2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Estonian coach and former skater Anna Levandi-Kondrasheva stated her opinion about EC:
- EC starts after 3rd place for next 20 girls.

So, I thought if ISU can move Russian FS out of the Europenean scope? Let RusFed decide who they want sending to participate in WC without going to EC?
Let the Europenean skaters compete for medals...

This quote is from Eva-Lotta's and Anna Levandi's video interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZxqZ8Cp2ig

But there are Russian skaters with good technique that almost everyone can agree on:
Polina Tsurskaya
Alena Kanysheva 😭
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva (flip is sometimes wonky in combo but solo is usually fine)
Anastasia Tarakanova

Right?

Also Alyona Kostornaya. ;)
As for the others - Tsurskaya and Kanysheva retired. And Tarakanova and Tuktamysheva are not really treated as "the top" - Shcherbakova and Trusova are. My favourite jump of Tarakanova:

Tuktamysheva:

(Sasha Cohen, exquisite as she was, also did not have perfect technique, just very good technique.)

Aliona is my favorite skater, but I left her off the list because although her technique has improved greatly, it’s still not as “textbook” as the skaters I mentioned + Rika. Her toe pick, pre rotation, lutz edge and leg wrap are a lot better compared to last season, but now her flip edge is too shallow for some (and her lutz also isn’t deep enough for some). Hopefully she will continue improving it though! I think she can. Her technique is still better than many skaters even though it’s not perfectly textbook.

I don't get Ice Dance remark, Do you mean to ask if Maiia is going to get injured ?!

If past history is any indication of future,Eteri doesn't tell skaters to leave outright, but tells them to skate alongside people on par with them skill-wise(Irina Viner is known for same handling of out-of-shape athletes, for example she famously told Alina Kabaeva 'You are performing like a kid, so go and train with kids'), so if her performance doesn't dramatically go down in quality why should Eteri force her to quit?!

I think Maiia's Career depends on her height much more than JW medal, She is already 'too tall' for FS standards and is likely to be 170+ how she will handle that height is real question.

Irina Viner tends to take a bit more care on their athletes once they become Olympic Champion, also thanks to her ties with the government through the husband, etc. If you watch the documentary "Over the limit" Irina Aleksandrovna says far worse things to her athletes all the time, i kinda hope Eteri Georgievna doesn't but at this top level it's possible.

Besides that i see a bit of similarities, that's why i said it's possible in 3-4 years Eteri could select the national team for ladies figure skating with pretty much most of the skaters coming from her group or other groups that are sort of affiliated with Sambo70, or other coaches there (Khromykh and Usacheva came from Anna Tsareva)

Technically Pogorilaya was also too tall for FS but she stopped growing after 14-15 so it's possible it's the same here, we'll have to wait and see. I just hope her career doesn't depend on this JW performance cause i'm not sure she even has a chance of medalling, much like last year where judges sent the message loud and clear they wanted Ting Cui for the bronze and they gave it to her anyway despite the fall.

Let the Europenean skaters compete for medals...

The only way Europeans impacts Worlds is if someone bombs at Europeans or gets injured. And that proposition is ridiculous, so what they give out 6 medals?

6 low profile medals? Easy. But the current situation rules the EC is important from ISU point of view. RusFed cannot discard EC totally as ISU immediately rules them out.

Regarding those Russian skaters with a good technique...
I'm here to ask if this means having "good outdated" technique is more important than having "not-so-good-but-modern" technique?
Would Trusova forfeit her quads she may easily gain in PCS in some short time. Her PCS would be higher dramatically. But that mediocre BV immediately renders her at the 10+ place.

Carolina Kostner is not Russian and she also has perfect skating technique (Did she retire?):

...Unlike most Russian girls whose technique is very faaar from perfect...
Are you seriously talking about Caro to an italian ?

The question was: you can't really put Russia out of the European Championship when there is a lot of other european skaters that coming from Russia or train there but represent other european countries, specially ex soviet ones.
Not long ago Italy itself was represented by the former russian junior champions Ivan "Bariev" Righini

Russia is just overflowing of competitive ladies, right now. We can't blame them for that.

Yet it seems that in the eyes of many it's the crime against humanity.

Adding to the whole injury diagnosis situation in Russia: Mishin commented on Lazukin’s injury. Apparently doctors in Russia did not manage to discover his injury, and misdiagnosed him, thinking it was just a muscle strain.
Only after the season ended in Estonia(!) did doctors manage to diagnose him properly with ligament rupture.

Aliona Kostornaya has problems with getting a proper diagnosis too last year, and many other athletes too. Just to add how widespread that problem actually is.

Did Kostronaya also go to Estonia? Or this athlete with a mysterious name "Manyotherathletestoo"?

I remember Viktoria Komova was diagnosed with a broken spine bone in Munich after Doctors in Russia told her " there's nothing". But I'm sure there are also excellent doctors in Russia

Lmao, don’t take it personally. Things like this happen, nothing to do with Estonia.
Valitova also had a similar problem.

I don’t take it personally. I'm not a doctor. But if someone makes such a global statement:
Just to add how widespread that problem actually is.

he needs a stronger argument than write the names of few skaters (and btw Alyona had no problems with the diagnosis, she just didn't take the problem seriously at first) and also writing a vague "and many other athletes too". No, you have made pretty serious statement of statistical nature - "widespread that problem". So prove it seriously.

Mkay, my mistake, not a “widespread” problem, but something that can happen to athletes a little more often than people usually think it would.
