2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I disagree. Lutz was ur and double footed, no transition into flip, fall... She clearly isnt't in a competitive shape-have a closer look. But she doesn't need to now. She deserved to enjoy herself a little as every 18 year old women/girl

Of course she's not in competition shape, she's been doing show-skating, given that Sambo got Shcherbakova doing all her triples and learning quads a year after breaking her leg then they can get Zagitova back into competition-shape by the time September rolls around for test skates if she decides to come back.

I haven’t seen this posted anywhere, but here is a 3lutz-3loop from Nastya Gubanova

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7bh6EipqRQ/

It looks like is has good speed and flow. The lutz was pretty big too.

Thanks I needed that. ;)

Nice to see her moving around the ice like she used to. I actually think she used to do these moves n her free skate last season and the season before if I'm not mistaken. Nastya must be feeling well enough and in form enough to do it in practice. Hopefully she brings it to the Russian Cup final. But i's really hard to know where she's at because we almost never see Nastya skate anywhere. I mean she skated in a couple of the Russian Cup series events and a local St. Petersburg event and Russian Nationals and that's it. It's hard to grow and improve when you compete so little.

I hope she's through puberty. But Stasya says she is still going through puberty and she's almost 20. So who knows.

Great that she hasn't given up.
In reality it's amazing Nastya hasn't given up after being pushed to the side so many times. Talented girls younger than she is retire these days in Russia. It's very sad the pressure these girls are under. and there are more girls coming next year and the year after to put the pressure on the current 16 17 and 18 year old Russinas. I did not see this coming six or seven years ago. But it's here and it's reality.

She had that combination last year in her free program, but I haven't seen her doing it this season.

Looks like she's back in form!

I would like to see her do this in the Russian Cup final if she's confident with it. We have to remember Nastya or did not start the season on time she had the coaching change and then I had inflammation or something and did not do test skates for the second year in a row. I think they're only event the rest of this season will be the Russian Cup final that hopefully she'll be ready to go for test kids in September.

So much talk that Sasha was "lucky" because Evgenia and Alina could've beaten her at nationals. But there's a difference between could and would. Let's remember that Sasha beat Alina at Japan Open and Evgenia at Rostelecom. Not really fair to compare Sasha's worst to Evgenia and Alina's better skates. Sasha bombed for her standards but let's not forget both Evgenia and Alina have bombed before too. It can go any way on any given day. If we're going by past results, Sasha has not lost to either of them this season so there's no reason to assume she wouldn't have made the podium even if both had competed. What a way to disregard someone's achievements: bringing up an alternate universe where others skate their best but Sasha's still skates her worst.

Could Evgenia and Alina have beaten Sasha at nationals? Sure, anything can happen. Would they have? No one knows. But the fact remains that neither have won against her when they did meet this season; Sasha won both times.

Agree, in the hypothetical world that they did beat her at Nationals for 3rd place it would have been with her having her worst skate and them having their best skate just based on her higher BV, and 3rd spot (maybe 2nd as well - not sure of the full rule) to Europeans and Worlds is based on the council decision - they could have been left off the Worlds team. Europeans wasn't such a big deal because there is no real strong competition for whatever combination of the 3 Russians to go; Worlds however Rika has the triple axels and is attempting a quad, Young You is training a quad and triple axel, we've not seen her attempt the quad in competition and the triple axel is not all that consistent, but its enough of a threat that had Zagitova or Medvedeva gotten 3rd place at Nationals that the council still could have decided to replace them because for them to place over Rika (and potentially Young) is if she messes up - whereas we've seen both Trusova and Rika have mistakes on their SP and FS at the same competition and Trusova came out on top.

I don't think Sasha spent any time worrying about Alina and Evgenia. She blew by both of them in the Grand Prix season. Sasha went to Europeans Sasha is going to worlds and they are not.

For more than a year (the last time FJGP Shcherbakova), none of 3A lost to anyone other than their 3A friends. As long as this situation works as it is now, all these conversations “if” are just fantasies and chatter.

Correct. Unfortunately it only makes them vulnerable as soon as everyone else learns to fight specifically them.
Same content like the one of Kostornaya and Scherbakova had been demoed more than once.

Nobody can compete with Trusova yet, but she's mostly competing with herself and Wikipedia and unlikely going to win the gold of any Major, at least now.
But being a perpetual underdog helps sometimes.

Of course there are many competitions going on at the same time every week all over Russia.

Today, at the Chaykovskaya Cup in Moscow, Viktoriya Safonova will compete hors de concours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMCJcj1bOrM

I suppose she wants to test herself since her competition in the European Championships wasn't of her usual level.

Viktoriya did very well 63.45 but got her Combination Spins invalidated? Viktoriya is listed as a Sambo-70 student for this occasion?

Kamila Sultanmagomedova also competed and got 62.44, only two days before getting on the overnight train to Saransk. Originally only a reserve for the Junior National Championships, she now is added to the competitors list, but choose not to abstain from her local start at her own club.

Information from Rozanov (Sport Express interview)

1.Petrosyan also is trying 4T and is expected to land it soon.

