who will be the substitute?
Anastasia Gracheva (who was fourth in line, chosen over Anna Sidorova).

Anna obviously stands out here, but Sasha is surprisingly good, she matches the music, not just movements. Aliona probably needs to try some other style, she could do well in lyrical dance IMO.

That video underlines that Anna is really the most musical and natural dancer there (imo).
I wonder if Vasilieva has problems with growth spurts? I remember thinking at the JGPF, that it was very uncharacteristic of her to miss both her Lutzes.
I just hope that this doesn't affect her chances of getting GPs next season.
So, all four Anastasias will be at RusNats after all. That looked very unlikely a couple of months ago.

Anna is the real standout in the videos of that dance - she is not just musical, she moves more fully and better than the others. You can even see it in the opening steps, when the other girls are just stepping sideways, but Anna is lifting her feet higher and placing them more sharply and cleanly, with the rhythm, than anyone else.
https://ibb.co/bdwwxk9Alina’s Europeans SP from 2017-2018 showed up on my youtube suggestions and i rewatched it. It caught my attention the fact that she has an inside edge on her lutz-loop combo in here, although at the Olympics her edge was outside. So I guess Alina wasn’t that consistent with her edge since that time, and what’s happening with her edge now it’s not just a “post-puberty” problem. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Alina fan, and I’m not trying to diss her, I just wanted to discuss technique in here. What do you guys think?

YOG is only 3 weeks away, Vasil'yeva hopefully will compete there.
It appears to me that she just loves performing on and off the ice for her own sake, that's why she is fully invested to every movement. In addition to that comes also pure talent and musicality. What a star! Of course, everyone else did very well too. Sasha has improved tremendously, hats off to Zheleznyakov for his achievement.
Oh I completely forgot about that! Well, I hope she's not injured. I wonder who is the 1st alternate if Vasilieva won't go? Wikipedia had Tarakanova listed before but that has been deleted now...
I remember to have read there is a new ballet teacher hired.
Galina Podtykova, a former Bolshoi ballerina, is the new*** ballet teacher in TeamTut
*** well, not exactly new - she worked in Khrustalny in 2014-15, took a maternity leave afterwards.

In my opinion, they have better use of their upper body and arms. (I once attended a talk with Polina Semionova, who trained at the Bolshoi school, and even she said she wished she had trained at the Vaganova academy instead.) That is one advantage the skaters in St Petersburg have--I seem to recall that Yuri Smekalov from Mariinsky choreographed a program for Liza T..?
