2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Alina Gorbachyova who did so well in the Junior National Championships last week again competed excellently in her stage of the Winter Spartakiad, scoring 188.81 overall.

She scored 125.30 in her almost faultless free program, the best score in the competition: https://youtu.be/pwgu-O01z4w?t=18141
3F, 2A+3T, 3Lz, 3Lo, FCCoSp4, StSq3, 3Lo+1Eu+3S, 3Lz+2T, 2A, CCoSp4, LSp4

She was 1st in the short program as well, with 63.51: https://youtu.be/0RWNnTgNLZI?t=15096

She made good use of her dramatic “Angels and Demons” soundtrack, but seemed to skate a little more cautious compared to last week, where she went all out in speed and jumps.

Perhaps she will compete in the Russian Cup Finals next week?

I believe there is no Spartakiad Finals as such, but Alina’s addition to the Tver Region tally will be much appreciated.

Protocols are here: http://skatingvision.ru/events/1920/aleksin0220/index.htm.

Dar’ya Loboda also laid down excellent routines and a strong competition for 2nd place.

Thank you for the link! She is wonderful, and I hope she is on the JGP next year. Huge axel, she ought to be able to get a 3A by next year.

She really flies in her 2A-3T combo, doesn't she? Her other jumps need a little more exit speed, but she holds the exit nicely to prove her command. Getting decent GOE's, +3 on average.

LOL, and did she tease the cameraman in the SP skating past at 4:16:07, gesturing and even saying something?

Like with Adeliya Petrosyan I like the quirky, unpredictable step sequences, that look wild but are fully controlled.

One can be reasonably certain, the race after triksels and quads is on with every young skater that has the technique, power, guts and perseverance.

According to the linked article, Alina secured herself a start in the Spartakiad Final. Alina was born in the Krasnodar region, moved to Tver a couple years ago and now has moved together with her trainer Sof'ya Fedchenko to the Triumf Academy, part of southarena.ru sports complex.

It's OK :-)

Strange that a person competing in the highest level of the most difficult coordination sport can be so clumsy in real life. So the identical twins are quickly growing apart now.

I got a bit lost here because when I looked up the names these are Rhythmic gymnasts right or did they switch to skating?

You are not to blame. We went of bit off topic here ;-)

The Averina twins said they would likely have been figure skaters haven't they started in rhythmic gymnastics. RG is a highly prestigious sport in Russia, popular with middle class parents too. Nice leotards/dresses/costumes that make your girl look pretty and special.

Do you honestly believe that pointing out aspects of someone's skating the way you just did equates to how this poster talks about Anna Shcherbakova including derailing other threads by comparing skaters favorably to the injustice that is her technique (implying ill will and intentional cheating), making new threads for the sole purpose of discrediting Anna's quad achievements and constantly making derogatory comments in this thread? I find the two to be quite different.
Where and when I made such threads? Show me!

About this whole technique criticism, I’d like to say my point of view.

Evgenia Medvedeva is my favorite figure skater. I don’t think she’s the best technically, I still see some flaws in her technique, such as the lutz edge, the predominance of two-feet skating, the muscled combos and the spins. However, Zhenya is somehow the skater that moves me emotionally the most. Am I offending her by recognizing she’s not a perfect skater and has to work on some things? Absolutely not, I totally admire her, I’m probably one of her biggest fans and enthusiasts.

Anna Shcherbakova is a lovely girl, she sells her programs like no other, she emotes very well, and I really like her. She seems like the most polite/polished among the 3A, and I think she’s amazing for what she’s accomplished at such a young age. However, Anna still has to work on her skating skills, on pointing her foot, her lutz edge is INSIDE, and selectively ignoring mistakes from the ones you like is so common in this forum that it makes discussions unbearable. I’m talking about her toe pick moment, I have printed the screens of her videos in the very moment her toe pick reaches the ice. She has a change of edge, it’s undeniable, such as my favorite skater ever, Evgenia Medvedeva. Am I hating on them? Absolutely not, I am talking about objective scoring criteria, and they both deserve “e” calls on their lutzes.

Alina Zagitova, as I’ve been trying to point out for a long time in this thread, also has had lutz problema since before the olympics, she flutzed at 2018 Europeans, before puberty and her not so consistent era. Alina’s fans keep saying her edge is absolutely ok.

Alyona Kostornaya has a fluctuating edge in her lutz. Sometimes it’s outside, sometimes it’s flat, sometimes it’s slightly inside (more rarely). Guess what, Alyona is my favorite 3A, am I hating on her?

People should stop selectively analyzing their favorite’s techniques. Your favourites are not robots, they’re human, they make mistakes, and they may not be the best in an objective criterium, but they are the best in your hearts, a subjective criterium, and that’s what matters. You don’t have to try to convince everybody around you to like your favorite skater, everyone will have their favorite, and that’s the beauty of the world.
That's also how I feel about this topic

Yet another try to promote a false narrative about 4A's technique under the guise of friendly crtiticism. Nothing new here.

Do we now yet who will be at the Russian Cup Final?

I hope that all the Rukavicin girls will be there - Gubanova, Nugumanova and Talalaykina!!

Sorry I think people sometimes forget that this is the 4A fanfest and there isn't any criticism allowed, or any speech that isn't yes and amen about their skating. Some people just really don't get what the russian lady thread is about smh.

Could you please include the amount of PreRotation each skater averages per jump and how deep their Lutz edge is :laugh2:

Anna has a flat/unclear edge on her Lutz. Sometimes it looks a bit outside (could be called "!" anyway). To say that she DEFINITELY has inside edge and place her next to Medo in that regard is a bit strange

I rewatched her sp and fs, i see no flutz, not even unclear edge. Can you show the video/gif ?

I do not understand. Do you offer voluntary certification of jumps for skaters? How is this done for food? The content of fats, proteins, and so on?;)

Yes, but some of those are juniors. I was thinking about Seniors. I think Edwin mentioned that there will only be 10 ladies in the senior event?
I am also hoping to see Tsibinova and Shulskaya again, and Sinitsyna, and Guliakova, and Vasilieva - I pretty much want to see all from nationals!

That's all we have from news agency.
