I personally think it’s a mental/sentimental reason. His Origin performance at Nationals may have been weighing in his mind and the Otonal-Origin combination is now tied to the heavy feeling of losing. I don’t think he’s switching to win per se - as in, not because it will gain him points but more to get the bad feelings out, set a new pace for himself. There wasn’t enough time between Nationals and 4CC to train for a new program so I guess Chopin & SEIMEI which are ingrained in his body was the way to go.

Still, he got a personal best at Skate Canada and landed 5 quads at the GPF with Origin. And had three SPs that were 109+.
If not, probably you've watched Origin and Otonal. Did you honestly notice ANY stagnation?
