It was more getting there because I love everyone & that I had been to Tallinn once before. But yes, seeing the skaters get so much love on the social media was helpful. It helps with tedious chore of trying to get refunds in the giant snowballing demand for travel refunds.

Just pissed we don't get to see the biggest 3A showdown...definitely not as pissed as Eteri though. She was this close to sweeping the entire season.

Technically speaking they still swept the season since there is no Worlds this year (as of right now)

I have a secondary policy to back up my medicare. but you make a good point. All our Spokane news is covering is how sad Gonzaga fans are.....awwwwwhhhhhhh.
The real story should be , " What are all those 457 postitive (minus the 31 dead) Washingtonites paying? They are either sent home to quarentine or put up in quarentine or in the hospital. We need more lawyers to sue everybody for damages.

If you think that the cancellation of Worlds was done too late, wait until you hear what happened with the opening round of Formula 1.
As I brought up in the other thread a few days ago, the organisers of the Australian GP were pressing on with holding the race without restrictions, despite practically every other motorsports series either introducing restrictions or cancelling races.
In an interview on Wednesday, reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton said bluntly that they shouldn't be there.
Then, yesterday morning, I read that a member of the McLaren team and 2 members of the Haas team were in isolation after being tested for coronavirus. By dinner time, it had been announced that McLaren were pulling out of the race. After tea-time, I read that there were now 8 people in isolation - 1 from McLaren, 4 from Haas, 2 contract workers, and 1 person not connected to the teams. The McLaren team member's test had come back positive, but the others hadn't.
By the time I went to bed, the BBC and Sky were reporting that the race had been cancelled, but there was no official announcement. However, Sky had already removed all the LIVE programming from their schedules. This was THREE HOURS before Free Practice 1 was due to start. And when I got up this morning, I found that half an hour after I went to bed, it had been announced that there would be no spectators (2 ½ hours before FP1). And that half an hour after that the cancellation announcement was finally been made. So TWO HOURS before action was due to start.

The way this played out was a total mess. It looks like the organisers were hell bent on having the race go ahead as originally planned, and were trying anything and everything to prevent it being cancelled.
So, if any of you think that the cancellation of Worlds was chaotic and last minute, it was handled perfectly well compared to this!
And if you are still of the belief that holding Worlds could still have been possible, perhaps without spectators, then the spread of coronavirus arround the paddock at a time when spectators wouldn't even have been on site yet just proves why it couldn't.
Oh, and by the way, I have just found out that the other thing I was planning to watch this weekend, the Coupe de Printemps, has also been cancelled since I went to bed last night.
I just hope that the reason is not the same - i.e. somebody at the rink having the virus.
And on that note, I would like to finish by wishing all the best to the McLaren team member that has the virus, and to the other people that are currently in isolation in Melbourne.

I'm sure they could. I'm also sure people like Nathan Chen en Shoma Uno would not be happy campers... :sarcasm:
Worlds being cancelled/postponed was sad news, but very understandable. I just hope they are not going to have WC at October, way too early in the season to have fair results. In no Olympic years the WC is the most important competition and it should end the season and not to start it. Way better to forget the whole event in this year and enjoy the skating in next year...

Oh, don't worry, CaroLiza_fan. The NRL (rugby league) attempted to rival F1 for messiest decisionmaking. The season started with a game last night, fine. Two more to be played Friday night...and after the GP was cancelled suddenly the NRL was thrown into indecision. I heard dozens of different stories during the day - that the season would be suspended immediately, that the round was cancelled, that the round would go on behind closed doors...
Eventually, it was announced that the round would continue as normal, with spectators. Our idiot Prime Minister announced a ban on gatherings over 500 people...to take effect on Monday, because we all know the coronavirus will take the weekend off.

And he blithely announced at that very same press conference that he was planning to go to the footy on Saturday as usual...only to back down from that only a few hours later, thankfully. Maybe somebody whispered in his ear that the Leader of the Opposition had already cancelled going to the same match.
And of course, the Home Affairs minister has just been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is in isolation, and may well have infected an international contingent of colleagues at a Five Eyes meeting in the US recently...but his local colleagues don't need to be tested, oh no. Apologies if this has been answered earlier in the thread, but if there's to be no World Championships this season, how will next year's allotted places be decided (e.g. two places for a country in ice dance next year if that country's ice dance team places in the top ten this year)?

It's not just sport where things are being made a mess of. The overall situation in the British Isles is such a mess.
Ireland had it's first death from the coronavirus on Wednesday. This was in the South, and yesterday it was announced that the country would go into lockdown. The British government also made an announcement of new measures yesterday, but they are relatively minor in comparison.
The government in Northern Ireland faced a dilemma over what to do. Do the same as the rest of the country you are part of, or do the same as the rest of the island you are part of. And in the end, they decided on the former.
The result is that ¾ of the island of Ireland is in lockdown. But in the remaining ¼ (where I live), it is pretty much business as usual.
It's madness when you think of it like that. Because us just carrying on as normal is going to work against the efforts to contain the spread of the virus that are being taken Down South.
Up here, there is so much confusion regarding what is going on. And the situation with sports is the perfect example to illustrate this. Those sports that are organised on an all-island basis have stopped. With the sports that are organised locally, some are continuing, and others aren't. Even within sports there is so much variation in what is happening.
I have to be honest, I was shocked that when the Americans banned flights from Europe, it only applied to flights from the Schengen area, which does not include the UK and Ireland. Because, apart from seeing how these islands are being affected through living in them, I have been keeping an eye on what has been going on in Cyprus (also not in the Schengen area), and a lot of the cases in the Southern part of the island have involved people who have just returned from the UK.
Earlier in the week, Southern Cyprus announced that people travelling from certain affected countries would have to go into quarantine for 14 days, and certain other affected countries would have to go into self-isolation for 14 days. But when the people in the tourism industry saw that the self-isolation list included the UK and Greece, they rared up. And the UK and most of Greece were promptly taken off the list. However, after the pandemic was declared, the quickly UK was put back on.
Meanwhile, Northern Cyprus has gone further and has actually banned entry to people from 22 countries... including the UK and Greece.
It is obvious that the inadequate action is all about money. People travelling from the UK are an important part of the economy in both America and Cyprus. And we have been discussing on here how much of a money spinner the F1 race is for Melbourne, and it was obvious that this was why the organisers were so desperate for it to go ahead the way it was originally planned. Same with the ISU and the World Championships. And I would not be surprised if the reason that the British government has not gone all out yet is so that this week's horse racing festival at Cheltenham can get finished.
I just wish that strong action would be taken across the world so that the whole thing can be properly dealt with. Because this humming and hawing is just letting the situation get worse.

Sure, I can see how teams are much safer in terms of gathering during the pandemic fears than singles.

I did not really think they would give any titles based on EC and 4CC, I just thought it would be a solution for next years spots?
Synchro WC is not postponed, but travelling to USA is forbidden from Schengen, so does it mean they will compete without Finnish teams and other teams from Schengen area? They want to arrange the competition without very considerable medal candidates?
