DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!

It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read…Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out! This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like >>to go out to eat. (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757, if you haven't, add 1756.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.

If your finished scroll down.

The first digit of this was your original number. (I.e., How many >>times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE ! ------ (Oh YES, it is!!!)

Here is why it works:

Let "x" by the number you choose. Assume that you have already had your birthday this year

- First, we take the chosen number, x
- Then we double it, getting 2x
- Then, we add 5, getting 2x+5
- Multiplying this by 50 makes it (2x+5)*50; simplify this and get 100x+250
- Add 1757, making it 100x+250+1757, or 100x + 2007. Of course, 2007 is the year we're in right now!
- So, subtracting your year-of-birth makes it 100x + (2007 - YearOfBirth), or 100x + age. Assuming that you're under 100, it should work!
- For the case when you have NOT had your birthday yet, we only add 1756 decreases the whole calculation by one.
:)
Mathman, do I get a passing grade?

I knew it was something simple like that, just didn't want to figure it out early this morning :(

OK, here's a fun one most chemists can't get.

You work in a chemical plant. You have a big tank filled with a mixture of isopropanol and water. You do a chemical analysis and find that the mixture contains 70.0 % by weight isopropanol and 30.0 % water. The only problem is, you don't know how much mixture is in the tank.

So you add 150 lb of pure water, mix it up, and do another analysis. The composition is now 62.7 % isopropanol and 37.3 % water. How much mixture is now in the tank? ;)
