2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Stasya confirmed what I said few pages ago: Plushenko was the only who 'gave her a chance'.

Would have been better if you included the source and quoted the information:

“ I really want to work, I am very grateful to Evgeniy Plushchenko, and Aleksandr Sergeyevich Volkov, and Martin (Dazhene, a coach in the Volkov group). They and I have to do a lot of work together - especially myself - to make something work. They gave me a chance while some other people didn’t believe in me ”, Konstantinova told over the phone.

“ I’m ready to work and recover, what’s going to happen - we'll see. But I am very focussed on working and really want to live up to expectations ”.

Konstantinova noted that “ recently I went through a difficult period ”.

“ I was not in very good shape this season, and it is clear that no one wanted to take on such responsibility (to train an athlete) ”, she added.

When asked if it was too late for the skater to change her coach, Konstantinova replied: “ I can’t say that because I didn’t have any plan, I live as my heart and head tells me. When everything comes down to me needing to make changes in my life, then I'll do so. When there are no serious preconditions, I don’t think up anything and I don’t look for any reason in anyone. I never had time for special thoughts ”.

“ In the current competitive climate, motivation is not needed, it is permanently present ”, Konstantinova added. “ There are times when it’s hard, but during this forced break, I realised that I can’t do without figure skating, and I don’t want to waste time just like that, but I want to do my best. I’d like to thank Valentina Mikhailovna Chebotaryova, our choreographer Olga Yuryevna Klyushnichenko and our GP specialist Mikhail Yuryevich Semyonenko for the fact that they trained me, they worked so much with me, even when things weren't easy. I want everyone to be happy thereon ”.

She probably fell into some kind of depression and I think we must be glad she pulled herself out and found a new rink. Wether everything works out for Stanislava as intended, it's too early to tell. It's also a chance for Plyushchenko's Academy to prove that it is able to work seriously with a high profile competitive skater. So no doubt the developments will be followed closely by insiders and the media.

Volkov however:

Volkov: Konstantinova is absolutely out of shape. At the PE, she "dies"

The coach Aleksandr Volkov, under whose leadership Stanislava Konstantinova will work, assessed the condition of the athlete.

“ At the moment she is completely out of shape, but (she) really wants to work, and we, as trainers, should do everything possible, and maybe impossible, for her ”, said Volkov.

The coach emphasized that it was not necessary to change the technique of the 19-year-old athlete, it was only necessary to correct it. The goal is to bring Konstantinova to such a form in half a year that she can compete in competitions.

“ The main thing is that the athlete wants this. While I see that she really wants. We have large loads, it’s hard for her. At the PE, she “dies”, but I explained to her that this is necessary during this period ”, said Volkov. He explained that during the competitive period the loads will be reduced, and Konstantinova will no longer go on the ice this season.

So no Russian Cup Finals, no top level funding next season? Unless she is added to the 'bye list' along with Medvyedeva and Zagitova? Blocking the way for prospective skaters to advance??

Obviously, but it's very counterproductive ignoring the issue and writing a complaint because the edges got called unclear, no? [emoji6]

People constantly ignore that Rusfed sent that complaint after the GP where the edges of Alina and Alena got called and before the GP where Anna’s edges got called. That complaint was never about Anna, if I remember correctly.

I think it was right after the cup of China. Doesn't really matter though, since people can still argue that ISU crumbled under pressure
Personally, i was mad that Tuktik finished 3rd behind Miyahara. And to me, it was such an obvious bs with many uncalled URs. By the way, it proved to be extremely important. If not for that placement, Liza could be at the GPF instead of Bradie

Can we please just stop with the 'any criticism is a personal attack against a skater?' It's getting annoying. Also the conversation was about Anna, not another skater. The conversation would've been true too if we talkes about Lizas flip edges or literally any other skater. If the conversation is about one skater it seems weird to me that we must includw other skaters 'but what about .....'s edges?' Yeah we can discuss that too but we're talking about someone else right now

I am talking about Anna, naturally. Her five ! at the Cup of China were ridiculous, that's why I say that it is a problem when "the number of unclear calls vastly exceeds the true number of unclear edges". What was written about her here within the last several days were mere personal attacks, it had nothing to do with the nonpersonal interest in the edge calls.

Repeatedly such discussions were started with direct aiming at some skaters, while others were completely unnoticed by those who started them. Like at IdF, where the question of Alina's and Aliona's edges was asked, but when it was posted that Mariah Bell had obvious wrong edge that wasn't called, it was dismissed like out of the topic. Then, even the voices came, that "harsh judging is fine, even if some skaters are judged more harshly than others."

If there has to be a discussion about unclear edges and their calling, than such conversation has to include all skaters (at least from the same competition) that are related to it, not just those you don't like. Otherwise such conversation has no other meaning but venting personal bias.

Alina Gorbachyova will compete today

Lets see if her outstanding premiere in Junior Russian Nationals wasn't a fluke: http://skatingvision.ru/events/1920/aleksin0220/CAT002EN.HTM ,

live stream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RWNnTgNLZI , with the short program.

Alina has starting number 23, so in about 3 hours. Let's cheer for her, and for all the other skaters putting their best skating to the ice.

Edited: Alina leads with 37.53 TES + 25.98 PCS = 63.51. (3S+3T, 2A, CCoSp4, 3Lo, FSSp4, StSq3, LSp4)

There was a judging delay right before her start, and Alina milled about on the ice like a horse scratching the pavement with its hooves, but kept her calm. Well done, pocket dynamo ;-)

I completely agree about the Liza vs Bradie situation. People complain so much about the judges favouring the Russians, but close their eyes when Bradie is promoted at the expense of Liza.

Regarding the complaint, yes, it became public after the Cup of China, but someone from Rusfed explained that it was written and submitted before that in response to Alina and Alena's calls.

How did Stasya it's so out of shape so fast since she looke like she was in good shape at Russian Nationals in late December? She just skated badly in that event but I don't think it was because she was out-of-shape.

Stasya is truly a class act on and off the ice.

Question: you know the YouTube channel Team Tutberidze News? Recently they posted an interview of the 4A in Tatler magazine. Is it true that the girls train for 12 hours a day???

It is not uncommon for the skaters to spend 12 hours at the rink, with a rest or homework break in between training sessions that typically last from 2-3 hours.

Moscow is a very large city and if you live far from the rink, the travelling time can easily reach 2 hours one way.

They typically have 2 hours on ice + 2 hours off ice in the first half of the day, and then the same thing in the second half of the day. So all in all 8 hours of training.

What Alina said was more about availability of ice, from what I understood. She can access the rink/training facility for 12 hours.

They have said that they train on ice for 3-4 hours and off ice for the same amount of time, so overall 6-8 hours. Maybe with all commuting and breaks between sessions it could add up to more, but I haven't heard of any other skater who would train for so long.

Just to add that "Martin (Dazhene, a coach in the Volkov group)" is Martine Dagenais ("Martin Dazhene" is what Google translate makes of her name, for whatever reason.)

Does that mean that Nastya T. has recovered?

Most likely. We'll see. Firstly, in what division will Anastasiya compete? Still in juniors or already in seniors? IIRC, she qualified in senior Masters.

That's why they had to undermine Lisa in China. bradie was the only American skater that had to make it to the gpf.
