2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I hope that Sinitsyna is able to pull it off somehow. She is the best of the eligible aside from Kamila and Daria in my opinion. Such a shame about the mistake.

No 'bad dog' pat on the head from Panova (on screen at least)? No doubt harsh words will be said backstage, because against the formidable opponents from Khrustalniy, Sinitsyna cannot afford any mistakes.

The coaching council will have to make a decision most likely. And there are still Russian Cup to decide?

Regarding 'not good enough'... I think 3A have upped the standards way, way, way too high... it's obvious that 3A's case is a fluke, there cant be 3 superstars like that in every 2 years, even Eteri isn't that good

Russian cup drama last year had several causes:

1. Konstantinova bombing Euros

2. Medvedeva being a fed favorite (at least back then)

3. Liza missing RusNats due to Fly.

Assuming Valieva doesn't have horrible skate tomorrow, there is nobody who can generate half the support from fed Medvedeva did last year, also there is no competition to bomb  and anybody who may be going there is competing here.

So I don't think chances that somebody finishing out of top 3 among eligible athletes going to the worlds are realistic.

Only Kamila gave her very best and still, it was one the best ladies' short programs I've ever seen.
1 poor skate, 2-3 skates with mistakes and 14-15 fantastic performances. :clapper:

Akatieva looking more and more majestic on the ice, Usacheva would have had the skate of her life artistically, if not that unusually poor landing on her axel. Samodielkina started with a BANG, but got a little bit distracted in the second half, Khromykh's lines are to die for, but she needs to make that lean beautiful body land the jumps.
Petrosyan was delightful, big artistic talent and competitive character, Moroz improved very much, I could totally see her worth being stolen by Eteri and polished to the highest level. ;)

If the free is 80% as great as the short, we'll be blessed.

Her main opponents for the spot are Frolova and Khromykh. She can finish off the podium and as long as she is ahead of them she will go. She certainly has a “body of work” argument if RusFed was to consider other factors.

Indeed, by quality and 'body of work' Sinitsyna should a prime candidate. She just cannot seem to get her act together when it matters and FFKKR presidium and coaching council will evaluate all contenders for the team very strictly.
There are some formidable competitors from outside of Russia, and if medaling chances are the most important to FFKKR, Sinitsyna has had a few competitions in a row with the short program not very much in her favour. Counting on a come back in the free skate (like in Nationals) is a huge uncertainty.

Russian Cup in March will probably be the decider.

Yes, she is only three points behind Khromykh and she can make up that. But it is not a good situation for her. She needs to be squeaky clean.

Eteri's young one with the spins reminds me so much of Alina.

Do you mean Adelia Petrosian, who went in the first group? (Black dress, I think.) And was in 1st for a while? She was amazing. The SP this morning was the first time I've seen her skate. She wowed, for sure. Such attack on her spins.

No, I searched around on Google and realized I meant Kamila Valieva.

IMO Kamila does not remind me of anyone. she is very unique and has her own distinct style. nobody else spins like she does, nor has the flexibility. she doesn't remind me of any other skater anywhere, and i think that's really special.

She certainly has her own qualities. Her body is very similar to a younger Alina's, though.

So, tomorrow in the novices and juniors we might see again some ultra-si: Samodelkina 3A-3T and 3A solo, quads from Valiyeva, Akat'yeva, Khromykh, Berestovskaya and ??

Some of this young girls might surprise us, since at least I haven't been able to follow all of them over the year ....
There were a few girls with very powerful jumps ...

Start list for tomorrow: https://www.fsrussia.ru/results/1920/junnat1920/ENG/SEG004.HTM, Baranova will want to redeem herself, the only girl that fell.
Top flight, all of the Khrustalyats and Samodelkina, surprised how well newest of all Adeliya Petrosyan held her own. Akat'yeva is actually the youngest

I'm expecting fireworks, but Khromykh needs to get consistent on her triple combos before trying quads in competitions tbh.

There aren't any videos on the FSRussia YouTube page... does anyone know if/where we can see the videos?

If anyone I would say she reminds of Lipnitskaya (probably mostly due to flexibility) but with better jumps. Even if her Lutz and flipp still scare me (less so now than last year though)