2. Akatyava,Petrosyan,Valieva, Usacheva and Kromikh are going to nationals.

3. Didn't give exact answer about Zagitova's training, only said 'she is training'.

4. 3A weren't in their perfect shape at Euros so team doesn't consider their performance to be alarming.

5. Eteri thinks that coach should be able to multitask.

Sof'ya Samodelkina: “I already have a quadruple Toeloop”

12-year-old skater of CSKA Sof'ya Samodelkina in an interview with SE spoke about her relationship with rivals from the group of Eteri Tutberidze and her plans for the upcoming Russian Championship in Saransk, February 6 to 8.

As the winner of the Championship of Moscow, Samodelkina, who performs the triple Axel - is one of the favourites of the tournament.

In general, I had a good skating run at the championship of Moscow, I am satisfied, but there were minor flaws that need to be worked on before the Championship of Russia. There was an exclamation mark on the Lutz, an error on the Rittberger.

-- You have a triple Axel, but nowadays there is a stir about quadruples. You learn them?

- Yes, a quadruple Toeloop. In training, it's already turning out sometimes.

-- I saw how during a skating run (of Petrosyan) you sang along to Tsoya's “Kukushka” . Do you like the Kino band?

- I like the song rather, I just heard a familiar melody. I can’t say that I love the band, sometimes I can listen, but this is definitely not what I usually listen to. Usually more modern music.

-- How do you manage to combine successful performances in figure skating with school?

- We switched to home schooling, family education. I don’t have time to go to school. A month passes, I study the material, then I come and hand over a certain section. So far it turns out. But I rather like being at the rink. (laughs)

-- Are you going to the junior Championship of Russia?

- Yes, I will try there to perform my best skating runs of the season.

-- You are in high competition with Khrustalniy, are you friends in life?

- Yes, we get along. Here before the competition at Moskvich we even played palls and generally forgot that we were rivals. It was great.

This can sound little frustrating for the other skaters when you know that any of the 3A performing "not her best" is still nearly unbeatable for the others.

Inna Goncharenko: Shcherbakova added in the projection of her image, unlike Trusova

MOSCOW, Feb 1 - RIA Novosti, Anatoliy Samokhvalov. Two-time Champion of Russia in figure skating Anna Shcherbakova progresses in the artistic plan during the season, unlike compatriots Alyona Kostornaya and Aleksandra Trusova, merited trainer of Russia Inna Goncharenko told RIA Novosti.

The Russians won the podium at the European Championships in Austrian city of Graz. Kostornaya won Gold, Shcherbakova won Silver, and Trusova won Bronze. At the conclusion of the short program, coach Daniil Gleikhengauz noted the progress of Trusova in the choreographic presentation of the program.

“ To Gleikhengauz this may be visible, but I didn’t see any special progress in this plan. I didn’t notice anything new. I also didn’t see anything new in the image of Kostornaya. But Anya Shcherbakova really added in the presentation of the image and in it's performance. And even one broken an element in her free program did not blur the overall pleasant impression of her performance, " Goncharenko said over the phone.

In her free program, Trusova entered three quadruple jumps, and not five, as in previous tournaments, after which she said that the presence of five such elements favourably affects her psychology.

“ She wants to say that if she jumps five, then messes up two and achieves her result? Speaking as a trainer, I note that everything needs to be done in the program, and not selectively. So far we've seen that the athlete could not cope with the weaker content, as applied to herself of course. Sasha’s ambitions are wonderful. But sometimes you need to restrain yourself. Her coaches know better, and the athlete, I think, should obey the coach, " Goncharenko emphasised.

The World Championships will be held March 18-21 in Montreal.

“ At the European Championships, we did not see stable skating in all three girls. This suggests that they need to learn a lesson from this situation. They need to approach the World Championships in a more acceptable physical condition. But, judging by the words of Eteri Georgiyevna, a conclusion will be made. Let’s hope so, because all three, of course, have the power to approach the World Championships fully equipped, to perform smartly there and win the entire pedestal, " the specialist summed up.

Leonova: Trusova needs to restore her moral strength going into the World Championships

MOSCOW, Feb 2 - RIA Novosti, Anatoliy Samokhvalov. Medalist in the championships of Russia and Europe, Aleksandra Trusova, needs to be put in order in order to fight for the Gold at the World Championships, said Silver medalist of the 2012 World Championship Alyona Leonova.

The World Cup will be held March 18-21 in Montreal. This season, Trusova won the Bronze medal in the Grand Prix Final, the championships of Russia and Europe, losing at these starts to compatriots Anna Shcherbakova and Alyona Kostornaya. In the Grand Prix Final, the skater included five quadruple jumps in the free program, of which she completed three, in the National Championship - four quadruples (made one), in the European Vhampionship - three quadruples (made one). Trusova herself said that she did not want to perform less than five quadrupe jumps in her free program.

“ On the other hand, at the Russian Championship she had more than four quads declared, and she managed only one ”, Leonova said over the phone. “ It’s difficult to understand which option is better. I think that the girl is just mentally tired, she needs to breathe out and to approach the World Championships with new powers. I recall the feelings with which she skated at the beginning of the season. I think in this case she will master three and five quadruples. "

“ In any case, she will be able to fight for gold, but only if she regains her moral strength ”.
