than that.

I always remember her whining and sulking at Disney World to Mickey Mouse that's all

One fantastic thing about the current generation of skaters is that there doesn't seem to be any diva like antics amongst them.

They seem to be very lovely, well spoken girls who are in control of their emotions.

Yes, they are mature for their years and humble.

Yet they do have sass, Sasha taking cameras off annoying journalists who wave them in her face hehe!
I like a bit of sass but I find Diva-like behaviour uncouth and immature.
